Which of them and why? I've decided its the way to go, but don't know much about the differences between them. And do they really work??

Yes I'd be interested to know too, been thinking of giving one of these a try...

ninja1 · 20/03/2004 22:39

there are lots of threads about mooncups which prompted me to get mine - and it's great, confortable and convenient. I probably need to take it out less often that tampons and I don't have to worry about running out - I can definitely recommend it

cazzybabs · 20/03/2004 22:39

There was a huge thread on mooncups on here about a year ago...but dp threatened to leave me if I got one ...thought real nappies was quite enough.

stupidgirl · 20/03/2004 23:09

I believe the difference is that Keepers are made from rubber and mooncups from silicone. They are virtually the same but there is a risk of developing an allergy to the keeper. Something like that.

I have a mooncup and I love it. It is fab. It works and it is so much better than the hassle of tampons.

skerriesmum · 20/03/2004 23:31

where can you get one? Are they available in chemists or mail order or what? Period just came back after two years(!), have just weaned my ds...

JanHR · 21/03/2004 00:44

I've had both and prefer the mooncup as it is softer and more flexible, so easier to insert it.

Another hint, if you have poor muscle tone, lousy pelvic floor like mine and have a problem with tampons falling out, you'll find this a godsend,, it stays firmly put.

mrsjingles · 21/03/2004 11:48

I've had a mooncup for a few months now, and wouldn't go back to tampons. It's very comfortable, a lot cheaper in the long run, and not as messy and fiddly as you may imagine.

Demented · 21/03/2004 14:15

I still haven't taken the plunge so to speak . Keep meaning to get one but there always seems to be something more urgent to spend money on.

kiwisbird · 21/03/2004 14:38

I just couldn't get on with my Mooncup at all - I thought it would be the end to all my problems and my new best friend. It wasn't. I sent it back (yes I really did ) No leaving it in Portugal for me....it was 17 quid!

Sid · 22/03/2004 14:12

Well, I have a mooncup, as a result of the thread last year, but I'm not that happy with it. It doesn't fall out as such, I just find it very heavy on my pelvic floor and uncomfortable when I move around a lot. Now I just have it in at night.

gingerbear · 22/03/2004 14:53

I have a keeper, which was really uncomfortable before I cut off the 'tail'. I like the freedom of not relying on tampons, but I have heavy periods and find I have to empty it about 6 times a day, especially on day 2 and 3. I have to wear a nighttime 'surfboard' in case it leaks.

susanmt · 24/03/2004 14:04

Well, I made a sensible and considered decision! The mooncup was £17.99 and the keeper was £30, so I got a mooncup, especially as it cme out marginally better here.
Haven't told dh yet, I think he'll think its a step too far!

I've used the Keeper for 6 years and it's been great. I cut the tail off which made it more comfy. Must have saved my self a fortune! It's great for heavy days...more reliable than tampons and great for light days as you can leave it up for 12 hours as it's not toxic. I got it on the internet from Canada through a search engine. Must get the next size up after the birth of the big brute.

Mummysurfer · 24/03/2004 14:25

i love my mooncup - bought after last year's thread.
i still find it uncomforatble to remove put i only do that once a day ( in the shower) in the morning. don't start to use it until day 2, day 1 too heavy so we would need to empty/ remove it more often.
it did take 3 cycles to get used to it. did think i'd be heading to a&e the first time!!!
i am totally unaware of it once it is in.

good luck susanmt

Mummysurfer · 24/03/2004 14:28

tattie, where does it say leave it in for up to 12 hours? i leave mine in for 24hours.

prettycandles · 24/03/2004 14:55

Relieved to know that there's hope for me yet, Mummysurfer!

The instructions say to remove it at least 3 times in 24 hours.
