Am I going to regret buying that huge sizzling kitchen from ELC?

It looks enormous in the catalogue.

Anyone have enormous heaps of plastic in their playrooms that annoy or does the enjoyment factor outweigh it?

I was just going to ask a question about these kitchen jobbys.

We're getting the girls a wooden playhouse for birthdays/Xmas and want to get a kitchen set to go in it. I was going to say, for outside are the wooden ones better than the plastic ones.

I know I prefer the wooden ones but would the girls?

What do ya reckon?

By the way the plastic pizza and cutter is a must.

We ar4e getting this one between
DS 3 and DD who will be 1 for xmas..cant wait..saddo that I am..onlt thing is it will probably have to live in the dining room which means look at it all the time!!!

wheelybug · 11/10/2006 21:46

here

Thombat - We too are looking for one to go in an outside playhouse but I thought plastic would be better for outside - less rotting potential ? (despite wooden being far nicer).

Toothyboy · 11/10/2006 21:46

Ds1 has the elc one - the kitchen itself is no problem; it's the enormous box of plastic food that my mum bought him to go with it!

And yes - the oven is his current storage place for the entire set of Thomas books! It also requires regular checks for real food, being "cooked" for weeks at a time!!

Woolies is where my DD's one comes from. She'll be getting it for her 2nd birthday next week - I can't wait to play with it. Thanks for the tip about storing books in the oven!

nailpolish · 12/10/2006 08:23

TC i would say plastic - you can hose it down to get rid of the spiders webs, whereas i would be hesitant to do that with a wooden one repeatedly

ALTHOUGH the wooden ones ARE nicer...

Tis a fab kitchen.
One thing I will say though is assemble it well before xmas.
DD got hers for her birthday last year when she was 2 and I set it up the night before. When I did it I noticed that the main middle section of it had been put together incorrectly so the buttons for the oven and dishwasher are on the wrong side.
I never bothered about it then as she was only 2 but I have heard the odd comment of "mummy, these buttons are all wrong"!

Just a tip.
We've had it in every room in the house and its not all that big.

Have had this for almost a year. We got the accessory kit with it for free. Gets played with continuously and ds's mates love it too. It is big, but I haven't regretted getting it. (Ds is now 3.)

Bozza · 12/10/2006 08:44

What we did was check all the pieces were there shortly after it arrived. Then put the smaller box in the loft and the huge one that wouldn't go through the hatch in the garage and then assembled it Christmas Eve.

Issymum · 12/10/2006 09:24

We got this one about 3 or 4 years ago. It's seen a lot of action. The oven door fell off this year, it ceased to 'sizzle' a while back and is now standing rather sadly in the garden but was used a lot by DD2 (just 4yo) over the summer and is often used by other children on playdates. I think it's been worth it.

Can I just say, so glad to see this thread as before ds arrived I worked for the company that makes the sizzling kitchen for ELC. When we originally did it for them about 4 or 5 years ago it was really hard work to get everything right for the buyers and for their quality department and I was thoroughly sick of it by the time it got in the stores! So it's really nice to see that you guys are saying nice stuff about it and to know that all that work was worth it.

By the way Issymum if you want a new oven door and sizzling bit, Angela in customer services might be able to help you on 01275 376160 (she is lovely!). And ggglimpopo if you need to get it to France, it is actually made in France so you might be able to get it there (it's made by Berchet). And finally yes plaese do assemble it well before Christmas as if you have parts missing it can take a couple of weeks...

oliveoil · 12/10/2006 10:42

Ooooh, I forgot all about this thread, I ordered my kitchen yesterday and it will be delivered to dh's company so he can hide it till Christmas.

Got 20% off (thank you Bozza) by typing BABY in at the end.

I had a clear out of toys this week to make space, anything not played with or babyish has been removed and mean mummy will be prowling round over the next few evenings shoving things away that annoy me.

Wow! You have got to love Mnet!

Twohootsandapumpkin · 12/10/2006 13:09

I too was going to mention about the BABY code as I posted about this question (i.e. which kitchen to choose last week). Well worth it with 20% off!

sweetkitty · 12/10/2006 21:17

So you get 20% off and the free accessory set?

Where do I type BABY is there a box for discount codes at the end?

Also where can I hide it til Santa comes?

Will presuade DP that it's good value for money for both DDs to play with for years to come.

Had a lovely Mummy moment DD1 is 2.3y and just starting imagination playing (?) anyway I had to sit in her room for 1 1/2hours and have some tea and cake (the cake being a megablock) her cooker was a box in her wardrobe, the "cake" had to go in there for 2 minutes Mummy then it was nice and ready, bless her! Need to get her a kitchen for Christmas!
