Can anyone tell me how good the bugaboo cameleon is in the woods setting? i walk through the woods quite regulary with my dog and just want to make sure it will cope before i spend the big bucks, thanks

I love our cameleon, but TBH I'm not sure how well it'd cope in the great outdoors. I've never done the two wheel thing that you can do as have never needed to (plus have a toddler board so not possible anyway) - depends how much of a faff it is converting it.

I have a Quinny Formula XL and a Jane 360 powertrack and both are fab in the woods and on longer grass etc. Tend to use the Jane more as its lighter and have even managed accross the fields with DS inside and DD perched on the front bit and 2 Dalmatians in tow!! Its also more manouvarable (sp?) in the shops and the new Jane looks even nicer than mine! I prefered the seat in the Jane than that of the Mountain buggy. Both of mine loved it and as they could sit up more they really enjoyed hanging their legs over the bar and watching the world go by Smile.

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1012&threadid=160173&stamp=060401210547\Mountain Buggy all the way!}

I did loads of research (walking the dog in mind). Came down to two, the Jane and the Mountain Buggy. When I went to have a look at the two at a local independant retailer, I mentioned what I considered to be a negative about the Jane and the owner absolutely slated them (at the drop of this hat!). I have had absolutely no regrets over buying the Mountain Buggy. Sorry Wags Grin

Have you got one and want a Bugaboo RMW2? I seriously can't imagine anything would be better for off-road than the Mountain buggy, especially a Bugaboo which seems to concentrate on being a fashion accessory.

NotAnOtter · 23/04/2006 19:22

need my bessie mate to contact you she HAS both brand new..... hang on!

UKmum4 · 23/04/2006 20:01

CAN'T BELEIVE YOU TOLD PEOPLE I HAVE BOTH! Blush

If you walk woodlands etc. I would go with the mountain buggy. They are quite large for shops etc. and I really didn't like not being able to look at my baby. But.. When we do long/ cross country walks at the moment we put our three year old in the mountain bug. and it still pushes well. He would barely squeeze into the bugaboo - and I'm not sure I could steer it.

UKmum4 · 23/04/2006 20:07

incidently - I really love both and think both of them are really great pushchairs - they are both costly but if you walk everywhere they are a joy compared to anything else i've pushed and owned.

NotAnOtter · 23/04/2006 20:19

Smile this is wierd - united again by MUMSNET a continent apart!! But close at heart!!!

RMW2 · 23/04/2006 20:58

Hi thanks for the feedback, to UKmum4 have you used the bugaboo with the big wheels at the front is it anygood? the only thing putting me off the mountain buggy is that baby cannot face me in the pushchair - oh this is soo hard!!

OP posts:
UKmum4 · 23/04/2006 23:11

I really really love baby facing me - dd moans when she can't see me - not so much on walks but shopping - everytime i stop moving she starts crying. I have pushed bugaboo with big wheels forward (when we walk with 3 yr old in mountan bug.) and at the moment its fine - not quite as good as the m.b. but better than most by a long way, i would qualify this by telling you dd is only 19lbs at the moment. I definately think if you want one pushchair to use all the time the bugaboo has a slight edge. the m.b. gives a slightly smoother ride, has a bigger seat, and is better to push over rough terrain - i don't really like it in shops or tight spaces. I don't think you'll go far wrong with either - please ask if you have any more questions and let me know what you decide. I really agaonise over these decisions and drive dh ( and 'notanotter' nuts!

NotAnOtter · 23/04/2006 23:19

Ahhhh!!! I love it !

amazonianwoman · 23/04/2006 23:45

I'm thinking of selling my Bugaboo and buying a Mountain Buggy instead (see lengthy post below!) I find the bugaboo a pain to push with big wheels at the front. The little wheels at the back just don't cope very well, get clogged easily and make steering difficult imho.

UKmum4 · 24/04/2006 00:05

the re-sale on the bugabbo is fantastic!

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2006 00:12

Yes! Hoping it will completely fund the Mt Buggy Grin

UKmum4 · 24/04/2006 00:14

should do - if you want it for rough ground and a child who wants to look out you'll love it!

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2006 00:24

Glad I'm not the only nutter still posting after midnight about buggies Grin

heymissymum · 24/04/2006 01:46

no here's another nutter posting after 1.00 about buggies - still undecided... and read someone commenting positively on the microlite again too? will have to put dd in that one again just to be sure whether she's comfotable or not - however she did not refer to the microlite as "a bed" yet this is the description she gleefully applies to the mb and quest version of the maclaren (yikes) so I am edging ever closer to selling my two prams \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lx0722&bklist=icat,4,shop,shopushchairs,pusstrollers\this} (in the mauve not black) and \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/rev/push/836.html\this} (comments are too right about the folding mech. and steering when older child is on board) and replacing with \link{http://www.mountainbuggy.com/aus/urbansingle.html\this} for me, dd and future kiddies and \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/la0425&bklist=icat,4,shop,shopushchairs,pusstrollers\this} to keep dp happy

or if I can convince myself just go with \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lw0865&bklist=icat,4,shop,shopushchairs,pusstrollers\this} cream looks nice as does red and carrycot can be applied for infants? plus easy to fold and dd loves facing the world anyway - always has done, but really have to win myself over on this one - did consider the bugaboo but was put off with comments about folding...

UKmum4 · 24/04/2006 02:20

in my defense i live in the states at the moment so its not so late for me - but def. qualify as a nutter for many other reasons. GrinUrban m.b and an umbrella fold work well together - what i had and was happy with until dd got fractious not looking at me.

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2006 09:54

Heymissymum - I think that is the best choice - Mt Buggy (+ carrycot later on for more babes) + Quest - will give the best all-round solution imho. Think that's what I'm going to do. The Bugaboo (getting a little defensive now!) is great, but tries to be everything in one buggy, ie town + country, but it just can't cover all the options well. And is still a pain in the a*se to fold/carry.

You do it and I'll do it Grin

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2006 09:55

Forgot to add, every Micralite I've tried in stores has been broken. I know they're only demos, but possibly sums up quality

RMW2 · 24/04/2006 12:18

wow thanks everyone for your comments this is a great forum! now i am thinking maybe i should buy two pushchairs! the mountain buggy for the woods as it seems to be a fantastic buy and then get a lighter one for around town that could be a 4 wheeler which then opens a whole new can of worms! he he

OP posts:
hub2dee · 24/04/2006 12:37

RMW2 - we thought the same... we'd get the MB for long walks etc. and an umbrella stroller for the shops... in the end, we've found (depsite having a 2 door convertible car with small boot), the MB WAS ALL WE NEEDED ! (And ours is a fixed wheel Terrain, remember).

When I was umming and ahhing (and boy did I do a lot of that), someone sensibly pointed out that it is rather rare to spend much time spinning your buggy round and round on the spot... most of the time you're just pushing the thing, not negotiating a narrow aisle in a corner shop.

My advice is to get the MB to start with, live with it for a week or so and then decide if you need a second stroller for the car boot / shopping centre etc.... We've found one (decent) stroller (ie the MB) was all we needed.

Hi everyone thanks for all the feedback it makes for great reading and is really useful, just one more query has anyone used it with a car seat on top i believe it does have this option?
