I have the polti 300 lux (2 of them actually - long story moving house, much loved steam cleaner went missing had to buy a new one etc - then 6 months later rogue cleaner turns up!!) it is excellent from cleaning grout (floor and wall), windows, cupboards etc gets right into all the nooks and crannies that normally end up a bit black. It is good for carpets but extremely time consuming if you have a big area to cover. And best of all all those nasty nooks on your high chair if you have one the chicco mama styles like I have. It sanitises, I use it on my mattress every now and them to freshen them up and hopefully nuke any bed bugs. cant live with out mine. Get one with as hihg a bar pressure are you can afford. Oh yes us it for getting creases out of things like coats which have been in wash and have gently cleaned a wool coat with mine also.

spacecadet · 28/03/2006 16:31

did you get one moondog?
and how is bangor?Grin

moondog · 28/03/2006 22:23

Bangor's fine SC. It sends its love. Smile
Dropped into Tesco but nowhere else.
I decided it was too big a job with both children in tow.
Will leave it until Thurs or Fri I think, when they are both at school and nursery.

I don't want to squander this treat.

One more question..just bought a lovely second hand chair but it reeks of fags. Would the steam cleaner be able to weave its magic here d'you think??

spacecadet · 29/03/2006 22:54

did you know that tesco is at the end of cytir lane where i grew up and my uncle still lives there! it used to be the rugby club, im a goldmine of useless info me.
you could try with the steam cleaner, if not spribkle some bicarb of soda on it and hoover or wash off.

moondog · 30/03/2006 21:35

Ah Spacey, remember the rugby club well.
Had my first snog there aeons ago!

No steam cleaners in Currys. I think it will have to be an internet job.
The Welsh masses obviously not yet awake to the wonders of steam cleaning.

Thanks for the bicarb suggestion.
Have done it.
The study looks like there's been a drugs raid.

moondog · 30/03/2006 21:36

Can't remmeber houses there though..I thought it was never a residential area?

spacecadet · 30/03/2006 21:55

A little late to the party...

but what chance does a steam cleaner have of removing that weird, really ingrained, black dirt that sits in the micro dimpled face of laminate flooring ?

Any laminate floor owners know what I mean ? It refuses to come off with laminate floor cleaning chemicals / water / scrubbing brush... and gives a pleasantly gross grungey appearance to whole areas of flooring, particularly when being inspected on hands and knees (as I trust you all do at least twice a day). Will a steam cleaner deal with this and render my floor pristine ?

Smile
spacecadet · 01/04/2006 18:52

hub-ive never used a steam cleaner on my laminate floor, but you could try it on a small. discreet area and see what happens.

hub2dee · 01/04/2006 18:54

but spacey, I don't own one (yet), LOL.

Smile

Go on... do you have a secret really grimy part ? You have to look real close and then you see the surface is actually a nasty grey rather than wood-looking...

Blandmum · 01/04/2006 18:55

How good are the 'real' ones with carpets?

I have an el cheapo steam stripper that is supposed to double up but it isn't that good.

Note, never put steam stripper into a search engine Blush

spacecadet · 01/04/2006 19:00

MB-personally i havent found my steam cleaner to be any good on my carpets, i think you need one of those rug doctor things. i use a vax electric carpet shampooer.

spacecadet · 01/04/2006 19:01

pmsl MB-im going to go and put steam stripper into google!

hub2dee · 02/04/2006 20:04
