ViSpring without a doubt. expensive and very heavy to turn, but your bed is an investment imo

ilovecaboose · 27/09/2006 19:10

Tempur are supposed to be very very good - but again very expensive. I'm getting one if I win the lottery

Lilymaid · 28/09/2006 20:30

Vi Spring have the best mattresses - but the beds are expensive (2K or more) - worth it for the quality of the bed and your slepp.

magicfarawaytree · 28/09/2006 21:38

all of the main bed manufacturers have top end pocket sprung mattresses. if you are going for a slatted base make sure the mattress is designed for slatted bases ( best bases are sprung slatted bases). if not invest in pegboard (stops the spring lodging between slats) if you are getting a divan you want an high spring count over 1000 (If my memory serves me correctly). You need to check the firmness of the mattress as different mattress with the same spring counts will be more firm or less firm than each other. tbe best mattresses are hand tuffted and have reinforced sides. definitely get a sprung base. most manf. do no turn mattresses so all you have to do is rotate the matters through 180 degress rather that flipping it over. look for beds in the sale and get the biggest bed that you can afford it makes such a difference.

I have got Iron Bed Company beds.
We all have a kingsize one, even the kids!
Expensive but I consider them a lifetime investment.

Have recently got a Tempur mattress as both me and dh were having major backache. It is the best thing we have ever bought. They do a 6 month interest free option you also get a 60 day tryout to see if you like it which gives you extra time to save up. They also give 30% discount if you or your partner work in the health service as they figure they will get good word of mouth advertising if you are happy with the product. Now have the problem that I don't want to sleep anywhere but home as bed is so wonderful and I dread waking up with backache!!

We adore our futon - so supportive and firm. When pregnant I was the only woman in my antenatal class who was getting any sleep, because it supported my bump so beautifully, I felt no different to normal. Don't get a cheapo one, go for a specialist futon supplier and pay for a real one. They really are marvellous.

PcCOD · 28/09/2006 22:00

there are reviews on which? for memory foam mattresses - v. expensive and not for everyone but overall excellent mattresses according to the best reviews( once the smell has gone).

misdee · 28/09/2006 22:08

we paid £600 IIRc for our bed, almost 2 years ago. i love it. its a silent night one, the mattress is so so thick. dh has hardly slept in it though

noddyholder · 28/09/2006 22:16

We have an iron bed co one with their medium to firm mattress very comfy and lovely to look at too Buy the best you can afford

berrycherry · 28/09/2006 23:29

get one of those "duvet£ type things that you put on the mattress too (sorry can't remember what they are called!) they make your bed really luxurious - I'm going to mine VERY soon!

berrycherry · 28/09/2006 23:30

Toppers - is that right?

Imafairy · 28/09/2006 23:36

Tempur mattresses are great - don't think I could live without one now. Yes they're pricey, but you do spend more time in bed than anywhere else in your house, so it's worth the investment (and one of the joys of Tempur is that DH can do his usual tossing and turniong and the only time I know about it is when he pinches the duvet
Got DS a nice fairly hard 'executive' mattress from Dreams, which only cost £99 for a single, so probably worth looking there too.
Suggest you go and try a whole lot out - lazing on beds is a nice way to spend a Saturday morning!!!

FrannyandZooey · 29/09/2006 07:45

I bet you have all experienced shitty cheap futons which are the pits. A good futon is a thing of beauty and a joy for about five years

colditz · 29/09/2006 08:25

memory foam mattress. Like sleeping on a cloud.

tissy · 29/09/2006 08:27

I've got a Tempur too, very comfy! But does anyone else find they get a bit sweaty?

colditz · 29/09/2006 08:28

Yes, I got some flannelette cotton sheets - much better!

bea · 29/09/2006 12:46

we've just recently got a superkingsize warren evans bed... fantastic!!! the mattress is a pocket sprung mattresss and it is absolutely lovely!!!!...

v. v. expensive (we're used to getting our beds in a sale at argos!) but it was my bday pressie...a nd thought this is the bed to keep forever....!!!

well worth it!!!

redsky · 29/09/2006 12:54

Memory foam mattress is fab. But now I get back problems if I spend a night in a different bed. We also got a memory foam topper for our caravan bed and that is now as good as the mattress at home - and way cheaper.
