Mimie, what can I say? - my dh runs amok with online shopping - no it's not worth £50 for a bit of froth - althought it does make a very smooth froth on my cappuccino - and dh will make them for me because he loves playing with gadgets

and I have nowhere to keep it - I need a bigger kitchen

we have one and it is the best thing ever. But, just go for the basic one (£100 in john lewis) without the milk steamer and do the milk separately in a jug in a microwave. It takes too long with the steamer, even the more expensive ones!! (my parents have a £1000 built in miele coffee machine and find it better to do the milk in the microwave too...)
The pods are expensive, but not if you compare it to going to starbucks . The main problem i have with it is when friends come over they always have 2 or 3 or 4 cups each and i spend all day making coffee! (not a bad complaint to have i guess...)

hi sophable, I just have the bog standard non automatic one from john lewis, voila

A friend has a Magimix Nespresso machine; great coffee. We have a Jura Impressa bean-to-cup machine (also on Pupuce's link) which is great too. It also uses ready ground coffee if you prefer, but adding your own beans obviously means you're free to buy whatever type you like.

We have a Magimix M200 but ours is old. I'm after the automatic version with the gadget that sucks up the cold milk, turns it into froth and dispenses it into the cup (god, I'm lazy!). Intrigued by the aerocino though and I do love a nice latte.....

My ILs have the same one as PPH and are very pleased with it too.

Bagpuss, the one you are after is the £700 one I mentioned... It's by Porsche Design and looks gorgeous but a bit overpriced for what is basically a coffee maker....

puddle · 16/11/2006 16:30

My friend has one and the coffee is lovely but....

It's nestle
The packaging - ludicrous when we're trying in all other areas to be less wasteful.

So we're not getting one sadly.

Bagpuss30 · 16/11/2006 18:42

mimie not that one, just the updated version of the one I've got . The milk thing is an add on with some machines for £35 but some of the Magimix already come with it I think. I was a bit confused by the sales guy in Selfridges when we last looked but may go back and have a proper look in the new year preferably when the proper Nespresso person is there.

'Tis a shame about all the packaging I agree puddle.

Mimie2403 · 16/11/2006 20:23

Oh you're right, the little attachment fits on all concept machine. Unfortunately the M300 is not one of them...
Oh well, still my favorite kitchen gadget. Also agree about packaging. I collect the capsules all week and then take the coffee out for our compost heap. Have cleaned the capsules before as well and given it to someone who teaches pre-school. She's made mobiles from them with the kids!

Mimie2403 · 16/11/2006 20:24

And I mean Baby Mobiles not the phone kind
