What should I do about my increasingly obvious facial hair?

I'm 40, and in the last year or so have found that I no longer just have the odd dark hair on upper lip/chin, but lots, so much that plucking out the odd one is a losing battle!
I would really appreciate advice about differnet options: I don't want to spend a lot of money butI think I really do need to do something about it.
I 've never really been a makeup wearer or had facials or anything and this feels scary. Also, if you remove hair from upper lip does it make the ones on the rest of your face (light hairs on cheeks) look more obvious?
Help please, I will be so grateful

Northerner, Dearie, that's lovely. Now off you go, back to the Made Up Song thread....

bossykate · 26/03/2004 16:45

Northerner · 26/03/2004 16:46

Are women who have electrolysis and waxing done with no pain relief more powerful as women than those that don't?

Blu · 26/03/2004 17:14

God, Issymum, are you OK? You may need to purchase some sunglasses with thick 70's frames to hide the damage. Or reserrect a New romantic Pirate eyepatch. Sorry, I am sure other wise Mn-ers will have more helpful advice.

I'm finally coming off lurker-status to say that this thread has given me the best laugh all week. No idea why, but I think it was the surreal quality of Northerner's contribution! Oh, and my Mum's always used Jolen cream.

carla · 26/03/2004 21:23

OK - haven't read all this but ... have a pal who swears by waxing ... Q ... doesn't that mean they all grow back at the same time? Me? I bleach, and tweeze, and have done for many years, so they're okayish now, only have to pull one or two stubborn and horrible black ones out once in a while. Q... if you use cream, doesn't that mean a horrible stubble? Had an appointment with dds nursery teacher late last year and all I could focus on was her beard ... or growth therein! And she was lovely!

carla · 26/03/2004 21:26

On the hair thread, has anyone found a grey PUBE yet????

21stcenturygirl · 26/03/2004 21:29

Talking of threads that's what I have done - threading. Tried the lot - bleaching, waxing, electrolysis but threading is the best. It only costs around a £5 from my Indian beautician. The good thing is regrowth isn't so thick and you can have it done every 2 weeks so there isn't any noticable regrowth.

21stcenturygirl · 26/03/2004 21:32

Carla - A grey pube - more like a hundreds - why is it your pubes go before your hair on your head?

carla · 26/03/2004 21:35

Not sure which is worst, 21st ....... Sinking into rapid decline on all fronts ...

21stcenturygirl · 26/03/2004 21:45

I guess I'm lucky in that my b-in-law is a hairdresser so he can cover up the grey bits on my head but down below NO! Does anyone dye theirs?

Wow, ask a question, go away for a day and come back to all this! Thanks everyone, especially Northener! Sounds like electrolysis or laser might be worth investigating. I was concerned that plucking was making them even thicker and blacker and it seems I was right, sigh.
So now maybe I could ask for any recommendations for places in central or South London??

This thread is hilarious. Nearly wet myself @wiggly woo visiting the thread and and @Issymum's eyebrow debacle (sorry, IM). I'm also intrigued that electrolysis may offer hope for my eyebrows yet...
