DS choosing options for September (Year 9). Apart from core subjects wants to do P.E , History, French, but wants to do Business Studies. Someone at work said it is not recognised as a good subject. Should I encourage Geography instead? DS is bright and capable. The Apprentice has a lot to answer for..

Edexel offer GCSE Business and Economics. This course is an excellent stepping stone for A level Economics or Business Studies and enables your child to keep his options open. If its the traditional AQA Business Studies course I would recommend your child take Geography. It looks better on your childs CV and isn't as dry and content driven.

A lot of universiries do except Btechs as equivelant to ordainary A levels. A lot of universities now ask for so many UCAS points instear of for Example 2 A's and a B,

Education is not just about qualifications.

I think kids should be encouraged to take the more traditional subjects as they tend to be the more culturally enriching ones. Throw a few skills based GCSEs into the mix and you have a well-rounded pupil!
