All positives and negatives needed please.

My dyson is pants. Same part keeps breaking, and whilst it is replaced under warantee every 6-9 months I am fed up with it and have been.looking for alternatives. Henry seems popular on here...is it really that good. No pets but 4 of us have long hair

The Turbo has a charcoal filter in it and wouldn't work without the bags, but the standard Henry works find without a bag. DH has a standard one for heavy duty DIY projects and he doesn't use the bags.

I've had a Henry Hound for 4 yrs now and it's still going strong. The electric brush bit (in the head) that comes with it is fabulous for getting hairs off carpets. Prior to that we'd been through 3 or 4 Dysons and a Vax. None of them lasted as long. My only complaint about it is that it is quite heavy (only an issue because I'm pg atm). I bought an extra long hose for it though so I can do the stairs with it sat at the bottom instead of bringing it up with me as I go IYSWIM.

myron · 12/05/2011 18:03

I've been through 1 Dyson (lasted less than 2 yrs) and my Vax (10 yrs) has just given up the ghost. I was about to order the Miele Cat & Dog when I spotted this. 600+ reviews is not to be sniffed at and it's 5x cheaper. I'm collecting it tomorrow so will let you know if it's pants or not!

OnlyWantsOne · 12/05/2011 18:08

I hate my dyson. Hate it

tassisssss · 12/05/2011 18:09

I had a dyson and hated it.

I LOVE Henry.

CandiceMariePratt · 12/05/2011 18:11

I have a Hetty, she is gorgeous

spiderslegs · 12/05/2011 18:46

Henry & I have an on-going love affair, he's never let me down, there's nothing he can't cope with & he gives me a cheery smile whislt we get the job done.

Have had Dysons & Vacs, they couldn't cope with the shit I threw at them.

Not Henry, he's in it for the long-haul.

OnlyWantsOne · 12/05/2011 19:06

Is there any difference between hetty an Henry or just colour?

transferbalance · 12/05/2011 19:07

surprised at all the Dyson-haters

although I have a Henry Wink

pinkhebe · 12/05/2011 19:08

I have had a henry for 14 years Shock

Hetty is just pink. I have a green Henry

CointreauVersial · 12/05/2011 19:14

I have a Hoover which is absolutely rubbish, permanently on the blink, and will be going to the tip as soon as it goes wrong again (which will be any day soon).

While it was at the menders recently (again) I borrowed a Henry from my mate who runs a cleaning company.

It was fab! I don't even like cylinders, but Henry won me over. I love the fact that I could do the whole downstairs from one plug (the Hoover cable is about 2 feet long), and it really "sucked". My cleaning mate says they are bombproof. In fact, our builders have one too.

I have heard good things about Miele, but there is a limit as to how much I want to spend on something that sucks dirt off my floor.

Bumperlicioso · 12/05/2011 19:17

Love Henry. Often used industrially and in hotels etc which should tell you something.

RightUpMyRue · 12/05/2011 19:22

I recently bought a Henry. I do like it, it is good but what I will say of it though is that it can be very hard work, impossible in fact, to use, with the brushes out, on my long pile carpet. I want to use the brushes to pick up all the grot and cat hairs but I can't because it's impossible to move it with the brushes out. It still does a good job with the brushes in and, obviously, I can use it with the brushes out on the hard floors and it's very effective. I am glad I bought it but I might have looked around a bit more if i had known that it wouldn't work on longer pile carpets with the brushes extended.

Panzee · 12/05/2011 19:27

Love my Henry. Only cost £90. How much are other brands? It sucked up my dressing gown cord too. :o

nometime · 12/05/2011 19:27

Had my Dyson for about a year before it died. Henry is now 9 years old and still going STRONG. Enough said.

RightUMR I think you can get a special pet hair brush/tool - I might be dreaming this (!) but it's worth giving them a call.

ArthurMcAffertyandhisCat · 12/05/2011 19:28

I was delighted when my Dyson went "phut" as it was heavy and hard to use and kept breaking. Bought a Henry three weeks ago and have done more vacuuming since then than I've done in the past three years. I even did my mattress this morning. Superb and cheery.

surreygirl · 12/05/2011 19:33

My old Dyson was shit too - haven't got a Henry as have a Bosch which is ok but will go for a Henry when the Bosch packs up!

WorzselMaamage · 12/05/2011 19:37

I hate my Dyson.. HATE IT! As soon as it finally dies I'll be singing hallelujah buying a Henry. We use them at work (nursing home) and they are FAB.

Mollymax · 12/05/2011 19:40

Quick question about Using Henry bagless.
Can you wash the white filter which is attached to the lid.
I too love my Henry, he follows me around with a big smile.
My dd loves to hitch a ride on him.

FriedSpamButty · 12/05/2011 19:40

DP works for a dust and fume extraction company. He and his colleagues have Henrys for the clean up at the client's premises after a bag change/service/installation or whatever of the extremely sophisticated and very expensive extraction equipment. Which should tell you something.

I also had a Dyson and thought it was shite! I've got a Panasonic cylinder vac at the moment and I think it sucks stuff up from the foundations through the carpet and the gaps in the floorboards. It's fab!

bamboobutton · 12/05/2011 19:42

my hetty has it in for me. she is determined to topple over at every opportunity until every single bone in my feet are smashed to smithereens.

apart from that i looooove her.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/05/2011 19:46

We have Hetty after 16 years (?) of dysons, we love her. I have liked the dysons when I had carpet but don't need that now.

She's great value and really sturdy.

OnlyWantsOne · 13/05/2011 12:28

plotting to kill the dyson and pretend to DP that we now news to go out and buy a Henry

trixymalixy · 13/05/2011 12:35

My cleaners always used to moan about our dyson, so when it went bang I asked them what they wanted me to replace it with.

They asked for a Henry and I was surprised how good it was. We now have 2, one for house and one for DIY etc.

TheVisitor · 13/05/2011 12:39

Henry is the God of vacuum cleaners. He copes with 3 cats, 4 kids (2 with long hair), my long hair and my builder DH. And he stays smiling.
