can someone remind me how to knock up a shepherd costume

I know it involves towels............

Miaou · 29/11/2005 09:46

dressing gown (preferably stripey)

Teatowel secured with fabric headband (or piece of material, but it helps if it's stretchy)

Crook (borrow a walking stick)

Optional toy lamb

puff · 29/11/2005 09:47

hurrah!

thank you

Miaou · 29/11/2005 09:47

remember to dress child in clothes underneath in case of gaping (been there, seen it happen )

MrsBadger · 29/11/2005 12:42

...and the best thing to use to keep the teatowel on is the leg of an old pair of tights - stretchy and easy to tie

SoupDragon · 29/11/2005 12:52

And, as you will all no doubt remember, the leg of an old pair of tights is also ideal for strapping your cordless phone to your head so you can carry on a conversation and do the housework.

Enid · 29/11/2005 12:53

can I recommend NO teatowels for sheperds

my church banned them and we had stretchy fabric headbands only last year and they looked just as good without the attendant stress levels

PeachyPlumFairy · 29/11/2005 13:17

If you don't have the dressing gown, we got a stripy linen shirt (grandad collared but not essential) from Oxfam for a quid and ripped sleeves off, t-shirt underneath and trousers... looks fine.

puff · 29/11/2005 14:42

lol soupy

what's with the teatowel stress Enid?

Enid · 29/11/2005 15:36

they fall off aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the time

puff · 29/11/2005 17:09

I should know all this, having organised a fair few nativity plays at school in my time

NotQuiteCockney · 29/11/2005 17:11

Our school recommends no walking sticks etc, as they are used in battles. Which are not really part of the traditionnal nativity play, I think?

NotQuiteCockney · 29/11/2005 17:12

Oooh, and thank you Soupy, for the shepherd costume! Showed up yesterday, works beautifully.

marthamoo · 29/11/2005 17:13

Have just been informed ds1 needs black trousers and a black top too - are they all doing the same bloody play this year or what?
