Mens perspective on them shaving down below. recommendations?

DH is a bit hairy down there and wants to tidy up his bush. Whenever I shave the itching drives me crazy so I just tidy up with scissors.

Can men recommend a shaver for the pubic area which doesnt cause itching and discomfort. Personal experience type of thing.
I've looked at Manscaping UK and there is a nice razor I could get as a christmas present, but I don't want to waste a lot of money it its ditched because of the itching.
Bit of a weird question I know, but nowhere or noone else to ask!

Surely he could just use a bog standard trimmer like this

Set it to number 1 or whatever then he gets an all over trim without the itch that he'll get if totally bald?

DaisyandSimeon · 07/11/2021 10:44

@JaniieJones also something he can use in the shower.

Any waterproof beard trimmer is fine just trim don't shave

Pky45 · 07/11/2021 15:58

I’ve got one of these

www.braunshop.co.uk/9-in-1-all-in-one-trimmer-5-mgk5280-black-blue/12519349.html

Start with the longest move to the shortest, as others say, trim not shave, I’ve trimmed up once in 50 years

Freddy12 · 07/11/2021 17:46

Go smooth? Shave then zap with an IPL
machine
IPLworks great on dark hair we both use ours and now no hair or re growth

I wouldn't recommend spending money on the inflated prices charged by Manscaping. I don't think they are any different to a great many other shavers. I have a Phillips One for trimming my pubes, but use a wet razor for shaving the scrotum and base of the shaft of the penis. A quick once over in the shower every couple of days does the trick, with a trim of the main bush every few weeks.

I have been shaving my bits for over twenty years and have neither itching, nor trouble with ingrown hairs.

altmember · 08/11/2021 05:37

I just use a cheap ladies razor (supermarket own brand). It's a bit daunting the first few times you take a blade to your scrotum, but gets easier after a few goes. Takes 30 seconds extra in the shower, never had any problems.

AverageGuy · 08/11/2021 09:51

I use a Phillips OneBlade. I started with a trim, but soon moved on to shaving.

It keeps everything neat and tidy.

narkyspirit · 13/11/2021 09:15

I decided to have a tidy up down below and bought beard trimmer used that for a bit just for trimming, a girlfriend at the time said why not shave properly. I suggested she did it for me, brilliant night after that..

i've been single for a while, Covid hasn't helped but got together with a old friend in the summer and decided to have a tidy up below, in the supermarket to get some disposable razors saw some hair removal cream (Veet). right ohh give that whirl, being male I didn't read the instructions completely (to be expected). Applied said cream below waited for a minute supposed to be three!!! at two minutes, ohhh S**t this stings quite a bit........ in to the shower frantically trying to wash it off!! Got rid of it, fair enough there bald, but hells bells they where sore for a few days.

I'm back to a razor now!!!!

SparklingStars10 · 13/11/2021 09:55

This review of Veet by a man is hilarious, having just read it again, I nearly peed myself 😂

This response is a blend of lighthearted and accurate. I’m not male, but being a woman of a certain age (early 40s), l’ve been asked to assist with a few manscape tidy ups in my time. I’m also told it makes something look larger but l wouldn’t know!!!

For starters, l am amazed at the number of men who do absolutely nothing. Please, tidy up! At least treat yourself to a small (beard?) comb and use regularly, whatever style you opt for, in addition use shampoo and conditioner below when you wash your hair. There is a huge difference between natural and a potentially sweaty shambles.

Requirements: One man (minimum) Shampoo. Good quality hair conditioner. Small comb. Razor. Hair dressing scissors. Razor with new blade. Optional: Restraints in case of wriggling/fidgeting.

From my experience, it’s easy to get a man to sit still, when you sit in front of him, brandishing both sharp scissors and a razor. Take the man 😂, remove pants and Ignore the stricken look.

Shampoo and condtion the man. Comb through hair when wet and with conditioner in place, use hair dressing scissors and comb to remove surplus hair. Then rinse, put man back in pants and see what he thinks after a few days. Either way instruct to comb daily. At least this will give you a less sweaty one (man).

