What's so Great about Lakeland?

I've been to a shop, looked at their website, and still don't understand why people rave about them!
(Following on the discount codes thread...)

It's their service - they bend over backwards to help you. For example, I forgot a couple of items from an order, phoned the next day to see if I could add them but the order had already been despatched, "That's not a problem, they're not heavy, I'll pop them in the post for you now. It will have to be a separate invoice, but I won't charge you postage on it."

roisin · 21/03/2004 14:14

When you buy the products from the catalogue, you're never disappointed when they arrive. The catalogues are not misleading about size or anything, and the quality is always superb.

Great customer service too.

Tommy · 21/03/2004 14:38

All the things I've ever bought from them do exactly what they say they will. (as roisin has just said!)I've also always found them really helpful. We've just bought the 101 cookie cutters. I love looking through the catalogues and normally want to buy everything - DH doesn't let me go in the shops on my own anymore though....

wilbur · 21/03/2004 15:23

If you get the catalogues you also get to follow the life story of Michelle, the director/buyer person, which is fascinating . The story involves skiing holidays, granite worksurfaces and a recent wedding. She's my best friend now.

Truly, I love Lakeland, for all the reasons listed by everyone else, but most of all for Sticky Stuff Remover.

Stargazer · 21/03/2004 15:52

They sent me a large plant holder (huge) by mistake. I wanted one, but decided that it was a bit too expensive. I phoned and told them of the mistake and they told me to keep it - cheaper in the long run and great for me. I really enjoy visiting their shops, but could spend a fortune

WideWebWitch · 21/03/2004 16:03

I've never been to Lakeland and I've only heard about them from that thread on Michelle and was she for real. Will have to go and have a look. I do want a lolly maker and I know they sell them.

Kayleigh · 21/03/2004 19:38

I spend a small fortune in there once a year as i go to the shop in Bluewater when i do my xmas pressie shop. I love a good mooch in there. So much stuff that you never knew you needed

TW · 21/03/2004 20:08

As others have said, the service is fantastic - you come off the phone thinking "it's so easy, why can't they all be like that?", but also their products are great. Eg, weetabix box. Also FAB stocking fillers at Xmas. Their silver foil is better quality than any other - and delivery is free if you spend over £40 - which is not difficult if you get all your cling film etc through them. A good thing I've got recently are tiny boxes with blue lids which are the perfect size for kiddies things. And it is all really good value.

Its sadly reliabe like M and S

Twink · 21/03/2004 22:02

Erm, why is that sad ?

I once complained about something I'd ordered not being as good as previously; they told me to keep what I had, sent replacements and refunded my money.

Obviously I've continued shopping with them, and their excellent customer sevice probably pays off if everyone else gets service like that.

soyabean · 21/03/2004 22:15

Havent bought anything for a while but the stuff is good and service too. Also I love the truly amazing letters page in the catalogue where people write in with alternative uses for their products. My favourite was someone who bought a little kitchen shelf from them and put her coffe powder and teabags on it and just think how much time she saved not having to open the cupboard every time she wanted a drink...I think they are real... Have resisted the temptation to write in myself.

carla · 21/03/2004 22:19

Ssssshhh. because they once mistakenly sent me two mini fridges, instead of one, and I gave that to Mum's boyfriend for his maggots, for Christmas. Shameful parent, I know, but I do love Lakeland and they've had years of business out of me and can't really justify it at all Just a terrible, greedy person. BTW, never seen the Weetabix holder - we need one, where abouts in their current cat. is it?

Davros · 21/03/2004 22:45

My husband screams when a new Lakeland catalogue arrives but they make me truly happy i like the storage one best. I've bought (as well as much else) by far the best mop bucket in the world, the best laundry baskets (with 2 handles, can put over your arm), fantastic bath mat that doesn't need cleaning and stops my son turning each bath into sunami (sp?) plus lots of other stuff. They are pretty cheap and always good quality. I've always secretly coveted the plastic thingy for holding your ketchup bottle upside down......
Their see-through shoe boxes are to die for, oh could go on forever!

carla · 21/03/2004 22:53

Davros, that in itself makes you a contender for the April swap!!

wilbur · 21/03/2004 22:53

Uh oh davros, I think you are me. Mmmm storage....

marthamoo · 21/03/2004 22:55

Davros, I have that laundry basket too (and so does my Mum) . Isn't it just fantastic? Am very jealous you have two!

marthamoo · 21/03/2004 22:57

Duh, you didn't actually say you had two did you? Laundry basket envy, terrible thing.

I like their different sized pull off plastic bags - I even have the holder thing on the inside of a cupboard door.

And I have the peg basket that hangs on the washing line.

Davros · 21/03/2004 22:58

Marthamoo, nick your mother's!! No really, my washing machine is in the cellar so having 2 baskets really works well, go on treat yourself! Where do I find April Swap? I'll have a look but will have to make it tomorrow now, I've been MNing for about an hour and was supposed to have a quick visit

marthamoo · 21/03/2004 23:01

Night davros You should come in the bar one night -if you're going to be here for an hour

prettycandles · 22/03/2004 13:43

Davros, Davros - what ketchup bottle holder? Where? I NEED one! My fridge is full of horrid sticky spots from ketchup-leaks.

Ohhhhhh feel the excitement building up as I feel another Lakeland order coming on...

Janstar · 22/03/2004 13:57

How long does it take to get something delivered?

Coddy · 22/03/2004 14:09

whn I said its sadly reliable I meant its abit liek M and S not that the customers are sad!

wilbur · 22/03/2004 14:14

My orders usually arrive within about 4-5 days janstar, depending what's in them. Take about a week at Xmas though.

Janstar · 22/03/2004 14:20

Thank you.
