Whats the best way to remove hair from private parts apart from visiting a salon?

@Redland12 ...wish I had known about that during lockdown when couldn't get waxed...much preferable..

@DivorcedAndDelighted ...I'm similar to you. I started going bare below as I knew DH loved that so much. Got really used to it and now hate if I get hairy. Much nicer smooth. I would also go for a permanent solution but hadn't really considered it before. It sounds what you had done is really good. I'm blonde so should work really well

Redland12 · 17/06/2021 17:48

@Namechangednorth. It’s great stuff, I usually put it on in the morning, brush my teeth then 3 minutes jump in the shower, job done, then calming balm. They normally have an offer on. 2 sachets for £3.

Dementedswan · 17/06/2021 18:25

@Redland12 can you link to it?

No problem. Hope I’ve done it right.

I don’t mind answering, all over, under carriage too! I cover the whole area. No irritation or redness. So quick and easy.

Dementedswan · 17/06/2021 20:05

Thank you, do you have sensitive skin?

OP posts:
Redland12 · 17/06/2021 20:49

No I don’t but there’s no stinging and I apply the balm after although I don’t feel I need to. I don’t feel anything at all.

Dementedswan · 17/06/2021 20:56

Is there an advantage being completely hair free? More sensitivity etc? Or just looks nicer?

OP posts:
Redland12 · 18/06/2021 05:09

For me I prefer the look. No spiders legs sticking out of my underwear. Just neater.

StarlightLady · 18/06/2021 06:58

In short everything that applies to underarms applies here.

For me, in no particular order, l think it looks nicer, it’s more comfortable (less sweaty to be blunt!) in warm weather and when someone is going down on you, it increases sensitivity. As mentioned above, no “pokies” either.

LetsGoToTheHills · 18/06/2021 07:11

I've just started using an epilator (a Phillips one I bought years ago). Began on my legs (probably like waxing-so painful first time, now hardly feel a thing) and I have moved up to my undercarriage. I tweeze any hairs I miss (mirror required!). And exfoliate a lot according to all the advice.

Weirdly, I don't feel brave enough to epilate my underarms and I also shave the bikini line at the front (needs to be daily) as epilating there seems to leave a rash. I have an IPL machine for the bikini area which really reduces regrowth after shaving but for me I need to zap once a week or the hair comes back.

StarlightLady · 19/06/2021 06:29

Sidetracking slightly, but importantly, on the mirror use, if l may. Every woman should regularly inspect herself with a mirror anyway.

"Is there an advantage being completely hair free? More sensitivity etc? Or just looks nicer?"

Depends on personal preference and you don't know until you try. I used several years ago to be neatly trimmed and had bikini line done. When met DH it was apparent he preferred the smooth look and feel. So I shaved it all one day before a date night and wow...he really loved it and always really complimented the look and feel for him.

I definitely found it to be more sensitive especially when being touched but felt different at first. I then just got used to it and was the norm for me but as said earlier moved to waxing as part of my routine beauty salon visit. Several years on DH always takes time to complement not just me but in bed how much he loves me bare. I don't think I would go back now as must admit I've got to prefer it, especially if wearing skimpy knix or a bikini.

Depending on bikini you can get a little show through if wearing a plain light colour so if bothered go for a multi coloured type set and isn't obvious.

Best thing I ever bought was the Lumea Philips hair removal laser!

My body is literally hair free because of it. The odd few hairs pop up every couple of months so u just top up an use the laser. Best thing to ever exist!

mumznet · 17/04/2022 05:03

@StarlightLady

The only hair on my body is on my head. I have been practicing hair removal for so long l can’t remember having hair and back to the days when Veet was called Immac.

Over as many years l have flitted between waxing and sometimes “Veet assisted” shaving.

The benefits of waxing are that the regrowth is softer and you stay smoother longer. Any discomfort becomes negligible as your body becomes used to it. Never go for a wax just before your period though. Against this, you have to put up with the regrowth, so it’s a fine balancing act.

To shave, make sure you have a sharp, preferably new blade, the Gillette Raspberry Venus is good but avoid shaving creams etc and use a good quality hair conditioner. The razor then glides.

Veet Sensitive is another option, if you have a little regrowth, but don’t assume, do the spot test first. And don’t run away with the idea that because you don’t have any reaction on your legs, you won’t elsewhere. Rather than the plastic thingy, you can “coax” the hair away with the razor too. Downside is that it doesn’t smell very nice.

For a while, l used a Phillips (? I think) Bikini Perfect, but didn’t replace it when it broke. It didn’t cut quite so close but may be a good option for those with sensitive skin and fine for a daily whizz over before your morning shower.

All the above may cause a little itching at first but it’s amazing how the body gets used to it and that goes away for good.

It certainly feels nicer in the warm weather. And yes, it increases sensitivity.

@StarlightLady Hi, why not to wax hair before a period? I do threading, would on my chin, would you ay the same for threading? thanks
StarlightLady · 17/04/2022 08:07

@mumznet - Personally, l find the pubic area far more sensitive around the time of a period so would always avoid waxing at that time. Or expect more of an ouch! The chin is a lot further away of course, I’m not sure if the same would apply or not. Given how the whole body reacts to periods l would think it likely though.

mumznet · 17/04/2022 16:03

@StarlightLady thanks. you;re right. the whole body does feel sensitive around the period. so I don't really feel like doing threading on my chin. but will give it a go tomorrow after a shower. I think if I start doing the threading weekly, then hopefully the amount of hair to remove would be smaller, so hopefully less pain each time. I am only doing my chin and jawline area.

We use a Phillips Lumina
Brilliant on dark hair

helen4659 · 18/04/2022 11:30

Can I ask those using the lumea if you can do a full Hollywood? Their website says: Never use Lumea on the inner labia, vagina or anus.
