Am I going to regret buying that huge sizzling kitchen from ELC?

It looks enormous in the catalogue.

Anyone have enormous heaps of plastic in their playrooms that annoy or does the enjoyment factor outweigh it?

I got a Little Tykes one second hand - it's huge, but it means that they haven't outgrown it yet IYSWIM (even 7 year old ds plays with it but sshhh, don't tell his mates ). It's been the best toy we've had, by far.

WelshBorisKarloff · 11/10/2006 10:43

No you wont regret it

Its not THAT big, and yes the enjoyment factor does outweigh it

Make sure you get the free accessory set with it

oliveoil · 11/10/2006 10:49

yes, its great. dd had it when 11m (yes i know, abit early, but she love it) really a worth every penny

nailpolish · 11/10/2006 16:24

@ playroom

NOMurDErousPLUME · 11/10/2006 16:27

Is it the one that talks ?

If it is, we got that for DD for her 3rd birthday, it isn't too big at all.

Bozza · 11/10/2006 16:38

No you won't regret it olive. DD likes hers and DS (5) does too. It is in DD's bedroom - what is all this playroom thing? - and they cook on a Saturday morning and bring us bizarre breakfasts while we lay in bed.

But beware, the bowl from the sink is removable. We lost DS's new knight on Boxing Day. I bought him a replacement at Easter and lo where should we immediately find it but in the void under the sink.

NOMurDErousPLUME · 11/10/2006 16:41

Oh, it isn't the one we have then... Ours speaks Spanish, French and English and has a purple worktop.

NOMurDErousPLUME · 11/10/2006 16:46

Ah, DD has the MagiCook kitchen.

sweetkitty · 11/10/2006 17:10

Was thinking of this for DD1's Christmas but £60 seemed a bit excessive, she got a little kitchen from sis-in-law last year but it was really badly put together i.e. the oven never shut properly and the top always came off so I ended up binning it. There's one in Tesco's for £25 was thinking though it might be a bit naff too.

Was thinking the ELC one might be better quality but trying to presuade DP over the price. DD1 will be 2 1/2 at Xmas, DD2 nearly a year so they will both be playing with it?

nailpolish · 11/10/2006 17:17

sweetkit, i have 2 dd's aged 2 and 4, i was considering buying it for them to share, like you

dh says "it might encourage them to share"

he has high hopes

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 11/10/2006 17:23

My dd(2.8) who only has a vague grasp of the concept of Christmas has decided that this is what she wants Someone did mention that the Ikea play kitchen was very good though, anyone know anything about it?

sweetkitty · 11/10/2006 17:34

I think what I was saying is that I would pay the money for it if it was really robust and they will both get a lot of use out of it.

quokka · 11/10/2006 17:50

I was going to buy that one then couldn't bear to part with that much money so got a great one from argos for £30. It makes all kinds of cooking noises and has a sink, and accessories. Also got it for my ds (who loves cooking) and this one doesn't look too girlie.

BouncyTigger · 11/10/2006 18:27

Quokka, is it the electronic smart kitchen from argos you've got? We're looking at that one for DD but were wondering how sturdy it is cos we can see it made up before we buy it.

Had to laugh at this as I too have just bought it (for xmas for DD) and it's sitting in my porch still in box/packaging as it's huge! (the box that is - am really hoping the actual thing isn't as big!). I think the sad reality is, as LOs get older, their toys get bigger....

We are going to my Mums for Xmas so I am going to get her to take it away next time she comes (we live a long way from her). God knows how we'll get it back with us after Xmas (we have an estate car and still have to squeeze everything in and that's without the presents!!).

rubyroo · 11/10/2006 19:16

we've got it too and its great! dd now 2.6 but has had it since 20months still loves playing with it as do we!!! btw we got ours 2nd hand out of local paper and it only cost £25 might be worth considering? came with loads of extra stuff

quokka · 11/10/2006 19:24

bounceytigger, thats the one. It's sturdy enough, ds1 hasn't knocked it over and ds2 can crawl up to it and open and close the oven door over and over again. I didn't want to spend alot because I thought it would get relegated to the garden after a while. The only thing is the shelve and hood aren't that sturdy but hardly worth worrying about. I thought it was a bargain for £30

peegeeweegeeWITCH · 11/10/2006 20:00

We gave the ELC sizzle kitchen (and free accessory set) last year to dd for her 3rd birthday. (I actually bought it in the January sale the month after her 2nd birthday and kept it hidden for 11 months, not easy as it is such a huge box )

She absolutely loves it. She brings us bizarre meals she has thought up, and insists we pretend to eat them!! It is really really sturdy, and with all the accessories it gives huge play value!

My dd is going to have hers in her room for another year, and then it will have to go in the garden (for all those mud pies) to free up some space in her bedroom...

divamummy · 11/10/2006 21:30

check toysrus, they got some lovely offers here

CrocodileKate · 11/10/2006 21:33

We have the elc one and it is, i think, 4 years old now and still played with.
I second Bozza though, if anything goes missing check under the sink and the hob.

2nervesleft · 11/10/2006 21:40

We have had ours for nearly 3 years and both DD and DS love it. Looks a little worse for wear now but neither will agree to part with it. The oven is a convenient hiding place when the playroom needs a quick tidy. The 'boiling' noise can be tempremental and used to go off without anyone nearby until 'the sound ran out'. I know... I'm not proud.
