What can I get for a 1 year old who loves posting things?

Apart from the usual dull shape sorter type affair? Is there something unusual or special that anyone can think of, or just a beautifully made wooden toy which involves posting? A postbox with wooden letters to post would be really fab, or something like that?

Why don't you make him a letter box out of a cardboard box? You and him could paint it red and make a hole for his 'post' to go through.

MerlinsBeard · 04/09/2006 12:23

this is fun

pepsi · 04/09/2006 12:24

ELC used to do a game, I think its called Pop it in the Post that has a little postbox and you post things in it. Or, get a large cardboard box, cut a slot in it and give them old birthday cards and stuff to post through.

this is from a US site though

we also have this for our 17mo who likes to post things

cupcakes · 04/09/2006 12:30

mini post office (not wood though)

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2006 12:32

Great ideas, that is definitely the sort of thing. I like the US Montessori one the best

I should have said, it is for a birthday present and it is for this Sunday. The ideas about making one are great but I think as a present I had better buy something.

We just gave ds a regular mailbox to play with. He could put it on the table, etc.and move it around as he liked. He loved it.

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2006 12:35

Hmm. Sounds very interesting. What sort of thing do you mean, jabberwocky? Are you in the US? Can we get mailboxes here?

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 12:45

Yes, I'm in the US. I've been looking over the internet to see how much they are, but I think I'll need to check Wal-Mart tomorrow. All I'm coming up with are designer ones - too expensive!

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2006 12:45

Hmm, I am not sure if you can get those here. It is a great idea though. I will have a look.

This gives you an idea, though.

jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 12:47

If I find a reasonably priced one, I'll CAT you.

schneebly · 04/09/2006 12:48

my 19 month old loves to 'post' and he adores a little pop up toaster toy we got recently!

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2006 13:03

Jabberwocky, that is very kind of you but I need it for this Sunday I think I should have been thinking about this before now, really

Toaster is interesting idea as well, schneebly

The ELC post box is good

NomDePlume · 04/09/2006 13:04

but it isn't wood, it's gaudy plastic...

cupcakes · 04/09/2006 13:05

have been searching loads of wooden toy shops but can't find anything letterbox related.
Must think harder.

NomDePlume · 04/09/2006 13:05

18mo +

anorak · 04/09/2006 13:06

He likes posting things?

Get him a mumsnet then.

fairyfly · 04/09/2006 13:08

?

jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 13:08

Is your dh handy? You could make one by Sunday out of wood. Or you could get crafty with cardboard and paint or contact paper (bet you could find some with a wood design on it).

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2006 13:11

You are all so kind to be looking for me

ff those are fab but too pricey I think

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2006 13:12

Is dh handy?

Ahem, sorry, erm, no.

Also, this is one of my relatively normal friends. I struggle to keep that sort, you know, and I don't think giving her a home made birthday present for her dd would help matters
