boy or girl?

how old are they now?

schools very very oversubscribed in SW herts

sb6699 · 20/11/2009 14:22

Also really oversubscribed in East Herts. If your dc's are already at secondary school age, you will end up at a school miles away I'm afraid.

There are quite a few private schools around this neck of the woods but I'm sure I heard that they are all full too.

Pineapplechunks · 20/11/2009 14:24

Watford Grammar for Girls and Watford Grammar for Boys are top of the league closely followed by Parmiters.

So if I were you I'd look at Bushey. Nice area and easy travelling to any of those schools.

sb6699 · 20/11/2009 14:36

Hockerill Anglo-European College.

Bishops Stortford High School.

Herts & Essex High School.

Bishops Stortford College.

Sorry cant do links but thought you could try googling.

Worth bearing in mind that to be in the catchment area for these schools you're looking at £££££

IWasAdoredOnceToo · 20/11/2009 15:32

CLASSICAL OR ROCK?

RTKangaMummy · 20/11/2009 15:44

BOYS OR GILRS

creditcrunched · 20/11/2009 17:06

Dame Alice Owen school

pinkteddy · 20/11/2009 17:09

You would be unlikely to get them into 6th form at Dame Alice Owens. Massively oversubscribed and people don't leave! Simon Balle school in Hertford is supposed to be good for music. Don't know how difficult it is to get in though.

IWasAdoredOnceToo · 20/11/2009 17:35

JAzz, classical
boys

If you are Catholic St Mary's in Stortford might suit.

IWasAdoredOnceToo · 20/11/2009 21:31

No not Catholic

St Albans school (private). No idea about music though.

SparklyGothKat · 20/11/2009 22:05

Beaumont school in St albans have rep for Music www.beaumontschool.com/school_life/music.php

My son goes there and its a fab school

Drayford · 26/11/2009 18:21

Arts Educational College at Tring is a specialist music/performing arts school - we considered it for DD at sixthform, but she was offered a scholarship elsewhere.

hocuspontas · 28/11/2009 11:48

I don't think you have to be Catholic to get into the sixth form at St Marys. But having dcs in the sixth form may not give you sibling rights in the main school. (They come after the Catholic criteria anyway).

Hockerill was trying to sell itself as a good music school. They do the IB if you are interested in that. It's easier to get in the sixth form than the main school, although that goes for all the schools in Stortford.

Also look at the under achieving schools, they will bust a gut to have your children. Think of your DCs being large fish in a small pond.

fluffycauliflower · 28/07/2010 15:47

Watford grammar school takes a lot of kids new in the 6th form as those who don't get good enough GCSE's are kicked out. Are you aware that we have partially selective schools in SW Herts? Queens school in Bushey is also a good school, and Rickmansworth School in Croxley. St. Helen's is a good private girl's school nearby. Good luck.

kris123 · 19/11/2010 20:46

what is your view of hockerill anglo-european school? would you prefer to send your child to hockerill, or to a local good grammar school, like st olaves?

francohoops · 07/06/2012 08:44

Hi, we are looking to move in the next few months and were thinking about Kings Langley as a potential area. Can anyone provide some background to the area and would they recommend it? Other areas that we are looking at include Croxley Green and Rickmansworth. We are looking to buy. Are there any other areas people would recommend? We need good primary schools and decent transport links into London. A nice village feel would be a bonus.
Thanks for your help

Try baldock - though over subscribed secondary. Good school for music though
