Double Buggy Help!

bubbaloo · 14/11/2006 10:05

I will need to get a double buggy once the baby arrives and really havent a clue what to get,so would appreciate some recommendations please.
Ds will be 22 months and will probably still need a buggy for a while as he has problems with his feet, and obviously I'll also have a newborn.
I think I would prefer a side by side buggy, rather than a tandem, and it need to folds fairly small to fit into the boot of my Fiesta.
I thought I had made my mind up and was going to get a Maclaren twin traveller, but I've since been told it won't fit in my car,due to the design of the handles.
Any advice would be much appreciated please.
TIA

HI there
I have a friend who has the mountain buggy double...side by side, they are fantastic
(I have the single version) and the handle is adjustable so could work for you....
Can highly recommend them.
Good luck.

bubbaloo · 14/11/2006 10:24

Thanks.

Are they as big as they look though? I've just Googled them and they look huge!

Who told you the maclaren wouldn't fit? - seems a bit unlikely to me

Emskilou · 14/11/2006 10:39

Ive got the maclaren twin and I had to ram it in the boot of a vauxhall zafira, the handles do stick out a lot but you could put it on an angle to make it fit and possibly take out you parcel shelf. Hope this helps

Emskilou · 14/11/2006 10:44

You could try this one?

bubbaloo · 14/11/2006 15:57

Thanks Emskilou-that buggy actually seems rather nice.
Wow,I thought Zafira's had big boots-at least I'll know my friend was talking sense when she said it wouldn't fir in her Fiesta.I suppose I could take the parcel shelf out as a last resort, but not very practical from a safety point of view. Why do things like buggies have to be so complicated.

I quite like the Cosatto duet lite. It's a tandem but has umbrella fold and isn't that much bulkier than our maclaren techno xt when folded. (We've a Fiesta too.) Just waiting to find a bargain...

Kelly1978 · 14/11/2006 16:10

I had the we2 combi, it was not very good. Because of the duo folding mechanism it is rickety and I actually managed to snap bits off it because it is mostly made of cheap plastic - to make it lightweight.

the cossatto duet lite is nice, and very easy to push but I didn't really like how small the seats were.

We actually managed to get a jane powertwin in our fiesta, they are a nice sturdy double.

Helloooo bubbs! Can't imagine what made me click on this thread I'll be stealing all the advice on it, hope that's ok

sweetkitty · 14/11/2006 16:29

I have a M&P Twin Aria that fits in the boot of my Clio but the quality isn't too great, I feel the seats are really squashed and the cosy toes don't fit properly.

I also was given a Graco Tandem thing and it fits in the Clio boot as well, it's not that bad actually and I'm using it more and more.

If I had the money I would buy a Cosatto Duet Lite.

curve · 14/11/2006 17:53

We got a Cosatto Duo Traveller - for DS1 who is 16 months and DS2 who is 1 month - mainly because it will acutally fit into our Fiesta's boot - but this is a tandem buggy not a twin. I think the only twin that will fit in a Fiesta boot is the Combi We2. I did a lot of research - there aren't that many double buggies that will acutally fit a Fiesta's boot - the umbrella ones are too long when folded. The only other ones I considered were Phil and Ted's and the Jane Powertwin but both were beyond our budget.

curve · 14/11/2006 17:56

Forgot that that the Cosatto astro and their other twin buggy also fit into a Fiesta boot as well - but I decided against these after a particular bad day round the shops with DS1's lovely narrow single buggy and thought I couldn't face manoeuvering a double round narrow aisles.

bubbaloo · 14/11/2006 19:04

Thanks everyone-now I'm even more confused...it doesn't take much.

For those of you with a tandem, would you recommend them? I just don't know if I like the idea of one of the lo's being at the back and not seeing what's going on.Also, are they really heavy to push, when "fully loaded" with two?
I just find this whole buggy business a nightmare.Ds is only 17 months and we're already on our 3rd buggy,so don't want to make any mistake,as such..this time.

2happy-Don't mind in the slightest.Hope you're not as confused as me.

I have a 21 month gap and dec ided to buy a Jane powertwin 0 it's been great so far. I used a sling for the first month with toddler in single buggy ( have 5 year oald I have to get to school eacy day so needed a buggy!)
it fold up quite compactly, more so if the hoods and wheels are taken off ( v easy no faffing about) and I like that afact that I don't have to take it down to fit through our front door - it's a 3 wheeler one in front of the other , with baby ihn the back
hth

bubbaloo · 14/11/2006 20:27

Thanks Hana.
I did look at the Powertwin and liked the fact that you can attach the baby carrier which I thought was a bonus(save waking the baby),but it does seem rather bulky.

BuffysMum · 14/11/2006 20:30

Hi the phil & teds E3 folds up very very compactly and at least you can use it as a single puschair so can go down to one buggy! Think they can also be used a travel system?

bubbaloo · 14/11/2006 20:36

I like the look of the Phil and Teds and the fact that's it's small, but the baby seems to be very low down in the back which I'm not keen on.Also,I don't think it's a lie flat seat, although I may be wrong.
Might be easier to just buy a bigger car or swap cars with Dh-he's got a Picasso with a nice big boot.

OP posts:
curve · 14/11/2006 23:17

To confuse you some more: I've found the tandem buggy fine to push around and the baby looks very cosy and ds1 likes being up front. The back seat is raised above the front seat so ds2 will be able to see what's going on when he's bigger. But it is v heavy when folded up to lug around. We have been using the single buggy / baby bjorn combo a bit as well & for v short distances ds1 is happy to walk.

Personally I'd go for the Jane Powertwin if you can afford it (it's that bit lighter in weight and more stylish than mine). However, I don't think there's a perfect solution; all doubles / tandems seem to have a flaw of some kind!

bubbaloo · 15/11/2006 10:06

Think I may go and have a look at the Power Twin, although it is quite a bit over budget, but I do like the fact I can use a baby carrier with it.
Hana-Are the wheels really that easy to get on and off?

Flumpytina · 15/11/2006 20:31

Hi bubbaloo, have to give you my tuppence worth although if you are sick to death of thinking about this then I'm all for 'we need to buy a bigger car option'! I have the Phil & Teds which I bought off ebay so didn't need to sell a childs kidney to pay for it. It has been the most brill double buggy ever, have nothing but praise for it's superdooper slimness and manouverability. I take the kids on the bus once a week and never get an evil from the bus driver for taking up his aisle AND it fits in the boot of a ford Ka (you do have to pop the wheels off but that takes oooh 10secs). I have had so many Mums tell me 'I wish I had bought a Phil & Teds .....my (whatever) is so big and horrible to push etc). Anyway thats enough evangelising from me and I haven't even got one to sell!!!
