I bought a shopping trolley..........

does that make me an official mumsy mum??

I always swore I wouldn't thought they were for "old" people - but fed up of breaking my back and arms carry heavy bags of shopping in the cold from Morrisons so bought myself a nice little shopping trolley - its the flip-top one on this page - but it's in maroon/burgundy rather than that ghastly red.

Will my kids hate me for it when they're old enough to realise I'm dragging a shopping trolley behind me

I noticed M&S are doing them now. I'm very tempted.

spursmum · 29/12/2005 20:35

I thought you meant you bought one for your kids!! My ds got one for Xmas and he got so many comments of how good he was helping with the food shopping!

daisy1999 · 29/12/2005 20:35

yes and yes
always thought they'd be useful and have been praying for them to be become fashionable but so far Mrs Beckham has steadfastly refused to use one

rummum · 29/12/2005 20:35

I really missed the pushchair when the kids outgrew it. I threatened to get one of these but never had the bottle... ;)

hunkermunker · 29/12/2005 20:35

I saw them in M&S too, Moo - and after going shopping 8.5m pregnant without DS's pushchair the other day... Bloody hell, did I used to carry what I bought?! With my arms?!

Blossomgoodwill · 29/12/2005 20:36

Sorry HRH but I would honestly rather die than be seen with one of those.

Your kids will hate you and you may notice them charging off infront whenever trolley is around. However I do understand if you are having to carry it it must be hard.

MarsyChristmas · 29/12/2005 20:37

I have a cow print Rolster and I love it! Lots of mums round here have them in all sorts of colours. Saves your back! Fab!!!!!!!!!!!

daisy1999 · 29/12/2005 20:37

omg this has turned into OAPNet

xmasmcmudding · 29/12/2005 20:38

My mum had one while we were growing up and she was pretty trendy (and still is) but I was mortified then. ALthough she can't drive and that was her excuse.

Am dreading the loss of the buggy though....

Jasnem · 29/12/2005 20:38

I've had one for a while.. I bought it when I was delivering catalogues, but am not working now, and do use it for shopping.

My kids have walked back from the shops with me enough times to appreciate why I use it, but at 5 & 6 aren't worried about their image yet. I'm 7 months pregnant and have no car, so if we want food it's the only option at the moment!

pucca · 29/12/2005 20:39

I wouldn't be seen with one..sorry

daisy1999 · 29/12/2005 20:39

I bet someone has one of those fold up waterproof plastic hat things in their pocket - own up

xmasmcmudding · 29/12/2005 20:39

why don't they make them for baby car seats?????

Just for that back-breaking carry from the pavement to the doctor's surgery????

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Blossomgoodwill · 29/12/2005 20:40

Must be hard if you don't have a car.

Jasnem · 29/12/2005 20:41

Try walking half a mile with 2 dawdling kids and a weeks shopping in your hands before you say never...

daisy1999 · 29/12/2005 20:43

still say never that's what tesco on line is for

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 29/12/2005 20:43

my mum had one when i was growing up, and then online shopping was invented!

i would LOVE one but could anyone see a 23yr old with one? and TBH i have 3 buggys that have rather handy handles and baskets... not ready just yet, but give me a few years and ill be there with you!

myrrhthamoo · 29/12/2005 20:43

I think you have to live in London to get away with it. In Cheshire they are definitely zip-up, fur-lined ankle boots and rain bonnet territory. Know what you mean about heavy shopping though, hunker - you forget how much weight you can load on the back of a Maclaren!

Blossomgoodwill · 29/12/2005 20:43

daisy - lol

xmasmcmudding · 29/12/2005 20:44

jessicanadrebeccasmummy - lol - my mum is the quenn of online shopping - now I know why!!!

xmasmcmudding · 29/12/2005 20:44

queen!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 29/12/2005 20:46

lol... even now mum has gone (died last year aged 47) dad still swears by internet shopping - he doesnt drive and HATES town, so if anything little he needs he uses the local co-op other than that it is all done online - im the same - sainsburys are delivering on Tueday with a months worth for me!

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 29/12/2005 20:46

Jess - I'm 26 !

I used to shop online - but it's much cheaper to shop at the market, wilko's and morrisons than to shop online these days. If I've got the pushchair with me I can carry some of the weeks shopping in there - but not all - and if I use it have to make 3 or 4 trips just to do the weeks shopping. It wouldn't be so bad if my family ate like a normal family - but I'm sure I could feed an 'average' family of 6/7 on the food I buy for 4 (with the children being 2 and 5 ) - god knows what it's going to be like when they're older and their appetites are even bigger EEEEEEK

bless... the kids are too young to care! And hopefully things will pick up in time and you can get back to ordering online!

i do one BIG monthly shop online and little bits are as and when i need them (milk/bread/fruit/veg) and i usually get DH to sit in with the girls while i nip out alone - my 5 minutes to myself too!
