Whats the best way to remove hair from private parts apart from visiting a salon?

I used to just shave. Best after a hot bath or steamy shower and I found using DH shaving gel good. Frankly men's 5 blade razor was better as well than women's . However it is a routine job to keep up depending on whether you are dark or blonde.

I believe there is some veet equivalent type product that is more sensitive and can be used below but I saw mixed reports.

Frankly, I got into having my bikini line waxed during routine beauticians appointments and she mentioned that she could see I was getting waxed and then shaving the rest on occasions and just matter of fact mentioned it and suggested it would be better for her to wax exactly what I was doing instead of waxing bikini line only...as she said...she does several full waxes every day so I tried. This was a few years ago but went for it, first couple of times strange and an "ouch" aspect but now just totally used to it and is much nicer and smooth for most of the time although you need some regrowth before next appointment. I now prefer being hair free

During lockdown though I returned to the razor and found it a bit of a pain to keep up

cosmicbabe · 10/06/2021 16:15

I have a Brazilian every 3-4 weeks. During lockdown I then waxed myself with Hot wax. Worked well. Wouldn't let a razor anywhere near that area!!

I do shave my legs as that hurts more than a Brazilian lol!

Showgirl38 · 10/06/2021 16:35

Woo woo hair removal if you don't want to wax or shave. Designed specifically for intimate areas.

Estherpologist · 11/06/2021 06:59

Shaving always ends up with stubble for me. Even after a day or so.
Home waxing is a pain in the neck, literally.and even with practice it's easy to make mistakes and end up with bruising.
Pre waxed strips are fine for legs, but rubbish for bikini.
Melt-in-the-microwave kits are ok, but can be messy.

If you just want to do your bikini line, home waxing kits are ok.
If you want a Brazilian or Hollywood, leave it to the professionals.

Dementedswan · 11/06/2021 08:52

Thank you. Seems leaving it to the professionals is the best option.

I have found sugaring the best. Going to a very nice lady for years. Surprisingly it is not painful at all

Blendiful · 11/06/2021 20:54

I shave everyday. I have had a Brazilian before (ouch!!) but I was quite sore afterward and I don’t like that I have to have regrowth to go back although obviously you do! I like to be hair free all the time so shave everyday to keep this up, don’t know any othe me way to keep it permanently like that.

Dementedswan · 11/06/2021 21:42

@Blendiful just a normal soap and water shave over everything? Every day?

OP posts:
Blendiful · 11/06/2021 22:47

Yep, just in the shower! Have to use certain razors to avoid it getting sore/rash but I find it works for me, stays smooth and no dealing with regrowth

StarlightLady · 12/06/2021 05:24

The only hair on my body is on my head. I have been practicing hair removal for so long l can’t remember having hair and back to the days when Veet was called Immac.

Over as many years l have flitted between waxing and sometimes “Veet assisted” shaving.

The benefits of waxing are that the regrowth is softer and you stay smoother longer. Any discomfort becomes negligible as your body becomes used to it. Never go for a wax just before your period though. Against this, you have to put up with the regrowth, so it’s a fine balancing act.

To shave, make sure you have a sharp, preferably new blade, the Gillette Raspberry Venus is good but avoid shaving creams etc and use a good quality hair conditioner. The razor then glides.

Veet Sensitive is another option, if you have a little regrowth, but don’t assume, do the spot test first. And don’t run away with the idea that because you don’t have any reaction on your legs, you won’t elsewhere. Rather than the plastic thingy, you can “coax” the hair away with the razor too. Downside is that it doesn’t smell very nice.

For a while, l used a Phillips (? I think) Bikini Perfect, but didn’t replace it when it broke. It didn’t cut quite so close but may be a good option for those with sensitive skin and fine for a daily whizz over before your morning shower.

All the above may cause a little itching at first but it’s amazing how the body gets used to it and that goes away for good.

It certainly feels nicer in the warm weather. And yes, it increases sensitivity.

Okbye · 12/06/2021 10:57

I used to have regular Brazilian wax’s done but I purchased a Philips Lumea Prestige IPL in the last Black Friday sale and omg it’s worth every penny! If it broke tomorrow I’d but a new one immediately!

I use it to do my face, legs, arms, armpits and full Brazilians (front and back) and I do still have a tiny bit of growth underneath (I’m very dark haired) but it’s very easy to maintain and keep on top of, just needs a quick zap every few weeks.

My bikini line and pubic area has been hair free for a few months now. Well worth the investment imo and definitely worth it if you’re doing several areas 👍

Dementedswan · 12/06/2021 11:39

@Okbye I'll have a look at that thank you.

Some good advice here. Thank you all.

I've not come across Woo Woo before? Is it really meant for your fou fou? The reviews seem mixed and I'd be concerned about a full Hollywood from chemically dissolving your hair. And how does it compare to waxing?

Showgirl38 · 12/06/2021 12:48

I normally have a Brazilian every 5 weeks but during lockdown I couldn't. So I bought woo woo and used it allover. No stinging no rashes and smooth. Didn't last as long as waxing but I would use it again. I would do a test patch somewhere

Dementedswan · 12/06/2021 13:11

@Showgirl38 does it just dissolve the hair and wash off? My concern is scrapping hair off sensitive parts .. sounds painful .

OP posts:
Showgirl38 · 12/06/2021 14:02

Yes I used a sponge to wipe it off and all the hair came off.

Are you super flexible to manage full Brazilians?! Do you have to be able to see the areas perfectly well to use the Lumea? Or do you use a mirror? Any particular model better than the other? May I ask how much you paid?

I actually had IPL in a salon for my legs and armpits, but I'd love to be hair free down there too, completely, just now weighing up options.

A salon I contacted said sugar waxing would eventually be a permanent solution if I have enough sessions. I'm still a bit uncomfortable about the prospect of someone seeing my private parts, plus I don't want the regrowth which is necessary for subsequent sessions.

DivorcedAndDelighted · 14/06/2021 01:05

Laser hair removal is brilliant.
Over the years I've tried:
Shaving (always got ingrown hairs),
Home hot wax (took ages, always left bits, hurt )
Wax strips (hurt, not very effective)
Creams - Nair, Woowoo, Veet - they seem to struggle with my thick, strong hair but sometimes make my skin sore.

None of these were satisfactory. The laser treatment has been brilliant from the first session, with most hair gone & not regrowing after just 1 session.
It cost £250 at the Therapie Clinic chain for a course of 10 treatments for bikini and underarms, and that should leave me smooth and hair free for 10 years or so.
Their laser works on all skin colours apparently. I'm white with dark hair though, which is the easiest colouring for laser hair removal to work with.

DivorcedAndDelighted · 14/06/2021 20:24

Nb I know you asked about options which don't involve going to a salon. I had never been to a salon for this before the laser hair removal. My thinking was that I could get the whole thing dealt with in a few sessions and then not have to go to a salon again!

Dementedswan · 14/06/2021 20:41

@DivorcedAndDelighted thank you, I've had bikini wax before but nothing more intimate than that. Was thinking I might try a less permanent treatment incase I don't like it.

OP posts:
DivorcedAndDelighted · 17/06/2021 07:07

Oh yes, that sounds sensible! Sorry, I assumed you were already removing. And tbh as I've gone from being ideologically opposed to public hair removal, "why on earth would anyone bother?" to "Ooh, this feels nice!" to "Right, I'm getting rid of it permanently" within 6 months, I'm probably not the right person to listen to Grin

Superdrug. Double sachet, cream in one to remove all hair, other sachet is calming balm. 3 minutes all gone. Perfect.
