wow, well done webwiz DD that is fab. We've just had a celebratory chinese takeaway, too much hassle taking 4 DCs to a restaurant when the youngest two act like chimps

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 27/08/2009 19:59

enjoy your meals. ds had pizza (its his birthday today too)

Remotew · 27/08/2009 19:59

mumoverseas, my DD knows how I completely underachieved at the very same school. Told her that I did an A level though and got a B at college. I haven't done as well as you but did do some professional exams later in life and earn enough to pay the bills most months. lol

Well done to all the young ones.

Remotew · 27/08/2009 20:00

How old is he today Riven?

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 27/08/2009 20:09

16 today. My baby!

Remotew · 27/08/2009 20:28

He must start his A levels soon then. Best to concentrate on those, I think, rather than worrying about missing a *.

Don't the unis look at extra curicular achievment too. eg DofE etc? Also how they come across at interview and then they have there own entrance tests. Lot of hoops to jump or glide through.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 27/08/2009 20:34

Next week. ds has aspergers so isn't great at interviews and doesn't do any extra-curricular thingies.
But hopefully this will teach him that you need to bloody revise!

Remotew · 27/08/2009 20:48

Riven, yes it will teach them.

DD has had a practise interview at school. I gave her a little bit of coaching, e.g eye contact, ask them a couple of questions about their job, if invited to do so. She was buzzing afterwards and got an A*. However, she was just quiet.

mumoverseas · 27/08/2009 22:15

happy birthday to Riven's DS. He has done very well bearing in mind he must be the youngest in his year.
Interesting about Unis taking into account other stuff like D of E. Maybe the ridiculous sum of about £1,500 I spent on his silver award trip to Cyprus in June will turn out to be money well spent.

Had to chuckle at my son's interview for the school he starts next week. He'd heard that questions are often asked along the lines of 'what have you got to offer the school' so when the Headmaster asked if he had any questions, he said 'yes, what has your school got to offer me and why should I choose your school out of all the ones that are interviewing me?' cocky little git was offered an academic scholarship by them.

Remotew · 27/08/2009 22:22

mos, lol. I like his style. These are killer questions. My last job interview was full of them, somehow I managed to bluff it and got offered the job.

What should you really say to the question, what have you got to offer our college? Seriously I want some tips for DD.

Milliways · 27/08/2009 22:29

Congratulations to all your DC! It's lovely seeing how well everyone has done.

For the record, my DN starts Uni in Sept, and he only got one GCSE, but got a place a college, did a foundation course and starts his Art degree soon.

Remotew · 27/08/2009 22:57

Milliways, I've seen your posts re your DD's A levels and I'm not a stalker a good advert for the comps system.

Milliways · 27/08/2009 22:59

Thanks . This thread takes me back though, and DS starts Yr10 in Sept, so here we go again!

peapodlovescuddles · 27/08/2009 23:17

May I have a proud mummy moment? Please...Just a little one?

DS has got 7As and 1 A! Which when added to his 2A from last year and A in statistics from yr9 means he has 10As and 1A!!!! I'm so proud!!!
He thinks he's doing English Literature, Maths, Economics, German and Geography next year for A level, it seems like good choices!

mdrooney · 27/08/2009 23:33

congrats to everyone who,s dc got there results today, and glad you are proud of your dc who got A,s and b,s and congrats to all those who have worked hard and passed there exames weather its a b c or d very well done, one childs a* is important as one childs c or d so lets be proud.
my dds have got a couple of years yet till their exames but well done to all your dc

mumoverseas · 28/08/2009 09:38

wow well done to your DS peapod, that is fantastic. I thought my DS had done well

peapodlovescuddles · 28/08/2009 18:36

Thank you mumoverseas, your ds has done well! his arabic is exceptional, especially if he taught himself! (his teacher sounds like a prize twat fwiw) And I'm loving his interview style, just the right side of cocky to be funny and charming!

Remotew · 02/09/2009 18:16

Finally got the science module results today. Better than we thought, so very pleased.

A Chem, A Bio, A Physics, 89% for the Bio & Physics so high A's. Hopefully the final results next year will take it to A's.

lilolilmanchester · 02/09/2009 22:28

great news abouteve!! DS got an A for a couple of his first modules and re-sat. Is that an option if your DD is aiming for A*s overall?

Remotew · 03/09/2009 09:18

Thanks, decided it's not worth doing any retakes. She got 99% in Bio for coursework, Phys not yet marked so with just a slightly higher mark in the next modules she can probably make the A*. If not then we wont worry about it. Tbh she admits she could have revised more.

Gawd it's going to be pressure this year and beyond. Still if they want to achieve highly they all have to put the work in.
