Can anyone suggest a place where there might be possible discounts? Am considering buying one for DH's birthday

I looked into this extensively when I bought one for my dh (the nano) and later when we got the video one for me. The price is totally standardised. It never goes on sale and there are no special offers. Still, I think its worth it!

pupuce · 08/02/2006 13:18

Ilana- thanks... wonder if I know you.... are you with ABM?

pupuce, I think Alibubbles knows of a way to access a modest discount on iPods - try CATing her.
I paid standard rates for mine at John Lewis because of their after-sales service and also I feel less like that poor man in the Not the Nine O'Clock News sketch ("you want a WOOFER with that? Ha ha, you loser etc") when shopping for cutting edge technology.
I love mine

Marina · 08/02/2006 13:24

and I successfully persuaded FrenchGirl to buy one too

pupuce · 08/02/2006 13:26

Well if it's all the same price I might aim for the Apple shop - great fun to go there !!!

You are fearless madame

pupuce · 08/02/2006 13:29

Qu'est ce que ca veut dire ???

Marina · 08/02/2006 13:32

I am too Apple-unenabled to feel confident in the Apple Shops, pupuce, but I know you are already Apple-friendly!

Frenchgirl · 08/02/2006 13:35

Marina are you have your cut from Apple again???

pupuce · 08/02/2006 13:37

Surely it is apparent from this thread that I am am a satisfied but still ambivalent customer of Apple
I was enjoying the Negresses Vertes Remix album this very morning Frenchgirl...

Marina · 08/02/2006 13:40

Nous en avons dans la bibliotheque pupuce, j'adore mais aussi j'ai un peu peur. Ils ressemblent un peu trop au megalithe de 2000 Space Odyssey (et les etudiants sont inevitablement les singes qui dansent autour...)

Frenchgirl · 08/02/2006 13:41

ah la nostalgie!! Haven't heard these guys for a while.....
Do you have any benabar or delerm on your smooth little iPod?

pupuce · 08/02/2006 13:46

We're huge Mac fans here - we've got two and I want to upgrade.......

Marina · 08/02/2006 13:50

No, do recommend albums, FrenchGirl...and are Les Rythmes Digitales any good, and what about Amadou et Mariam - I've heard good reports of Dimanche a Bamako.
Dh has made me swear not to attempt to source any Indochine though, the cheeky rascal. Takes me right back to my Radio Basse-Normandie and les super maxi 45s de (l'idiot) Patrick Pierre. How I cheered when he was finally hauled off to do his national service in Poitiers .
I hesitate to enquire about Belgian rock bands pupuce

IlanaK · 08/02/2006 13:51

Hi pupuce - it is me from the ABM. Just trying to work out who you are!

And I totally love my ipod by the way. I am not much of a music listener, but I still get tonnes of use from it with audio books, photos, video clips etc.

pupuce · 08/02/2006 13:57

I am the one who asked to be off the rota for early March

OP posts:
Frenchgirl · 08/02/2006 13:58

Don't know les Rythmes Digitales...
I have Dimanche a Bamako, it's very good indeed.
From the 'nouvelle chanson francaise', I'd recommend Benabar's 'Les risques du metier' and subsequent album (which I haven't got yet!), both of Vincent Delerm (though his voice is an acquired taste, I love it though), Jeanne Cherhal is very good (haven't heard her CD though). I hope you have some Gainsbourg, Brel, Nougaro, Jeanne Moreau and Brassens of course... I say well done to your dh for banning Indochine
Can't think of any more at the moment, must go and take dd to cello! A plus!
btw, got 'Un air de famille' on your recommendation, it's brilliant *love all the bits on the depressing dog!)
have you seen 'On connait la chanson'?

Marina · 08/02/2006 13:58

Why, Pupuce, she says VERY nosily indeed...

pupuce · 08/02/2006 13:59

Marina.... do you not remember "Born to be alive" by Patrick Hernandez (back up singer was Madonna!!!)... then again Johnny Haliday is actually Belgian, so is Plastic Bertrand, Axelle red, Mauranne, etc

OP posts:
IlanaK · 08/02/2006 14:01

Ah! I see - well nice to see you here.

pupuce · 08/02/2006 14:02

Parce que je forme des doulas pendant les 15ers jours de Mars et je ne peux prendre de coup de téléphone de BF counsellors.

Frenchie- connais pas tout ces groupes dont tu parles
