Tesco's delivery service

uwila · 02/03/2006 09:07

Do you use Tesco's? Do you think it's worth the savings over Waitrose?

Last night I was supposed to have groceries delivered between 8:00 and 10:00. I was so tired and really wanted to go to be early. I waited until 10:00. No where in sight. No phone call. So, I calles the cutomer service number. And they guy there tried to call the driver, but came back to me saying there was no answer. I waited until 10:20 and went to bed. At 10:26 the door bell ring. But,I this point I though no fricken way am I getting up to put away the groceries now.

Has anyone else had this experience with Tescos? I was / am furious. Really ticks me off.

That's crap. It happened once that I had to chase them up when they were running late. That driver was really clueless though (was an older, educated-sounding bloke with no concept of customer service).

Usually they get here within the time slot, once or twice the driver's called to say he's running 5mins late.

I would call customer services again and rant in the hope of some money-off vouchers.

stitch · 02/03/2006 09:15

call customer services and complain
in really annoyed at tesco at the moment as i cant get a bloody delivery slot, unless its next week! what good is that?
is waitrose worth it?

uwila · 02/03/2006 09:17

Not to mention I STILL have no groceries. Am considering Waitrose. But I keep thinking that will just be cutting off my nose to spite my face as it will cost me more money.

OP posts:
stitch · 02/03/2006 09:18

and i can usually find tesco vouchers somewhere on the internet. but have yet to find any ocado ones that are not for firts orders only.

uwila · 02/03/2006 09:20

I think Waitrose provides a far superior delivery service. You get a ONE hour delivery slot. They are muchnicer when they get to the door. They ask you where you would like the groceries. In the kitchen? On the table? Wherever. Tesco just drops them at my front door and runs.

BUT, I am poor and Tesos is cheaper... GRRRRR.

You get tesco vouchers on the internet?

OP posts:
CarolinaMoon · 02/03/2006 09:22

did they charge you for the groceries?

CarolinaMoon · 02/03/2006 09:23

uwila · 02/03/2006 09:23

When I talked to customer service last night he said I wouldn't be charged for the order. This BETTER be true.

\link{http://www.hotukdeals.com/News+index-catid-147-topic-.phtml\this is one of the websites that i use for discount codes}
scroll down and the shops are listed alphabetically on the left.
mnetters often share out codes too

angelp · 02/03/2006 09:25

Try Sainsburys? I hour slots too and if they are late you get a £10 voucher. I love it when they are late!

TheBlonde · 02/03/2006 09:26

Ocado email codes to you - usually money off wine or a free something. No real bargains

jangly · 02/03/2006 09:26

I had an Ocado delivery this week. The delivery slot was 1 hour,l2 - 1 in my case, and he arrived five past 12. Everything in order. nothing missed out and no substitutions. If you order over £75 worth (surprisingly easy!) delivery is free. I think they price match on branded lines. Their own stuff is sometimes dearer, but better quality. Definitely prefer them to Tesco.

21stcenturygirl · 02/03/2006 09:31

Hi uwila!!!

Precisely the reason why I stopped using them. Also, half the stuff wouldn't turn up and I'd have to go shopping myself.

I really loved ocado and far superior produce. Okay a bit more expensive but you get more for your money. Also I used to get email vouchers every week - £5 off.

Comparing ocado to tesco, in terms of cost, I would probably end up paying (after discount) about £5 a week more on a £70 week shop. But then with ocado i tended not to chuck too much away as I found the tesco's fruit went off quicker than the ocado (mainly due to the short sell by date produce that tesco's used to provide).

Try them out for one week and see what happens.

By the way, I did try and complain to tesco's about their service but I never heard anything back. Whereas when I complained to ocado about something being missing, it was rectified immediately.

Your probably asking - why don't I use ocado anymore? Well I go bulk buying (Costco) every six weeks and just stock up on the small items once a week (takes less time than it would to complete my internet order).

Weatherwax · 02/03/2006 09:32

My mother recieved a 10% off your order offer from Ocado recently. For a named customer ufortunately but I was impressed. The drivers she has had so far have been impressive.

NannyL · 02/03/2006 09:34

My last family used tescos... we found the same as you..... they wouldnt come on time / would come when we were not there / too early etc.... drove us mad...

she has no switched to Ocado / sainsburys home deliveries.

Where i work now we have been using Ocado weekly since beginning December 05. All i can say is they are GREAT.... so far they have a 100% on time record (and normally come within 15 minutes (either side) if the beginning of the booked slot. (They will wait until the correct time IF you want them to... but i would rather just get it away!)

The drivers are friendly... and bring it all right through to the kitchen without a fuss (In my old house some Tesco drivers told me they were uninsured IN the house, but most would still bring it through when i pointed out baby and toddler!)

Also so far they have only 'forgotten' one thing once... we have never had a substituiton, and often get free extras.... last week was a bottle of wine!

