Urgent E3 question

bluebear · 27/03/2004 13:15

Any members of the E3 fanclub available to tell me the difference between the old explorer and the new E3.
Urgent because local shop is doind 10% off, today only! Baby is going nutty so finding internet searches hard to do...help.

Do the same basic job but the E3 is I think a bit lighter and narrower. Also I think the old explorer has a separate zip on newborn section, while on the E3 it is built in. Other than that I couldn't really say.
Is the 10% offer only on the old model? Remember that you won't be able to use the extensive range of E3 accessories on it

bluebear · 27/03/2004 13:41

10% off the new one, but have also got chance of buying old one from friend (but still £275), trying to decide whether to go for new one...ds has wide shoulders but fitted the shop one okay...I'm very excited
Thanks Elliott

Buy it, buy it, buy it! (You know you want to )

kiwisbird · 27/03/2004 16:00

i traded up nd its worth it buy buy buy

bluebear · 28/03/2004 20:07

Ok -I'm getting the E3
I have been reminded by a friend that I can get 10% at the shop anytime with a discount card I forgot I had! so urgency has gone....so am now trying to work out whether it is worth ordering from kiwi dad instead of shop.

Some more questions!!!

Panniers - do these detach easily and do they have a loop to hang from a hook when they're off (am thinking of using them as bags for kid's nursery things)

Travel Bag - What is this?? Is it a bag to put the whole kaboodle in when you are travelling?? If so, is it difficult to pack the buggy into it? My E3 will have to lurk in a crowded buggy cupboard at the nursery, so if I can pack it into something to keep it safe and clean then that would be great!

Will be using it in the 2 toddler position - does this mean that there is effectively no parcel tray?

Would a normal cosytoes fit the little add-on seat (ds is tough enough to cope without but little dd needs to be more snuggled).

Come on..help me with my shopping list!!!!!

Do they do a latte cup holder for it yet

Panniers are attached with velcro strips and detach easily (although its a bit fiddly threading the velcro back again to replace them - as we found out today when we put the buggy in the boot of the car for the first time). There is a carrying hoop on the back of the pannier near the top - ideal for what you want to do with them)

Don't have a buggy bag sorry.

There is a little bit of parcel tray left (depending on how small no.2 is - at 5m there is enough for a lunchbox and some drinks in front of his feet.

We use a John Lewis cosy toes for ds in the double seat and he's snug as the proverbial bug. DD has the P&T Buggy Bag which is the best and longest I've ever seen.

HTH

BUSTERTHEDOG · 28/03/2004 22:58

it's too late now anyway, but just for the record, the old kiwi explorer was never passed to british standard, whereas the new one is. Did yiu get the new one? Mine comes tomorrow! Can't wait

bluebear · 29/03/2004 10:42

Thanks BITBBH! I've found a picture of the travel bag and it is a storage bag hurrah!

So, I neeeeeeeeeeddddd

a E3 buggy with doubles kit, double storm cover, pair of panniers, and a travel bag

Rodney hasn't replied to my mail requesting shipping fees - if he is significantly cheaper then I'll go with him otherwise the shop is only 15mins away.

Busterthedog - Are you as exicited as I am!

BearintheBigBlueHous · 29/03/2004 10:45

Oh and get a blue one

PipBeckett · 29/03/2004 10:48

What's an E3?

Bagpuss30 · 29/03/2004 11:55

Bluebear, I sencond bear there, definitely the blue one . Would also love a latte cup holder too .

PipBeckett, an E3 is a three wheeled pushchair believe it or not and has many fans on here.

Bear, read your post and for a moment thought your ds was 5 metres tall. Presumably going the same way as his 27 metre tall sister then?

PipBeckett · 29/03/2004 12:02

I've just been having a look at it on a website. It looks pretty good. But my ds2 is five now and as much as he'd love to still be in the pram, having ds2 is an excuse for him to get some exercise.

bluebear · 29/03/2004 12:05

Blue it is! (only red and black in stock in local shop so I hope kiwi dad gets back to me soon!)
PipBeckett - must be time for another baby then you've got an excuse to buy an E3

Anyone got any info on shipping costs from the US and on the amount of tax to pay when it gets here - I'm getting impatient waiting for R to reply!

OP posts:
Bagpuss30 · 29/03/2004 12:10

Bluebear, he quoted me $100 for shipping and then said there would likely be 20% tax on top of the buggy price only to be paid to customs. He may quote you differently though as he was out of stock when I enquired (meaning the buggy would have come from NZ not USA).

Gem13 · 29/03/2004 12:12

Mine was $120 for shipping, nothing for tax. Seems like pure chance whether or not customs charge you.

Noodleboo · 29/03/2004 12:15

I e-mailed Kiwidad for a quote and he came back with a quote of $600 (about £335) but then customs on top would be £50 - £60. This makes it just a little cheaper than the shop here and they offer a 2 year guarantee.

Have I got a wrong quote as everyone seems to be saying that Kiwidad is cheaper????

Gem13 · 29/03/2004 12:22

My total was around 330 incl. accessories and shipping but not tax. Local shop's basic (single) buggy is 299. So it was a good deal. Plus exchange rate was great in Jan.

Gem13 · 29/03/2004 12:23

Am feeding hence brief reply.

bluebear · 29/03/2004 12:33

Thanks everyone!
Noodleboo - before shipping and tax kiwidad's prices are 400 US dollars (double buggy and storm cover) =220 GBP
Local shop double buggy and storm cover = 379 GBP

If shipping is about 100USD (55 GBP) and tax is 17.5% (I think it is but not certain) (39 GBP) . Then kiwidad will be 314 GBP compared to local shops 379.... 65 pounds cheaper.

Am feeding squawky baby whilst typing this so if anyone sees an error please tell me!

Bagpuss30 · 29/03/2004 12:55

Just remember that if you buy abroad and then something is wrong, you will have to pay for shipping back to country of purchase. It was this reason that we decided to go with a UK stockist (that and Bear's impeccable advice ).

bluebear · 29/03/2004 13:01

Bagpuss - that's exactly why dh wants to buy from the shop up the road! and after reading about Buster's multi-colour grey E3 I'm tempted to get one I can see first!

OP posts:
kiwisbird · 29/03/2004 13:11

customs isn;t always applicable remember, I never got charged it, its often luck!

bluebear · 29/03/2004 21:15

Just had confirmation from kiwi dad - shipping is 140 USD minus a 40 USD discount (!) = 100USD.

OP posts:
bluebear · 30/03/2004 20:21

Also spoken to Customs office - import tax of 2.7% and VAT of 17.5% both apply - tax to be paid on the purchase amount+shipping+packing.

Just posting this in case there's any potential E3 owners lurking
