Keeping baby's feet warm - does any type of sock or 'bootie' stay on ?

I want something to put on dd's feet when we go out. I don't want a shoe or anything 'shaped' that might cramp her feet but everything else I've tried including all kinds of socks or loose booties just get pulled off or fall off within minutes.

She is 10 months and I don't want anything mega-girly.

Any ideas ?

Tights. They're the only things I found that stayed on.

hoxtonchick · 11/11/2005 20:18

ditto tights

NannyL · 11/11/2005 20:18

IMO no nothing really stays on, but i do think the baby GAP socks stay on slightly better than any other socks!

or you could have those trouser with feet on the end so they cant fall off...

or snowsuits where the booties are bottoned on to the bottom!

I think the fact that these products even exist prove that things DONT stay on babies feet!

Bozza · 11/11/2005 20:20

Only thing that will work is tights. Put them under trousers as well as dresses. If it was cold enough you could also put socks on - it would be harder to get the socks off if they were over tights.

Witchycat · 11/11/2005 20:27

Thanks. I do put her in tights ocassionally but she's really into crawling rapidly at the moment and most of her dresses seem to get in her way.

Also dp can never be bothered with tights (or socks come to think of it) but he's the one that needs to keep her feet warm most as he looks after her while I'm at work mon/tue and he likes taking her out for walks in the back pack/baby carrier thing.

Wonder if I could sew elastic in her socks to link them together & up through her trousers the way kids in the 70's used to have mittens on elastic !

Tights - I put tights on ds3 last winter when he was 4 months old! Norty Mummy!

Witchycat · 11/11/2005 20:28

I'm joking about the elastic (just in case anyone took that seriously). I'm not that cruel.

Gobbledigook - Lol at tights on your ds. Were they pink?

Daisy Roots booties are fab.

Elasticated around the top and they have sheepskin wool in them so you can make them bigger/smaller and whats more I got an e-mail from MN saying they're offering members discount.

WigWamBam · 11/11/2005 20:30

Tights under trousers works too - I found trousers much easier than dresses when dd was crawling. Kept her warmer as well.

Witchycat · 11/11/2005 20:35

These look like they might work - thanks Nbg.

Might just have to try the tights under trousers thing - sounds like a good idea.

Starchild stay on really well and keep the socks on

jstbcs · 11/11/2005 21:01

I put DD1 (3) socks on DD2 (5m)

find that works, as thy come up to her knee!

... most of the time!

biglips · 11/11/2005 21:03

i find big long socks to her knees is hard for baba to take off but if she wears short socks they come off in seconds.

(she is wearing the next age up in her socks as they are nice and big for her BIG feets)

biglips · 11/11/2005 21:05

or any shoes that "tied" at the front (normal shoes with ribbons laces from woolies) as the velcro shoes are CRAP! as DD knows how to pull them off but with the tied on shoes she cant get them off ... see ive done my homework!!

hornbag · 11/11/2005 21:47

Daisy Roots have worked for both of ours, even when I've bought a size too big to get maximum use out of them.

Janh · 11/11/2005 21:50

I think Daisyroots had only just arrived when my last had cold feet, but he did have some crocheted things with suede soles which tied on; also corduroy boot things with elasticated ankles, what were they called?

Janh · 11/11/2005 21:51

Padders!!!

Do they still make them?

starandsnowshaker · 11/11/2005 21:52

i had this prob with dd then her auntie bought her a pair of slipper type things from mothercare they are pink with a rabbit on the front they are fab keep her socks on and her feet nice and toasty

bee3 · 11/11/2005 22:20

I found that Baby Gap socks were the only socks that actually stayed on - expensive, but worth it! We also had a pair of plain brown Star Baby soft leather shoes that had a toggle on to tighten them, and they were brilliant - 6m - 12m, and they were what ds wore when he started crawling and walking as well. HTH

WickedWestCountryLass · 11/11/2005 22:39

Tights?
Gap socks?

sassy · 12/11/2005 11:05

I have exactly this problem, and laminate floors (cold/slippy).

Last week I bought some blue lambskin booties from TChibo -£4.99 bargain! They just have a tie around the ankle but stay on beautifully and are gorgeously snug. I really recommend them.

Otherwise - tights!

Skyler · 12/11/2005 11:17

I always swore by Gap triple roll socks but I am disappointed by the last lot that I bought (in bulk) for dd's 1 and 2. They don't seem to have the elastic at the top now . I thought it might be a fault but they are all like it in all of the colours and both sizes. Has anyone else noticed this?
So Daisy Roots get a thumbs up then? I will have a look at their website.

Janh · 12/11/2005 11:22

The Tchibo lambskin bootees!

Tchibo is amazing, isn't it?

zippitippitoes · 12/11/2005 11:22
