Car window shades: Anyone using Outlook Auto Shade ?

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 20:10

In theory, these attach to the door frame and cover the entire window, but allow you to move the window up and down etc.

(Pic here )

I thought they had some clever mechanism to grip the edge of the door, but actually about 6 inches of shade fabric wraps over the top of the door and hangs outside of the car which seems somewhat strange IMHO. Also, in the instructions there's a throw-away line like 'not suitable if your car isn't garaged' or some other phrase which probably applies to 95% of purchasers... .

Anyhow, it does the job, and covers the window nicely whilst allowing ventilation, but I'm not sure if it's great or crap.

Anyone used one long term ? Or rejected after 30 seconds LOL ?

This thread is a little old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for a car sunshade, we’ve recently updated our best car sunshades for babies and children page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

You make it all sound very complicated, LOL. It will probably last 15 seconds.

It wouldn't obstruct my line of vision because BabyDragon sits behind me and I don't look out of her window. They look infinitely better than the suction pad ones which kept DSs amused on long journeys because they could remove them and stick them on their nose. Which was fine as it kept them happy but didn't keep the sun off them much.

vnmum · 04/07/2006 20:55

the windowsox are good, they fix by two velcro straps on the door frame, you can still see out of them and open the window. they have withstood many journeys at rather fast speed on the german autobahns. they also act as insect screens and pollen filters so could for hayfever sufferers. also you dont get the sun coming through the gaps where the roller blind, suction things dont cover

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 21:41

I think I might give them a whizz, and get the wonga back on the Outlooks. Hmmm... Thanks vnmum.

You bought the others without first undertaking extensive research on Mumsnet??

Gingerbear · 04/07/2006 21:43

hub, I am shocked at your lack of research!

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 21:56

'Absolutely need those sodding sunblinds now, you procrastinating beach'.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2006 22:08

Well, I've just ordered some sox for my windows.

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 22:11

Shit, you're decisive soupy.

Kind of - I'd been dithering about starting a thread to find exactly this sort of product

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 22:13

You owe me.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2006 22:15

Well, if your door is exactly the same shape as that of a 2000-2006 Renault Laguna hatchback, you can have the other one of my pair of Sox. I ony need one

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 22:23

Oh, will geekilly look at Renaults for a few days. Thanks for the offer though.

Outlook just sell you either a 'rounded' or 'rectangulared' product... I get the impression the sox are a more custom fit which would be good. I might just grab a pair and keep whichever is most fabulous. Could always use unwanted products in other car / parents etc.

My Windowsox arrived today.

And what has the weather done???

hub2dee · 06/07/2006 15:58

Don't worry... soon all will be shiny shiny and the dragon's lairmobile will be dark dark.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 06/07/2006 21:34

They look fine covering the whole window BTW. Much better than just half covering the outside I think.

hub2dee · 06/07/2006 21:51

Right. Think I might buy a set and send my ones back pronto, LOL. Thank you soupy.

SoupDragon · 06/07/2006 21:53

Think it helps if your car trim is black. Also, they don't seem to ride up even without the velcro as they're a good snug fit.

But don't blame me if they look pants on your car

hub2dee · 06/07/2006 22:02

I so will.
