those of you that have mentioned vi spring beds, have you got one? I am seriously considering getting one, but they are sooo pricey.

We bought a new bed last year, had the frame made by the Big Bed Co, my dh doesn't fit into standard bed sizes not even superking (he's v. tall). They came and put it together in situ. Its oak and will last forever.

Didn't like the prices of their mattresses though so found a proper old-fashioned matress maker in Yorkshire through the net, phoned them up with our specs (has to be 2 zipped together to get that size up the stairs and through doorways etc)fully sprung and stuffed with natural materials but with a layer of that tempur stuff) Cost? Ridiculously cheap, sleeps like a dream.

Polyanna - Yes we have had a Vi Spring bed for rather too many years than I'd like to admit (our elder DS is at university) and are thinking of replacing it sometime we have £2k spare. We also have Relyon mattresses for the DSs and the spare bed, which are good, though not as good as Vi Spring.