Then, take said man and see what he would like. He may opt to stay like this with regular trims, this is the low maintenance option.

If he opts for all off, you have option of wet shave, in which case use a fresh sharp blade and hair conditioner so the razor glides. Ignore any fearful looks and absolutely do not tolerate any fidgeting.

Option 2 is a Ladyshave type trimmer preferably with a foil head. Instruct man to buy his own. No loaning, their hair is courser, especially if there has been minimal grooming.

Veet Sensitive is your other option. Do a spot test as per instructions, no short cuts or your man can become noisy and unco-operative. If there is no bad reaction you can proceed and “coax” the hair with a razor as opposed to the plastic thingy provided.

While you are at it, you might as well sort out his underarms too. Easier for him to apply deodorant properly and they smell less sweaty that way.

If your man has been co-operative with minimum of fuss you might allow him one drink.

Take next man and repeat as above 😂😂😂!

It is good to give them a minimal taste of what women go through and at the very least they should cook your dinner as thanks.

Do you have a name for your manscaping parlour, Starlight?

FabulousMrFifty · 14/11/2021 08:21

What a palaver from Starlight, beard trimmer is all that’s needed, upstairs beard 1st

StarlightLady · 14/11/2021 08:26

@FabulousMrFifty - Palaver? I did say it was lighthearted. 😂😂😂 It was meant to be a fun post with a few serious pointers such as the Veet spot test! Lighten up good people, it’s Sunday! 🤦‍♀️

Whatliesbeneath707 · 14/11/2021 11:29

Love it @StarlightLady! I like your bold approach 😉😂
I don’t know what you do as a career, but you could definitely start up a new business with your suggestion. Think it would be very popular and lucrative.

StarlightLady · 14/11/2021 11:38

@Whatliesbeneath707 - I don’t have an appropriate first aid qualification, not sitting still can result in injury, 🤭 so l’ll keep on with the day job!

Estherpologist · 14/11/2021 12:58

@StarlightLady A comb? Are you serious? I know there's a bizarre fetish amongst hipsters for beard topiary these days, but who on earth combs their pubes? Life's too short!

And you forgot Option 4: If you want men to taste of what women go through (and be perfectly stubble free for weeks on end ... hmmmm), surely you should insist on them getting waxed?

altmember · 14/11/2021 14:17

@StarlightLady
You're massively over complicating this. No need for shampoo and conditioner (blow drying is beneficial though), just regular showering. I'll assume you're joking about combing if not all the rest, it's unnecessary and no benefit at all. Men's pubes are no coarser than a woman's.

No need for veet, a razor is perfectly fine, safe and preferable. And definitely do not go near a man's junk with hair trimming scissors, they're far more likely to cause injury than a razor.

You don't have to go completely bald with a razor, they work well for thinning and shortening, in fact they seem to be the best way (as above, avoid scissors).

A bloke should be able to sort himself out, without needing someone else to strap him down and do it to him. That would terrify me, just as I'm sure most women wouldn't let a bloke take scissors or a razor to their nether regions. Oh, and you'd be amazed at the number of women who also 'do nothing' down below.

SparklingStars10 · 14/11/2021 14:57

It seems @StarlightLady’s post has been taken quite literally and as she said it was light-hearted.
I personally like a man to have done some manscaping before I go down on him, I don’t mean bold, just trimmed, just the same as I do some ladyscaping, no one likes having to pull pubes out of their mouth.

FabulousMrFifty · 14/11/2021 15:33

I fully understood the post was meant to be light hearted, but it just wasn’t funny, and yes I’m neatly trimmed, no stray pubes here.

StarlightLady · 14/11/2021 17:25

As for waxing, l hadn’t forgotten it, most men would run a mile! 💥

Partner has a hot bath, wet shave in bath with Gillette razor, then the most important bit, exfoliate

Anotherbloke1 · 12/12/2021 10:06

Freddy12 which IPL do you use? I've always used Veet or Nair but interested to see how IPL is.

Littleminx1 · 12/12/2021 11:20

@Freddy12 can you confirm which one you use as me and my partner would like to try
