I really like Clarins hand cream

Also there's a Tisserand one that's brilliant and smells gorgeous (rose and lavender)

Neutrogena is very good but at the moment I'm using a Nivea Q10 one which is excellent too without the stickiness of neutrogena.
Also, change your handwash to a really moisturising one.
My hands are worse this year than ever (they crack and start to bleed) but this is helping.

I've got the Nivea Q10 one which is nice but not quite heavy duty enough for my hands Sad

CountessDracula · 06/03/2006 16:18

Second clarins

And L'occitane shea butter one

wilbur · 06/03/2006 16:19

If your hands are really chapped, try Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream - developed for Norwegian fishermen, so it's hardcore! It's one of the only things that works on my hopeless skin.

wilbur · 06/03/2006 16:20

Post crossed with cupcake!

Katemum · 06/03/2006 16:21

I second Neutrogena Norwegian formula.

cupcakes · 06/03/2006 16:26

spacedonkey - if you don't think much of the Q10 ones then I might try one of your recommendations.

Gem13 · 06/03/2006 16:29

DSis swears by the Body Shop hemp one (for gardeners?). She said she's tried them all and that is the best.

Haven't been near a Body Shop since she told me so I can't speak from personal experience.

Gem13 · 06/03/2006 16:30

Need some now... and a drink of water too!

SorenLorensen · 06/03/2006 16:31

Another vote for the Body Shop Hemp one - I don't know what I'll do if they ever stop making it. It's quite greasy/heavy - I put it on last thing at night and when I wake up in the morning my hands are soft as a baby's bottom (oh, OK, not really - but it is excellent stuff!)

waterfalls · 06/03/2006 16:32

I have very dry, sore hands too, and apart from hand cream I find exfoliating them with a gentle exfoliating wash (for faces is fine)helps alot. Johnsons exfoliating face wash is quite gentle.

angelcake99 · 06/03/2006 16:32

just looking at a shea butter one on ebay, will bid if the price doesnt go up too much! I'm keeping note of all of your recommendations so i can work my way through them. Smile

I love Hand Relief

the hand cream by Aveda, that is Wink

costs about £18 I think, but well worth it

Mosschops30 · 06/03/2006 16:43

glad i'm not the only one with cracked bleeding hands, why are they like this? never normally this bad.
I am using dove handcreme but no better. Maybe will try Neutrogena have heard a few recommendations for this

HandbagAddiction · 06/03/2006 16:44

Body Shop do two different ones which are both good. Love their hemp one - really excellent. I also rate their Almond Oil Hand Rescue treatment which I am currently using having spent a week using some heavy duty paint stripper - it's working wonders!

zippy539 · 06/03/2006 16:47

Aqueous Cream is fantastic - and incredibly cheap (less than a fiver for a massive amount) if you buy it in a big tub from the chemist (they usually have it in the pharmacy dept if not on the shelves). It is the only thing that has managed to get rid of my chicken elbows and if you have rough feet it practically smooths them out over night.

The other good one is 'Foot Care Cream' made by CCS. I don't know how much it costs (not hugely expensive I reckon) and though it is technically for feet my MIL was prescribed it to treat her hands after she'd had radiotherapy on them and it was fabby. I used it all over - even on my face and it really does the business.

saadia · 06/03/2006 16:51

My hands are always dry and cracked too. I've been using Atrixo which I think is pretty good but will now try the Body Shop ones as they sound brill.

Thirtysix · 06/03/2006 22:04

I use the Neutrogena Norwegian formula last thing at night and then sleep in cotton gloves-hardly likely to set passion alight but in the morning my hands are SO much softer....

JackieNo · 06/03/2006 22:13

I'm a bit of a handcream addict, and am currently using about 4 different ones Blush. Neutrogena is definitely good (and not too expensive). Like the Clarins and L'Occitane ones too, also the Liz Earle one. But what I'd recommend for last thing at night (too greasy for during the day, I found) is one I bought online - the \link{http://www.motherearth.co.uk/html/garden.html\Gardener's Hand and Nail Cream} from Mother Earth (you'll need to scroll down to the bottom of the page).

jac34 · 06/03/2006 22:18

Good question angelcake,I've been using Neutrogena but my hands are still really dry.I think I should wear gloves more, when I'm out on cold days, but they make my hands sweat(I know......I'm strange)Smile

Rafaella · 06/03/2006 22:28

Another vote for Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector - I've tried lots and this one is by far the best for seriously dry hands. Great smell too... reminds me of student days

Pruni · 06/03/2006 22:32

Dermalogica hand cream is excellent and smells fab.
Aveda hand relief smells so identical that I compared ingredients, but they do seem to be different.

ChicPea · 06/03/2006 22:53

I had a spell of really dry hands and there was another thread which recommended amongst others Body Shop's Hemp and also some sort of oil very fragranced one - can't remember the name - but if you go in there the assistants will know. Also, I was told by a dermatologist to wash with an emollient so I have pumps of diprobase and doublebase cream around the house so I am always washing with a moisturiser. If I am out and use a soap as I have no choice my hands feel really taut straight after.
