Oh! Oh! My firstborn starts secondary school in September. Surely that warrants a support thread?

Am I a bit too early for this?

I mean it's months away yet, isn't it?

Glad he got it back.

Dd loved the sports trip. She won a gold medal for Boccia, ds is very jealous as he is desperate for a medal of his own to show off!

FrogPrincess · 19/10/2010 11:26

well done to your dd kid! This morning dd received a handwritten postcard from her headmaster saying how much he enjoyed her cello playing at a concert (for inter house music comp winners and runners up) last week (obviously all the kids who played got one!). Can't decide whether it's very clever or he has too much time on his hands (which I know he hasn't).... I think it's lovely though Smile

Well done to all of our DC, they are obviously super intelligent like their parents Grin
DD got her Science assessment results today and I am impressed. She was getting a low level 2 at primary which isn't very good. She came home tonight so excited because she did 2 papers and got a 4 and a 5 in them. I don't blame her for being happy, it has really boosted her confidence. Science at secondary level is very different to primary.

DD is getting braver at school. She didn't do her Science HW but rather than tell me (I would have told her to get on with it) she went to the teacher the day before it was due and told her she didn't understand it. The teacher told her not to worry, she would simplify the work for her in the next lesson lol I am glad DD is taking action herself rather than wait for me to help her out. She needs to stand on her own 2 feet now and again. Especially as I am having a really, really bad time at work Sad

Tomorrow is PHCSE day and they don't need any equipment apparently. Thats ok, because her PE kit isn't ready.

Half term tonight! Well, after prize giving that is, but still......

How have our year 7s fared then so far?

stillfeel18inside · 21/10/2010 10:19

My DS has been fine overall, although am I the only person who gets a bit irritated by other parents saying "oh x is absolutely LOVING every minute or his/her new school..." My DS is liking lots of aspects of his new school, but definitely misses friends from primary and finds the homework quite hard.

bigTillyMint · 21/10/2010 15:29

stillfeel I agree with you. I think that the amount of homework they were given in the first couple of weeks (it's a bit less now, but still about an hour or more a night Sad) put a bit of a dampener on an otherwise great experience.

I can't believe I ever worried about her getting the bus, etc now!

Has any one got any information about st Katherines school in Pill please- I am considering it as a secondary school option but the exam results do not look brilliant yet it seems a lovely school with a great head and their value added figure is good...any experience out there please of this school would be appreciated
thanks

Half term for dd ( and me yipee!)

she has gone off to her nans fir the night or weekend or even week, who knows!
I'll a look through her bag but I don't think she has much homework to do. Well unless she hits lots today as she didn't have any to complete yesterday.

Just had a look in her planner and she has English, geography, history and art homework. I can see she did have unfinished homework yesterday, but it's not due in till after half term. She had better not leave it till the last minute that's for sure!

Good luck with getting your ds to do his hw dinosaur

DD finishes this afternoon, so I hope all our new year 7s enjoy the Christmas break! It has gone much better than I expected, and she has even realised that yes, she does need to wear a coat over her blazer and does so every day, and still looks cool (v important of course)!
She lost her pe bag twice and found it again twice (thanks to her more observant friends). She has also lost her library card, purse and £5, two hats and a pair of gloves. But she has made lots of new friends, earned lots of credits, played some great music, and I am very proud of her Xmas Smile
Best Christmas Wishes to my fellow year 7 first term survivors' parents.

HSMM · 15/12/2010 21:47

My DD breaks up on Friday. She too has learned to wear a coat. She has failed to work out how her locker could be useful. She has had one detention for forgetting a book. Lost her PE kit one morning and it was returned in the afternoon by the school 'runners'.

She has loads of new friends, lots of housepoints and an excellent report card. I am very happy and she seems to be too (phew).

Doesn't September seem a long time ago now? Well done to all the yr7s who have taken these massive changes in their stride.

ds2's had a great term, joined lots of clubs, done all his homework on time and generally thrown himself into everything.

Unfortunately he does keep losing things, so we still need to work on that!
