Moondog wants one (a detailed convo that is). Think she should have it here Grin

OP posts:
jampots · 27/03/2006 10:42

absolutely fab things - the glee and disgust when you clean the hob and around the taps/sink is immeasurable.

spacecadet · 27/03/2006 10:43

wow, so much to say about the wonder of steam cleaners-where to start?

moondog · 27/03/2006 10:46

OOh spacey.more like when to finish!
So.....does the gunk come off before one's eyes???
Any danger of scalding oneself in the general excitement?

Thanks hunker for allowing me to release my inner domestic slave.

Grin
desperateSCOUSEwife · 27/03/2006 10:47

yes moondog they are good
carpets come out lovely

jampots · 27/03/2006 10:48

yes the shite is released before your very eyes. Even supposedly clean things spring forth new sludge. The best bit for me is where my sink joins my worktop and around the taps.

Yes it is possible to scald yourself in the excitement/horror as you try to wipe the crap up before anyone sees it

moondog · 27/03/2006 10:51

Carpets too?????
I can hardly stifle my shrieks of ecstacy.

So....let's talk brands 'n prices laydeeez.

Does it reduce amount of time spent with a cloth in hand?
How about.............

highchairs???

spacecadet · 27/03/2006 11:52

can hear your shrieks of ecstasy from here!
def reduces time spent with cloth in hand
even better than highchairs-try them on grubby tiles behind your cooker-amazing!

moondog · 27/03/2006 14:26

Give us a brand name to work with Spacey!!!

Sponge · 27/03/2006 14:58

I've got one but really only use it for floors. I've got uneven tiles in the kitchen and the only other way to get them really clean is hands and knees and scrubbing brush so brilliant for that. Also good for nooks and crannies, joins etc as mentioned. For most other things I find conventional cleaning methods just as good or better. Mine is not the hoover type (i.e it steams but doesn't suck) so not much good for carpets althopugh will spot clean marks on carpets and upholstery quite well.

spacecadet · 27/03/2006 15:47

mine is a simac.

Sponge · 27/03/2006 15:55

mine is \link{http://www.vacuumcleaners4u.co.uk/details.php?pID=60&cID=25\this one}

scampadoodle · 27/03/2006 15:58

Can you use them to clean mildewy woodwork around windows?
(Be still my beating heart Grin )

expatinscotland · 27/03/2006 16:01

mine's a simac as well. LOVE it! it just uses water - no chemicals or fake smells.

moondog · 27/03/2006 16:40

Blimey spomge! That's a bit steep. and for one that doesn't suck to boot!
I would imagine the suck 'n steam versions are the price of a holiday in the Caribbean then?
I see some in places like the Telegraph advertised for about £50.Would they be shite then??

The things I learn on MN.

spacecadet · 27/03/2006 16:45

i paid £79.99 for mine.

spacecadet · 27/03/2006 16:46

simac do one for 50 quid.

moondog · 27/03/2006 16:46

That sounds more like it!
Make,if you will???

spacecadet · 27/03/2006 17:14

simac is the make moondog-i should think most electrical stores will sell it.

moondog · 27/03/2006 22:35

Sorry,SC,I note you ghad already mentioned it.
Me getting over excited see?
I'm over to Bangor tomorrow to search one out!

expatinscotland · 27/03/2006 22:39

i got a simac one for £40 on ebay. works a treat! LOVE it. wait'll you see your tiles afterwards, moon.

tamum · 27/03/2006 22:40

Ha, so your conversation about paint stripping got too interesting, huh? :o

Pruneau · 27/03/2006 22:40

oooh I love mine too
the non-chemical aspect is v satisfying
NB mine took some paint off round the wall/"vanity unit" join in the bathroom
but poor quality paintwork rather than bad steam cleaner

tamum · 27/03/2006 22:41

Excllent Pruneau- now you can go to moondog's thread about paint primers and the like.

Pruneau · 27/03/2006 22:45

hmmm might give that one a miss...
Wink

expatinscotland · 27/03/2006 22:46

ah, painting! MUCH better than wallpaper, which is just dreadful.
