Waiting for that secondary school letter (1st march?)

Is anyone else waiting for that letter with bainted breath? I'm terrified DS won't get into his first choice and don't know what we'll do if he doesn't.

not sure where you are enchilada, but I just managed to get back in to online stuff for my council (Doncaster) and its been re-enabled (wasn't active last week) and have found out my DS has got the place we wanted on line...

I used the URL from one of the confirmation of registration e-mails and it worked - I was surprised as I was sat waiting for an email, chewling my nails off...

gorionine · 01/03/2010 10:21

Post just arrived, no letter yet.

PaperBack · 01/03/2010 10:36

Quick question.

Those of you who have said they didn't get into the grammar school, did your dc pass the eleven plus then not get a place?

gorionine · 01/03/2010 10:41

Paperback, I cannot talk for everyone, (and have not yet got the answer) but in our case DD passed the 11 plus but because the grammar school she has applied to is a state one, they still work on a catchment basis on the top of test selection. Being out of the catchmnt, DD is not a priority, even with successfull test. Her getting in will depend on how many of those who have passed do live in the school's catchment.

OneMoreMum · 01/03/2010 10:43

I think most authorities post their letters today so you're unlikely to get a letter until tomorrow.
Am checking my email and the council website every 5 minutes even though the form says they will let us know late afternoon. Seems highly unlikely that the council will somehow get more efficient and issue anything early but you never know....

chaostrulyreigns · 01/03/2010 11:24

Ok please help me!

What's your interpretation of "one minute past midnight on the first of march"?

Is that 11ish hours ago or in 13 hours time? aaargh.

claig · 01/03/2010 11:31

11 hours ago, midnight is end or current day, start of next day

NewLeaseofLife · 01/03/2010 11:36

Just checked local council web site and found this!? Am I reading this right? DOes this mean that I wont find out until May??? How come everyone else gets to find out now?

MsDav · 01/03/2010 11:44

I think this thread is for those waiting on secondary schoolplaces NewLeaseOfLife.

mumto3boys · 01/03/2010 11:46

For those of you awaiting emails - when we got ours 2 years ago, although they were sent at just gone midnight, we didn't receive them until mid afternoon. Probably their rubbish servers or something.

MrsWeasley · 01/03/2010 11:49

Swindon Area find out today. Applied online go an email at 8.20 this am.

issysmilkbottle · 01/03/2010 11:49

got ours today, ds didnt get any of our 3 choices and has been allocated to a faith school despite requesting not to as we are humanists... arghhhh

dinosaur · 01/03/2010 11:54

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at the poster's request.

deaddei · 01/03/2010 11:56

issysmilkbottle- a pity you can't put your faith school place on Ebay- you'd make a mint!
We'll get our letter tomorrow- ds will get his 1st choice school (state comp) as he will not get grammar place. But the tension in the local coffee shop today was palpable, with mums agonising over what would happen if their dcs did not get a grammar school place. Well, the statistics are not good round here- 15 children going for every place.
Well done everyone who got what they wanted!!!

aseriouslyblondemoment · 01/03/2010 11:59

issys
just received mine
ds1 got 2nd choice
it's not what he or i will want tho as he doesn't go to a feeder school for it
guess it looks like appeals time for me
are you going to do the same?

Lifeisforliving · 01/03/2010 11:59

Congratulations to everyone who's had good news, so sorry issy what are you going to do now?

I'm still waiting, online option withdrawn half an hour ago, I've spoken to the LEA emails have yet to be sent, apparently they're waiting for the go ahead to send them .

Not impressed, just need to know!!!!!

GrimmaTheNome · 01/03/2010 12:00

issy, that's appalling - are you going to appeal?

titchy · 01/03/2010 12:05

If so many people are finding out TODAY, and the press are branding it school outcome day (or whatever) WHY AREN'T LONDON SCHOOLS OUTCOMES AVAILABLE TILL TOMORROW MORNING????

aseriouslyblondemoment · 01/03/2010 12:13

jesus that's terrible
my lea posted it 2nd class on feb 26th so tbh i didn't expect it to be here today

MsDav · 01/03/2010 12:16

Think our LEA posts it first class today. Does anyone know if the primary schools get to know where their Yr 6 cohort are off to before we do?

Mimiso · 01/03/2010 12:19

MSDav, I understand that the primary schools have been aware of allocations as of the 19th FEB

deaddei · 01/03/2010 12:19

I thought schools did know MsDav, but I could be wrong.

sb6699 · 01/03/2010 12:20

Our letters are posted 1st class today but I also requested an e-mail. Still dont have it though.

deaddei · 01/03/2010 12:21

(imagines desparate mothers (and fathers) offering huge donations and sexual favours to the head in return for information)
