Which of them and why? I've decided its the way to go, but don't know much about the differences between them. And do they really work??

I am intrigued by this thread. But what happens when you remove it after 24 hours? I couldn't...

Mummysurfer · 25/03/2004 14:10

lol prettycandles
i hadn't noticed my 'we' slip hee hee heee

nothing 'happens' after 24 hours ...well it hasn't yet

Tattie · 29/03/2004 11:15

I just do remove it every 12 hours out of habit I suppose...probably thought 24 hours was a long time but i don't see any problem with the longer time...keep going!

celandine · 29/03/2004 13:49

I cannot believe I'm so stingy. I just looked for a mooncup on Ebay !!

(they don't have any though ...what a suprise, and probably for the best )

I just didn't realise they'd be so pricey for such a small thing. I assume you'd only need one though, and I guess they're hard to lose cos if they're on you then they're in you, and if they're not then it would be in a safe place i.e not the sort of thing you'd want to leave lying around the house as a toy for the baby to play with or anyone else to pick up and ask you about...

I should just fork out the money, I know.

My mooncup came, but now my period hasn't! I'm still pretty irregular due to breastfeeding though, but looking forward to seeing if it works.

Never looked forward to my period before!

OK I know that this is probably answered somewhere else, but I have generally avoided "these" threads. I am curious though - do you use these because they do the job well, or because you dislike the more common alternatvies? I guess I have always assumed that they were for "greenies" only (excuse the expression).

Like Bloss, I was curious and got one to try. (I'm not that into the green issue of it, mind you having seen tampons blocking my drainss it wa food for thought!) I think it is fantastic and have neveer looked back, been using it for at lest 2 years.

Once you get over the yucky thoughts, you'll find it's clean and simple to use.

prettycandles · 08/04/2004 14:40

I blame my ds! I feel icky with pads, but use them as I don't get on with tampons, but the clincher was that I really didn't want to have to explain periods to a 3yo who likes to come into the loo with me. With a Mooncup (if I ever get the hang of it) I hope I'll be able to be discreet, with the added bonus of not feeling icky.

MrsDoolittle · 08/04/2004 14:50

150percent, I am with you on this one. When I first saw this on a thread I thought it was a joke, I said so. The thread went quiet and I cursed myself for being an idiot. I was pointed towards the website a bout 2 weeks ago and I have to say I am still struggling with this one.
I have never had a problem with periods and dealing with them so an alternative would never cross my mind.

I've afraid I'm a very convenience-drivien person. Did look at cloth nappies, but couldn't be faffed. Recycle the obvious, but slightly ashamed at the number of black bags each week. Assumed that these things were for those at the environmental leading edge, and committed to utmost reuse...

I haven't really had that many periods, but have just gone on the pill so will have to use someting I guess...

prettycandles · 08/04/2004 20:01

I doubt I'll be using the Mooncup all of the time - to much faff! - but just when it's convenient!

prettycandles · 08/04/2004 20:01

Illiterate!

  • too much faff! -
mummysurfer · 08/04/2004 20:09

you will get used to it PC, it's no faff at all.
is this the first time you've used it?

prettycandles · 08/04/2004 20:29

It was, and I had to come on Mumsnet for help!

sorry to ask a really basic question - but how do you change a mooncup when you're at work/somehwere public? I can't quite imagine standing at the sink in the toilets rinsing it out...do you need to rinse each change or can you just empty and put it back? Sorry if this is a stupid question...

Hooooooray! I finally got my period (after 6 weeks !!! I thought I might be pregnant!!) and today for the first time I am using my mooncup.. It is fab!! No leaks (though I have heavy periods so have emptied every couple of hours today) and no discomfort, its a fab device, even if dh is turing up his nose at the whole thing!

Thankyou for convincing me! I'm so glad I bought it!