Then theres the "waitrose" side of it... things you purchase are more ethical... they wont use eurpoean (caged pigs Sad) pork... only british Smile and most eggs used in their prouducts are free range AND there fish is more sustainably sourced as well.

Nbg · 02/03/2006 09:36

I have had a nightmare with tescos recently.
I won't shop with them anymore. I went back to Asda and they are spot on, never any complaints.

aelita · 02/03/2006 09:42

Don't think Ocado is infallible though. I had a late slot booked recently ('between 10 and 11') and had to prop my eyes open til about 11.45pm for it. Can't think why I didn't demand vouchers as recompense for lost sleep! YOu don't get the daft substitutions though and they are the best of the lot.

katyp · 02/03/2006 09:48

Have used Ocado for ages and agree they are excellent. I tried Tescos recently and the delivery arrived on time, etc but I did find the driver just wanted to dump the bags and go - didn't really have time to check if the substitutions were ok (but they were). I did think it was a lot cheaper than Ocado though so probably will use them again. The one thing I didn't like was the huge number of carrier bags - some only had one or two items in. I must have had about 30 bags for a £70 shop. Obviously i would expect them to pack certain things seperately but it seemed way over the top.

uwila · 02/03/2006 09:50

My experience with Sainsbury's is that they like to sustitute Saisnbury brand for too many things when it is not at all what I want. For example if I ordered a weight watcher chicken hot pot frozen meal, they would bring me a sainsbury (full fat) hot pot meal. Didn't dawn on them that it was the low fat weight watcher element that was the attraction, not that it had to be chicken hot pot.

I too have found that tesco (and sainbury) bring things that are about to go out of date.

ASDA... now there's an idea. I've never tried them. Anyone else use/like ASDA? In fact, I've never even been to the store.

i nearly always use ocado for our weekly shop, especially now i am 37 weeks pg and dh works long hours and weekends. they never substitute, i always get what i have ordered (you wait the one due today will have a really strange substitution now!), they are always on time, except once and then the driver rang to say he would be ten minutes late.
they hardly ever have money off offers, but nearly every week they send me a offer for a free gift, i've had a bottle of wine, chocs, flowers and this week was a choice of 'kids'items, could choose from a cooking set, messenger style bag, art set and something else all worth about £20.
i did get bored of ocado the other week and used sainsburys instead, i was impressed witht eh range on offer, delivery times avaliable, shopping arrived promptly, but just felt that the customer service wasn't there, sainsburys just dropped it at the door and left, whereas ocado always ask where i want it and will even take boxes of wine, water, beer etc to the garage. the delivery driver is always freindly and asks how are you, and as it seems to be the same driver each week, he knows where i want to put stuff now and always asks how i am and how much longer to go, have a nice weekend etc. i know its silly but a small amount of customer service goes a long way.

uwila · 02/03/2006 10:10

I have just sent this message to the lovely Tescos. I doubt I'll get my compensation, but we'll see...

"I notice that under my account it says order number 13156965 has been delivered. But, it has not.

It should have been delivered last night between 8:00 and 10:00. I waited until 10:20 znd then went to bed.

I am very disappointed with this service. I called customer service who called the driver at 10:12, but he
did not answer his mobile phone. I have come to Tesco from Ocado because the prices are lower. But, what
good is it when I don't get the delivery at all?!

I am very dissatisfied. I have no groceries for the two children and nanny at home (well some, but not
enough) and I do not have time to go do shopping now and cannot get another delivery time before the weekend
when someone will be there to revieve the order.

I would expect some sort of compensation if you want to keep me as a customer. (say £20 off my shopping and
deliver tonight between 6:00 and 8:00). Tou can contact me on ."

BTW, thank you for the site on the vouchers! Can you use it only once?

I reordered and got my £15 off. Grin

Hmm, used them on tuesday-tescos that is, not very impressed, driver did turn up in time(3-5 slot) turned up 4.50pm, but 4 items had been substituted, 2 packs of hot cross buns said best BEFORE 2nd(it was the afternoon of the 1st I received order) and they turned up without c+g milk(am b/fing, but topping up last thing at night, so was deperate for it that evening and couldnt get to shops as were all ill)
am going to do 1 more shop with them then decide wether or not to do it again.
Things got substituted for higher prices ie, ordered 2 pks of value choc biscuits as dp doesnt care about the brand as will sit and eat a whole packet with big mug of tea at the end of the week....they bought me Mc vitites for half the size packet of the value ones and 3 times the cost-£1.09 per packet!Shock
also didnt like the fact one minute(ie when you order) things were BOGOF etc then when delivered-hey whatabout it.........no longer on offerAngry

thing is dont think theres anywhere else near me that does home delivery-can anyone suggest any places that do internet shopping and supply me with website address? thanks

uwila · 03/03/2006 15:56

Hi BusyAlexmummy. If you are unhappy with something you have recieved, you can call and complain. Whenever I have done this they have removed the product from the bill. I would have sent the cookies back. I hate when they substitue for more expensive items.

By the way, I have recieve no response fro customer ervice after the note I sent them. Typical.
