Mid-sleeper/ cabin beds - are they any good and will a 2.5 year old be okay in one?

That's it basically. I've looked at lots (Thuka, Flexa, Stompa) - with and without storage. It has to have a straight ladder as the bedroom is so small and there isn't room for anything other than a bed. However, am a bit worried - they all seem to have quite high rails, but even so, my ds is only 2.5 years old (and lacking in sense ) - any thoughts/experience on the safety of them? I also wonder what age they grow out of wanting a mid-sleeper. I've seen a lovely one in Aspace, but it has a 2ft6 mattress, rather than 3ft, but I wonder if he will have ceased wanting a cabin bed by the time it becomes a squash anyway. Any thoughts and recommendations would be hugely appreciated.

Wow what a lot of research.

We're about to move house and although the girls will have a bigger room to share we were thinking of maybe getting bunk beds.

I so far like the look of the Flexa - the one where you can have the beds in an L shape, so doesn't give you as much space, but looks pretty good too - anyone have anything bad to say about Flexa?

Can recommend Flexa, very good quality.

Thanks Middymo, I think having just looked at the pictures and seeing reviews on here I'm convinced, just need to convince DH its worth the money now!

I think they have a store in House of Fraser on Oxford St so will take a look there over the next few weeks.

Glad I found this post - am doing lots of soul seraching at the mo! We ordered a midsleeper from M&S - was one of those purchases where looks, value, storage and fun factor( DD spends hours in bed shops climbing up & down bunk ladders) temporarily blinded us to potential danger....anyway, now it's due for delivery on friday and we are starting to have serious doubts! Very worried that she's too young. She's 2 years 5 months and very agile yet cautious.

I think she'd be fine in it when she's alert and we've had her in the cotbed without sides for the last 2 months (Practising!) and she's only fallen half out a couple of times so I'm not too worried about that either but what if she tries to get out in the night half asleep?? Have even started looking at temporary bed options once the new baby arrives next month and comandeers the cotbed!!

Liked the futon mattress suggestion to add a higher rail...and quite relieved to see that quite a few people on this site (and several other sites as well) have had their children in them as young as 2.5...ahhh! decisions decisions...

We're thinking about these too - noticed that on the Thuka beds you can order an extra rail to make the sides higher.

We want DD3 to stay in a cot as long as humanly possible as the room she shares with DD2 will be tiny with 2 beds so we want to go to bunks - DD2 on the top, but would still put the extra rail in case DD3 ventures up there (and she will as she climbs anything and everything)
