Can you help me find a new car?

Yet again my car order has fallen through, so I think we may well cancel the Smart order - this is both the Smart fortwo and the forfour that have gone wrong and the service at the garage was appalling. Infact the man organising our order was saked today

They have offered me a blue Smart forfour diesel.

But I am in two minds about using them after their incompetence.

So, what eslse could I get?

I like something a bit funky maybe.

[past cars have been Ford Ka2 (when first out), Smart (when first out), Audi Cabriolet, Golf GTi, VW Beetle]

It's the second car so not got as big a budget as I have had in past.

I have up to about £9k I guess. Have the Beetle to trade in.

Can be new or nearly new.

If two seater (which I love!) has to have ability to turn airbag off.

If four seater has to have Isofix (or option of) in the back.

What to get?!

Would an MX 5 make you smile, hula ?

hub2dee · 12/12/2005 19:10

BTW - is it worth going to a less incompetent Smart dealer, LOL ?

(If your heart is set on it, it seems a pity not to get one IYSWIM).

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:10

mx5's are meant to be great but they're a bit dull, aren't they ?

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 12/12/2005 19:11

I had an MX5 great little cars. What about a Nissan Figaro, If I didn't have my dog I'd get one of those. Very retro, stylish, cheap to run.

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 12/12/2005 19:13

forgot to put this in

hub2dee · 12/12/2005 19:13

I think the figaro is a great car, MM, if hula fancies 'different' LOL

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:14

wat is a figaro when it's at home ?!

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:14

oh I see.

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 12/12/2005 19:14

see link Nom

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:15

I'd guess that hula wants a few more modern safety features

hub2dee · 12/12/2005 19:17

I know nothing about the figaro aside from shape...

Does it not have airbags etc. ? (it's a current Nissan design, right ? I would guess it's loaded with bits but may well be talking pants).

katzglitterytree · 12/12/2005 19:19

on the britax webpage it lists all the cars with isofix

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 12/12/2005 19:19

They look retro (50's)but I think they're about 8 or 9 years old or so. I believe there were a batch of 20,000 made in Japan and you had to have a lottery ticket to buy one they were so popular.

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:20

is it ?! Gawd, it looks like a car from the era of the Hillman Imp.

hub2dee · 12/12/2005 19:21

That's the idea ndp, LOL.

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:21

Produced between 1987 & 1991 according to a nissan figaro specialist site.

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 12/12/2005 19:22

LOL you beat me to it H2D.
OOOOh I lusted after a Hillman Imp when I was a kid, that and a Triumph Vitesse!

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:23

bloody awful, IMO.

hub2dee · 12/12/2005 19:26

I think refreshingly different, ndp.

Maybe not quite to my taste, but come on: nothing else (current) looks like it (I guess you would argue for good reason, LOL).

Modern cars are so borrrrrrrrrrrring IMHO.

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:30

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one hub

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 19:31

FWIW, it isn't 'different', it's a rehashing of a 40 year old styling idea !

Hulababy · 12/12/2005 19:33

Maybe something a little newer!

Small, sporty 2 seater would be fab - if no air bag in front

Do I really need to go down realms of practical?

So annoyed with Smart at moment, and only dealership in Sheffield. Just fed up with them.

\linkwww.whatcar.com/car-review-pictures.aspx?RT=738\Peugeot 107} or Citroen C1 - Which look like the same car?

Furball · 12/12/2005 19:43

oh dear didn't preview! Peugeot 107

hub2dee · 12/12/2005 19:43

Yep, ndp: "retro"

But many old designs have proven to be classics - timlessly elegant / special (not sure I'd try and argue the Figaro's side there, LOL) but the old minis or E-types etc. float my boat.
