I want the fastest thing on four wheels that I can fit a baby seat in...

I actually do, but can't afford one. However I'm a bit bored of posts asking about 7 seaters ;)
If I had the money, it would be a close run thing between a C63 AMG estate, Audi RS6 Avant, BMW M5 touring. The C63 just sounds SO GOOD.....
And car seats and buggies fit in the back of all of those. Win-win!
Have I missed anything?

An X5. Temporary budget constraints (am newly single) do not allow a 2nd "fun" car for the time being and practicality has to take precedence for now. Never thought I'd say that!!!
What are you getting tomorrow...?

BMW i3. Love it so far.

You should post a review on Mumsnet cars. I'd love to hear what it's like.

A race tuned stripped out austin/rover mini (with roll cage for safety)

I think I want a BMW i3, please tell us what is really like!

bigdog888 · 29/04/2014 15:03

I'm a huge BMW fan but the i3 seems expensive for what is a fairly flawed car - the battery only version seems especially pointless unless your usage if very specific. Low or zero company car tax though so I can see why it would appeal to company car users.

kronenborg · 01/05/2014 14:53

i find the i3 quite intriguing - although range on the electric only version wouldn't meet my needs, and the motor for the range extender sounds pretty crude and old fashioned (and noisy).

quite keen on having a test drive, though...and that with me, that usually ends up causing trouble...

jaundicedoutlook · 02/05/2014 23:11

Used to have c350 petrol estate. Not quite as mad as c63, but still v.quick and struggled to get >25mpg out of it. In the end glad to see the back of it and the weekly trip to the filling station.

Fuckalella · 02/05/2014 23:42

Dh has just swapped his RS6 avant for the RS4 version, the 6 was ridiculously fast but was just too thirsty! Was nice inside though, had lots of room. I prefer the 4, is a bit smaller but doesn't feel like it's about to take off!

Amateurish · 06/05/2014 13:01

I have to say I am very impressed with the i3 so far. Great acceleration, good handling. Everything seems well put together. It's surprisingly spacious inside - although it probably looks smaller from the outside than it really is. I parked it next to an X3, and they seemed pretty similar in dimensions. Battery capacity is adequate for most purposes - I reckon I can get 80-90 miles out of a charge. Range extender cuts in seamlessly and hums away in the background (rear-engined!) when you run out of charge. The "one pedal" driving technique takes some getting used to.

I agree it is very expensive for a private purchase / lease. Although limited supply will probably hold up residuals for a while. There's only one second hand i3 for sale, and it's asking £40k! My i3 was £28k new.

As a company car choice, it is extremely economical. I'm saving thousands a year compared to my previous 5 series.

kronenborg the range extender is actually very refined. It activates seamlessly and is very quiet. Not at all noisy. I think it's quite an elegant solution to the range issue. I have hardly ever used it, but it removes all range anxiety.

My daily commute is 120 miles, and I can do it all on electric as I have workplace charging. My daily fuel/energy bill has gone from £20 to £2.

kronenborg · 08/05/2014 12:49

hmmm....tempting. my daily commute is 80 miles (total), but no workplace charging facilities at present...i wonder if i would make it on a single charge.

kronenborg · 12/05/2014 08:21

just seen the model x from tesla - will likely cost a fortune, and not planned for UK till next year, but looks seriously appealing!

Amateurish · 13/05/2014 10:16

The i3 could certainly do an 80 miles commute on a single charge. But I wouldn't rely on that day in day out - what if there was a diversion? Or you needed to make a detour along the way?

fourlegstwolegs · 19/05/2014 15:58

I've just bought the most ridiculously impractical car ever...it only has two seats but it's SOOOO cool ;)
Z3M Coupe for those who know their cars!

Audi RS4 Avant (B7) although I have to say that you do want to be careful about child seats messing up the leather. Best estate car in the world I think. V8 engine, mmmm. Eats other cars for breakfast around ordinary roads and does the starship acceleration that keeps the kids quiet.

fourlegstwolegs · 29/05/2014 17:01

Love RS4s. Good choice ;)

Love the Z3M Coupe. Nearly bought one a few years back. They seem pretty rare these days. How are you finding it?

fourlegstwolegs · 16/06/2014 21:18

It's awesome. And everyone looks at it because it's so unusual! They are think on the ground these days - I think it will prove to have been a good investment in 10/20 yrs. I plan to keep it,

Amateurish · 18/06/2014 12:23

That will be those classic "breadvan" looks! It should certainly be a future classic. I'm not sure I could ever keep a car that long though - I get bored much too quickly. My i3 is equally a talking point, I've never had so many people interested in a car (and working in the industry I've had a lot of different cars). Lots of thumbs up and people taking photos on the streets.
