Car window shades: Anyone using Outlook Auto Shade ?

In theory, these attach to the door frame and cover the entire window, but allow you to move the window up and down etc.

(Pic here )

I thought they had some clever mechanism to grip the edge of the door, but actually about 6 inches of shade fabric wraps over the top of the door and hangs outside of the car which seems somewhat strange IMHO. Also, in the instructions there's a throw-away line like 'not suitable if your car isn't garaged' or some other phrase which probably applies to 95% of purchasers... .

Anyhow, it does the job, and covers the window nicely whilst allowing ventilation, but I'm not sure if it's great or crap.

Anyone used one long term ? Or rejected after 30 seconds LOL ?

This thread is a little old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for a car sunshade, we’ve recently updated our best car sunshades for babies and children page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Gingerbear · 04/07/2006 20:13

They look like the tights that bank robbers put over their faces.

We are going troppo this weekend, will not be on MN for a fortnight.

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 20:16

People who had those ickle roller blinds I spoke to always say they came off and were crap. I suppose I should be thankful they actually offer good protection and shut the f up, eh, LOL.

I have seen better ones than your tights, Aussie made I think, hang on.....

vnmum · 04/07/2006 20:18

hi, ive got another alternative called windowsox, they completely cover both sides of window and are great. we leave them on all the time and our car isnt garaged but i probably would remove them in high vandalism areas

Gingerbear · 04/07/2006 20:19

Troppo is Aussie slang for going crazy in searing heat (ie in the wet season in Northern Territories)
Seems applicable for a holiday in July in Spain (mother's idea!!)

Learn something new everyday, GB. Take care not to come back a Beetroot.

Oooh... windowsox... will google.

hello soupy. Is babydragon growing apace with firey breath?

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 20:32

These are fairly similar products. These go all the way to the bottom of the outside window frame, the other (Outlook one) just the top 6 inches or so... hmmm, I think both look as crap as each other tbh !

The outlook one has a funny dangling strap which you secure to either the arm rest or the bottom of the door frame to hold it in place. I think the windowsox does without this. Can any windowsox owner confirm ?

windowsox is close to Windowsux which I quite like.

BabyDragon is enormous, bless her. Are the Windowsox fireproof do you think?

I think these look better as they cover up the whole of the outside window rather than a half-ar$ed 6 inches. The website imples you stick some velcro to the edge of your door to stop them riding up.

Gingerbear · 04/07/2006 20:36

Windowsux -hehehe how apt for a fellow Mac devotee.

Gingerbear · 04/07/2006 20:37

Soupy - without velcro, they could be like nora batty's stockings. ROFL.

misdee · 04/07/2006 20:38

hub, its sunshade, which you will use for a dozen times, then it will pee you off and you will discard it. honestly!!!

trust me, i know more than some doctors

hub2dee · 04/07/2006 20:40

(Was gonna leave it on for 6 months of the year, LOL)... actually, I imagine people would use this kind of sunshade for longer than the suction faces / roller blinds etc. because they can still operate the window.

Sorry for such a boring thread everyone. Glad the dragonette is doing well.

hmmmmm, but will it obstruct your line of vision too much? will your dinkydot get annoyed with the hazt view? will she grab the bit inside the car and tear it? will it not properly and fly off when your on the motorway. will the fabric outside get ripped if you drive down a country lane and you have to practically drive into the bushes to stay on the rd and scracth your car (ok i have been driving badly the last few weeks)
