School is open until 1pm but I'm at work so looks like I will collect her sweatshirt and results on Tuesday. Been told they are there today.

lilolilmanchester · 27/08/2009 11:15

Relief here - DS a bit disappointed with 2 but otherwise a decent set of grades, all B and above. Good luck to anyone still waiting.

ShrinkingViolet · 27/08/2009 11:20

DD1 doesn't go in till 1pm for hers - I have no fingernails left..

pagwatch · 27/08/2009 11:27

DS1 is really pleased. 5A*, 4A and 1B. His girl frend has similar results so we are grateful that the lectures not to neglect their studies because they are in luuurrrvve didn't fall on deaf ears .
He has worked hard and i am pleased for him.

lilolilmanchester · 27/08/2009 11:30

brilliant pagwatch!

pagwatch · 27/08/2009 11:37

I am especially grateful that we got the results early.
Fingers crossed and very best wishes to everyone else waiting !!!

mumoverseas · 27/08/2009 11:54

congrats to your DC pagwatch and lilo. Your DS shouldn't be disappinted lilo he has done really well. Know what you mean though, DS was disappointed to get 'only an A' in business studies when he'd expected and A*.
Hopefully it will make him pull his finger out a bit more for his A levels

Remotew · 27/08/2009 12:00

I snook out of work, 45 min round trip, picked up the uniform and asked for results, they wouldn't give me them as it's yr 10!!

Wanted to give these out on Wednesday. They hinted that she had done very well. From what I could glean out of the teacher don't think it could be an A*,A,B for the 3 taken so far, she will be disappointed with the B but as someone said will hopefully make her put some work in for the next lot.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 27/08/2009 12:05

ds is asking for maths to be remarked. He was predicted A*, was top of his class and they made a new stream for him and one other lad. But he got an A. He's not a happy bunny at all.

mumoverseas · 27/08/2009 12:37

abouteve what a pain, that is really mean of them taunting you

riven can you actually ask for it to be remarked? DS was predicted A for several exams and only got A's and also got B's for english which were expected to be As
Your DS should still be very proud of his A for maths though. Understand what you are staying though, DS is still miffed at the A for business studies when he was top of class and predicted A*.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 27/08/2009 13:03

Yes you can. Its possible this will be a lesson for him in REVISING! which he didn't do because he's so good at maths he thought he didn't need to bother.
But given he wants to go to Bristol Uni to do mathematical engineering, that A in GCSE maths might mean he doesn't get a place - there's over 200 applicants for 20 places.

Hulababy · 27/08/2009 13:06

Well done to the mn childen.

OrmIrian · 27/08/2009 13:53

None of mine are there yet but just checked on the local rag website and it seems DS#1's school has got 44% grade A-Cs - was on the National Challenge list last year. Tis was one of those anomalies that were judged as outstanding by Ofsted but had low grades at GCSE. So very pleased.

asdx2 · 27/08/2009 13:54

Proud mum today dd got A* (maths) and 6As and 2Bs. Huge achievement considering she has to be very self directed as she gets too little attention at home because of her siblings with autism. Trying to let her be centre of attention for a while today.

aitchjay66 · 27/08/2009 14:35

Very pround mum today as DD got 6 As 2 As and 2 Bs to add to the 2 As she already has.Particualrly pround of the A in English and A in English Literature she DD is dyslexic and has to work extra hard in those subjects.

mumoverseas · 27/08/2009 15:01

well done on all those results, really good.
riven, surely the grades for A level will be more important when applying for Uni?
I'm new to all this as DS is my eldest but I thought with Uni applications they were more interested in A level grades and in any event, an A is fabulous.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 27/08/2009 15:03

its sort of true but when competition is fierce and all 200 applicants have 3 A's then they look at GCSE grades to differentiate candidates. I did nag tell him this.
He is really pissed off with himself.

asdx2 · 27/08/2009 15:10

Will he take maths and further maths next year like my dd? May give him an edge?

Remotew · 27/08/2009 15:21

Similar situation to us Riven. DD wants to go to med school, some of them only give a 10% chance and all candidates will have 3 A's. She will probably get overall A* for two of the sciences but not for one.

I'm hoping she will up her game in time for A levels and that the uni's look at the fuller person than just the one or two grades below A* at GCSE.

Often if a child has done consistently well they won't study as hard as others.

OrmIrian · 27/08/2009 15:36

We have been invited to SILs for dinner to celebrate nephew's GCSEs. Results not exactly stellar TBH but better than might have been expected considering he did bugger all in the last year. So we are going to be pleased for him

Remotew · 27/08/2009 16:01

That's great OrmIrian, it's enough to celebrate the fact that your nephew did better than expected. Hope you have a great evening.

Not every teen can get mainly A*s and A's though sometime on mumsnet it can seem that way.

5 A-C's is a good benchmark to go into a career or trade with. There are always people that leave school with much less than this who do well in life as well as vice versa.

mumoverseas · 27/08/2009 17:01

have to agree with abouteve I totally arsed about at school with my 'O' levels (christ, showing my age) and left with some grades that are worse than the 2 B's and 1 C my DS is disappointed with (of course I'll never tell him that)

I then had to work bloody hard in the real world, working full and part time with babies to qualify as a lawyer but I got there in the end. Do wish I'd taken school a little more seriously though

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 27/08/2009 17:15

ds wants 4 exams remarked/checked. At £38 a pop! No way can I afford that. He's going to have to lump it I think.

leenasmom · 27/08/2009 17:44

my neice is not the a* student either but she has passed with 4A 3b and 1c. considering she was off school in yr 10 due to health issues and had a 'holiday' in term time this yr it was good news.
well done to all your dc's

webwiz · 27/08/2009 17:49

DD2 got 6A*s, 4As and a B at AS level so we are feeling very pleased today (and she had her picture taken for the local paper as one of her schools high achievers). We are off out for a meal to celebrate this evening
