2nd cycle and attempt.

Am I missing something?

it's all in the pinch and twist i feel - twist it once it's in to be sure it's totally unfolded and in place properly, and pinch and twist it to break the seal before pulling it out.

purpleknittingmum · 05/08/2011 20:02

right reading the mooncup size A is 46mm wide so I should need a medium. Think I may get one sometime but not sure what colour to get! No violet ones in stock just now!

redheadbedhead · 05/08/2011 20:02

i wanted one for ages and when i finally got one and tried it out, i couldn't get it out!!!!! for ages!!! it was utterly humiliating because in the end my HUSBAND had to get it out!!!!!

Awful. too scared to go back.

SilveryMoon · 05/08/2011 20:06

I've decided to stop using mine because I've been having some irregular bleeding for a few months.
Swampy Love the look of the meluna cups. How would you know what size you'd need?
When I get my issue sorted, I think I'll get some Smile

MorganMindy · 05/08/2011 20:09

The Meluna looks interesting, I need to replace my mooncup.

I've been dying to tell someone this story and I think MN is the only place that will appreciate it...

Was driving down to France last week and as is typical with me I came on the day before. A few hours driving in France and time for a toilet stop, obviously also time to empty my mooncup. I was quite heavy so it was a bit messy... and slippery... and I dropped it down the toilet Sad

Not only did I drop it down the toilet but as I turned to see if it was retreivable I set off the automatic flush Shock

And that was it, the mooncup gone, never to be seen again. Unless it blocked the system and was fished out by a bemused French plumber!

Must admit that I was giggling to myself for ages as it's such a ridiculous thing to happen.

So... tell me more about the MeLuna... how do you know what size you need and why buy more than one?

swampster · 05/08/2011 20:11

SM, have you tried a menstrual sponge? They are lovely and gentle to use and really absorbent. A million times nicer than a tampon.

purpleknittingmum · 05/08/2011 20:12

Oh MorganMindy! Did you have anything with you to use instead? I still have old rouge tampons in my make-up bag but not used them at all since I used the mooncup. I think I have set off the automatic flush more than once but thankfully not flushed anything away!

CountBapula · 05/08/2011 20:13

I just got one and I really like it, though I do find it tricky to get out.

Seasoned Mooncuppers - I presume you wash your hands before taking it out. Do you get Hmm looks washing your hands before you go into the cubicle in a public loo? Especially if you go in with someone you don't know that well, like a colleague. What's the etiquette?

CountBapula · 05/08/2011 20:15

PMSL at MorganMindy Grin

SilveryMoon · 05/08/2011 20:16

Count I have never noticed anyone looking at me funny for washing my hands.
I take some flushable wipes in with me (in my bag) to wipe my hands before coming out to wash them.

Swampy I have seen the sponges, I am interested to try them, but as I am pretty much losing some blood constantly, I'm sticking to towels and liners for now until my gp can decide how to tackle this.

swampster · 05/08/2011 20:16

I like having all sizes for different stages of my period. There is no need and a medium would be perfectly adequate for my needs.

I must confess an interest in that I would like to start selling reusable menstrual products because I love them so much. I'm really cheesed off that it has taken me so long to discover them. I've had a good 30 years of horrible periods which could have been so much nicer with washable pads, sponges and cups.

swampster · 05/08/2011 20:18

SM please PM or FB me your address...

MorganMindy · 05/08/2011 20:21

I'm glad it made you laugh, thought it was a classic MN tale!!

Purple, the mooncup can't cope when I'm very heavy so I was wearing a pad as backup anyway and had spares with me. So was fine until I could get to the supermarket and stock up on tampons.

jenniec79 · 05/08/2011 20:21

Out of interest, when can you go back to mooncup after a baby?

SilveryMoon · 05/08/2011 20:24

jennie I'd assume it would be ok when it's a true period........you could always ask the hv

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/08/2011 20:26

I don't think the hvs round here will have heard of them

Lol at morgandmindy. Oh dear. I can imagine your face.

Nagoo · 05/08/2011 20:36

I did blame my mooncup for my coil coming out, but now I know that it was me :( rather than the cup.

Those meluna ones look easier to get out, but worried the ball or ring would irritate as I had to cut all the stem off my mooncup.

Good point birds - hadn't thought of it like that. It's just that it requires a fair amount of, erm, rummaging, so have been washing hands first, but have only used it at home so far.

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/08/2011 21:01

It doesn't move around as much as get sucked up.

purpleknittingmum · 05/08/2011 21:12

Glad you were OK MorganMindy! At least you didn't have to make some sort of emergency phone call from the loo for supplies!

PeopleCallMeTricky · 05/08/2011 21:22

My mooncup works fine, my periods have been lighter and I used to get a sort of irritated fanny thing, which I don't get now I'm not using tampons Smile, but I do find that I have to "birth" it out when I want to change it, it's not within reach IYSWIM. Anyone else have this?

PeopleCallMeTricky · 05/08/2011 21:23

Oh and I meant to say to the op, you shouldn't have to reach up the sides of the cup to remove it, just pinch the bottom to release the suction, then twist a bit and pull out.

swampster · 05/08/2011 21:40

And bear down on it to help push it out while pinching the sides.
