Do you use Tesco's? Do you think it's worth the savings over Waitrose?

Last night I was supposed to have groceries delivered between 8:00 and 10:00. I was so tired and really wanted to go to be early. I waited until 10:00. No where in sight. No phone call. So, I calles the cutomer service number. And they guy there tried to call the driver, but came back to me saying there was no answer. I waited until 10:20 and went to bed. At 10:26 the door bell ring. But,I this point I though no fricken way am I getting up to put away the groceries now.

Has anyone else had this experience with Tescos? I was / am furious. Really ticks me off.

It seems to work better to ring tesco customer services and they will more usually deal with your complaint quickly

I also use the note writing so put eg no brown on the bananas, this item only if bogof etc

I tend to assume that if it isn't avialble for home delivery then it wouldn't have been in the store on that day either

spacecadet · 03/03/2006 16:11

ive stopped using tesco online as i was fed up of my delivery being messed up, either i got ridiculous substitutions, or my main gripe, items with a use by date ending that day!!!!, ive had 4 whole chickenms that were use by the day of delivery and when i phoned tesco.com to complain, the bloke on the phone said"cant you cook it tomight??!!"
also i had late deliveries and ones that have turned up an hour early!
sadly i now have to either drive 15 miles to asda or 8 to waitrose as tesco is the only delivery service round here
(we still have no mains gas, or cable tv btw)

Yes Tesco - rubbish! Tried online shopping a few times when it was v difficult to get out to shops, but never again unless absolutely desperate. They did stupid things e.g. brought three 4-pinters of milk that had BB date that same day, when I'd ordered them to last the week Angry!

I think it depends (but it shouldn't) on the local store

and I only order for am delivery but usually at the weekend I'm more concerned about getting up than going to bed lol

yorkshirepuddling · 03/03/2006 20:08

I use Asda and have had no problems - my first delivery I got a call to ask if it could be delivered an hour earlier or if I wanted him to drive back as he was in the area, they have never been later ans the substitutes, although small in number have always been sensible.

spacecadet · 03/03/2006 20:14

rang asda helpline today, theyu said they had no immediate plans to deliver to my area, ditto ocado, its not fairSad

uwila · 06/03/2006 13:42

Checked ASDA. They don't deliver to my area. Sad

I ordered a dvd today as a treat for the kids after lunch. Came with the bloody security case on!

They're sending someone round at 2 (who's shift will have finished) to swap it... so they'll have to watch it tomorrow lol

We once had a problem where I'd entered the wrong card details but they did not phone me to tell me the goods hadn't been paid for. So on the day the stuff was supposed to arrive, I got to half an hour past the time and called up, they said they couldn't deliver as hadn't been paid for. So I gave them the correct details, arranged a delivery the next day. The stuff turns up, half of it missing like cat food (poor cat!), toilet rolls etc, with loads of food with use by dates for that day and a lot of short dated stuff. DH rang up and complained, said there was no way that he'd let me eat the majority of the food (I was pregnant at the time). He said he wanted a driver to come and remove everything and be refunded, otherwise we'd take it to our local Tesco, dump it in the enterance and make a song and dance. They refuded everything on the bill and told us to keep the food and throw away what we didn't want. So a lot of the tinned stuff / frozen / crips and cerals, we got for free.

We have had other problems such as:

  • Delivery arriving but with no chilled stuff, sent out on another van three hours later
  • Veg arriving with the previous dates "use by date"
  • Several late deliveries

Their customer services isn't very good. Their usual answer is "yeah, we'll refund it" and hang up!

I regularly use tesco and ours provides an excelleny service both with food and the dleivery time can't fault them at all.

Elf1981 · 06/03/2006 14:08

we started having problems when the store that used to do the deliveries stopped doing it and our catchment area went to a different store. Different staff, less experienced packers etc etc.
We can go weeks and weeks with no problem, then they just go massively wrong!

foxinsocks · 06/03/2006 14:13

my ocado delivery was an hour late this morning Shock I did get a call to let me know though. I have never had substitutions from them.

I quite like sainsburys but lately, I've not been able to get a delivery slot that's convenient (most of them seem to be booked up for days).

foxinsocks · 06/03/2006 14:14

or even substitutes!

MrsWobble · 06/03/2006 14:46

I used to use Tescos but have also changed to Ocado for the reasons others have given. I think one of the differences is that Tesco pick the deliveries from the stores hence the short shelf life whereas Ocado pick them from a depot so they have a longer life

satine · 06/03/2006 15:13

I've used Tesco, Sainsbury and Ocado and it seems to me that Ocado is the only firm which actually cares about pleasing its customers!

Uwila · 15/03/2006 11:44

Well, Tesco has gone even further down in my book. Further to this, they have charged me credit card for the order. I called too complain, and they informed me that it will take 14 days. GRRRRRR

So, next question: ASDA opinions, please. They unfotunately don't deliver to me. So I'm going to venture off to ASDA after work and wondered if you have any recommendations or things to avoid. Like, meat is bad, bread i yummy. Or whatever.

This incidentally make me ever madder at Tesco beccause it means I won't get home in time to see my sick 10 month old before he goes off to bed tonight. Angry
