What books do I NEEEEEEED on my Kindle?

Getting a Kindle for my birthday this month (after years of slavishly collecting books) and am going to go over to e-books totally. My flat is too small for the written word, so aside from my Harry Potters, I will be getting rid of all my books.

Thankfully for book lovers, I'm not a massive 'classics' reader so theres a real hodge podge of books.

What do I need on my Kindle....recommend me some books to get. So far on my list I have War Horse and The Huger Games books, none of which I have read yet.

Life of Pi
Rebecca
The Millenium Trilogy

I'll think of some more later...

Ooh you are brave for getting rid!!!!!! Dh and i have decided to as exclusively as we can, only buy ebooks form now on and perhaps root our duplicates and other tree books we don't need but the whole hog - wow you;re brave (our house would be so much emptier though lol)

A good place to go and look is the kindle discussion forum - access via the bar along the top(ish) of the page once you are in the kindle part of amazon! Loads of freebies shown, as well as good bargains and books you might have forgotten about or in fact never know of!

Thanks. I decided to totally get rid as we have them all piled up in our bedroom and storage is really tight in our flat so I can't have a Wooooo-Zen-Relax bedroom with them all in.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes is a great read. The White Tiger is also a good read but alot darker.

Can't think of anymore off the top of my head, might pop back later.

What were the last few books you enjoyed?

I enjoy Jodi Picoult, though I think she is 'marmite'. Others I have enjoyed over the years are Life of Pi, Curious Incident, Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Death and Life of Charlie St Cloud and a few others.

Haven't read anything other that Harry Potter over the last year due to teensy baby taking up all my usual reading time Grin

Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell
Marjorie Morningstar (I love this book!) - Herman Wouk
Peyton Place - Grace Metalious

Ooh I love threads like this! Shadow in the Wind, The Book Thief, The Little Stranger, The Tigers Wife. The Other Hand is a bit harrowing but brilliant. Best thing to do is to search for something on Amazon that you have read and enjoyed and then look at the list toweards the bottom of the page that shows what other people have bought who enjoyed the same book. You can find some great books that way.

Just looked at The Paris Wife and the paperback is £3.99, the kindle version is £4.99 so really don't recommend that one Shock

HeathRobinson · 08/05/2012 20:10

If you like fantasy, try Keira's Moon.

MadameChinLegs · 08/05/2012 20:12

I'm looking at my Kindle as a way to delve into hitherto unexplored genres read as dump the chic lit

So happy to take on as many recomendations as people can give. And fill it so that when MIL offers to lent me her Mills and Boon I can have a decent excuse Grin

If you want to dump the chick lit, I'll recommend Me Before You again. It has a pinkish cover, is a romance but is in no way chick lit. Our book group read it and I really didn't want to read it as it looked like fluff but was very pleasantly surprised.
