like the waterproof fishermans style - they were around in the 70's, bright yellow or blue sort of waxed cotton or rubber. Have found Boden do a version for £44 and glt (why is the camouflage look in??)but I was hoping to pay around £20.

Letterbox do them.

shrub · 14/10/2005 12:27

thanks Nbg - just looked do you mean the shiny pvc ones? trying to find a plain non-shiny one. thanks for the info though

Ah yes they are.
The ones with the flowers on and stuff.

I'm sure I've seen them somewhere.
Have you tried Next?

shrub · 14/10/2005 12:35

just looked on next website - no raincoats

Brittany

seriously though Petit bateau prob do them but they are hideously expensive

Nbg · 14/10/2005 12:38

How old is he?

I've just checked Mothercare, they don't have them.

Marina · 14/10/2005 12:41

Would Milletts have anything, maybe?

shrub · 14/10/2005 12:42

Enid - ah yes petit bateau probably will, I use to get some of their stuff back in the old days when I was still working. Surely noone can be as expensive as boden though?
Nbg - Thanks, he is 5, I was also going to get one for ds2 (2 years) we have got cagouls but they're not waterproof so I don't really see the point of them!

Enid · 14/10/2005 12:43

if you want something waterproof then milletts is good as marina says, or somewhere like muddy puddles.

WigWamBam · 14/10/2005 12:48

I'd try an outdoor clothing store like Millets or Oswald Bailey, or Muddy Puddles .

teeavee · 14/10/2005 12:52

Oh, shrub, my ds has one just like that! It's a hand-me-down from my dp's cousin, and it is mega-cute, with navy blue stitching and a fleece lining.... I'm tempted to post a photo of him wearing it!

unfortunately, there is no label to indicate the make (just looked) - probably came from Leclerc or somewhere like that. Goes really well with the ubiquitous breton stripy top!

Marina · 14/10/2005 12:55

Petit Bateau in the UK is subject to a really disgusting mark-up which does make it more expensive than Boden IMO
You can buy their stuff in the French equivalent of Asda FGS, I don't know why they are so up themselves for the UK market (well, actually, I think I do, but nonetheless...)

Marina · 14/10/2005 12:57

do Togz do raincoats for older children? We have baby and toddler all in ones from them which manage to be trad and jaunty at the same time, and would withstand the fiercest deluge. Tellingly they are sold in outdoor pursuits shops as well as in rinkydink catalogues...

shrub · 14/10/2005 13:00

wigwambam - thanks, really like the 'sweetie long coat' so might get that for my ds2
teavee - sounds lovely, where or what is leclerc?

teeavee · 14/10/2005 13:02

Here is the site for Guy Cotten - The man who can for all self-repecting Breton fishermen! They have a children's line too - and this is also available in yellow

The site seems to be in French only though...
How old is your boy?

They also have a really cute 'lighthouse keeper's coat, in...yes... you've guessed it, blue and white stripes with pictures of lighthouses in them. They sell those in a shop 'round the corner from me!

Marina · 14/10/2005 13:04

Tres joli Teeavee mais ca coute combien M Cotten?

teeavee · 14/10/2005 13:10

Oh, bum, didn't see that - I shouldn't think they're very cheap...

HOWEVER,...

There is an extremely similar yellow version for sale on French for an 18month child here

teeavee · 14/10/2005 13:14

go on ebay france and type in 'cire jaune'

shrub · 14/10/2005 13:16

yes thats the type! Wish I could speak french as i'm finding 'guy cotton' a tad difficult to navigate

If you've got a Decathlon store near you then they're great for this kind of stuff, hang on a sec
here try this link hopefully it should take you to their website, unfortunately you can't buy online tho'

teeavee · 14/10/2005 13:21

the one on french ebay is also from Decathlon

try entering "yellow fishermen's coat" on ebay uk???

Lucycat · 14/10/2005 13:26

OK so their website is crap, but the store itself is great - just like a French hypermarket. All the price labels are in euros as well as pounds!

teeavee · 14/10/2005 13:28

Yep, decathlon is a great shop, very good quality and reasonable too, - my FIL's all time favourite shop too! Didn't know they had them in the UK

Lucycat · 14/10/2005 13:30

oooh I've got that jacket! mine is also about 18mths and cost me about £4! this was a few years ago, but it's lasted both dd's!

shrub · 14/10/2005 13:31

just been trying to find coats on the decathalon website - all i can find it beach/surfware? i'll phone them
the french ebay seems the way to go - if only i could speak french! nothing on uk ebay apart from one for 11-12 year old. though i guess he could grow into it!
