Am already dreading the holidays as dd needs to do some 11+ practice and it's so hard to get her to do anything! Anyone else in the same boat?

OP posts:

Well we have turned up at the grammar school this morning ready to take the familiarisation test. We have been told that he is not taking it today as he is SA+ and they are awaiting reports and then an panel will make a decision as to what different arrangements, if any, will be made for him when taking the tests. We don't know when the decision will be made, or when he will take the tests!

I had expected that he would take the actual tests this Friday and next Tuesday and then the (self-imposed) nightmare would be over. But no; this could go on for weeks!

QOD · 15/09/2009 21:09

well dd did the Verbal & NVR papers today, said NVR was hard, so I dont know how she did.
Maths & English tomorrow.
Good luck too all the rest takig it at the mo

Doobydoo · 18/09/2009 14:19

Hope all are ok.ds1 had his non verb this morning,so now we wait until 10th Oct for results.Glad it is done now...

ShellingPeas · 18/09/2009 16:25

Doobydoo - you're lucky getting your results so early. We have to wait until 19th October for ours.

DS sits the real thing tomorrow and (although I know it's so stupid and completely out of my hands now) I am so anxious about it all. I have told DH he has to take DS as I will just get too stressy and pass my anxieties on.

QOD · 18/09/2009 18:50

dd does the Dover grammar test tomorro, then its ALLLLLLLLLLLLL over bar the waiting!
We get results of Kent one on 19th Oct, but only pass or fail, then get actual score off school

Doobydoo · 26/09/2009 21:05

Hope everyone is ok??????????
Such fun waiting isn't it
ds1 is now being home edded and isn't even sure he wants to go to secondary school.Still,it would be nice if he had the option of the Grammar in case he changes his mind.Hope everyone is ok

QOD · 28/09/2009 21:41

Yeah, it's a waiting game now! 19th oct can't come soon enough

ShellingPeas · 05/10/2009 22:16

Anyone had any results yet? We don't get ours until 19th by email and 20th by post.

I'm feeling a little about it at the moment as had parent/teacher consults today and DS's teacher asked if he would be very upset if he didn't pass and whether it would affect his working in class. I know that the Kent results have already been sent to the schools for headteacher appeals (although DS doesn't have the headteacher appeal option as he goes to school out of county), so I am just hoping I'm reading too much into her comment... He needs to have scored at lest 405 out of 420 so I am now seriously wondering why on earth we put ourselves through it in the first place.

This waiting is hell and I have no fingernails left. Urgh!

Doobydoo · 09/10/2009 09:15

Tomorrow for us I think[hope]
Sorry Shellingpeas I hope it works out

Doobydoo · 10/10/2009 13:53

Hope all are ok?
ds1 passed 11+He is very pleased! and so are we.

QOD · 10/10/2009 21:09

YEAY! Well done doobydoo ds!
Still awaiting here - I want to catch the heads eye.......... but she won't give anything away
Tick tock tick tock.....

Doobydoo · 10/10/2009 22:09

Thanks QOD..The wait is awful.Felt nervous for ds1 today. We got back from town at 2pm and letter was here and he opened it and read it,then took the window of opportunity and went on his WIIHe had a score of 249 for the 2 papers so we are pleased with him a nd so is he!
Good luck to all.xx

QOD · 11/10/2009 15:47

cool!
Ours get scored on 3 papers - i think 114 minimum on each but 2 need to be over 120 - you need to get over 360 in total.
confusing!

Doobydoo · 11/10/2009 17:46

V Confusing.Ours is 2 papers max score 282.Now we have to wait until March 1st to know which school.Bonkers imo.

QOD · 12/10/2009 21:21

argh argh argh
DD annouced that her maths book at school has "gone" and she was told to use a sheet of paper..... that means

  1. failed test but HT appeal
  2. passed and comparing her work to someone else who failed
  3. none of the above

LOL

2 other girls who were likely candidates are missing too!

Doobydoo · 12/10/2009 21:51

QOD....HOPE YOU FIND OUT ASAP[Fingers crossed]

ShellingPeas · 19/10/2009 16:46

Results are in...

DS passed, but we don't know score yet. He needs a high score to stand a chance as we are out of county - by about 400 metres!

School won't answer phone as they are on an inset day and I NEED to know the scores. Aaaggh.

QOD · 19/10/2009 19:47

DD didn't score high enough (head said I am not allowed to say failed LOL)
SHe won't give me scores til tomorrow as everyones have been posted out, but says she missed by 1 point

You have to laugh and luckily dd is rightly, very very proud of herself!

Just waiting on the Dover test result now!

ShellingPeas · 19/10/2009 19:57

I'm sorry to hear that QOD - when do you hear about Dover test? By 1 point is rough, but glad to see your DD and yourself have a sense of humour about it.

We did get our scores today, eventually... I am so proud of my DS as he got 415 out of 420, so we should be okay for applying for the super selectives in Kent. I just can't believe it's all real, and that I'm not going to wake up tomorrow and find that it was all a dream.

QOD · 19/10/2009 20:22

wow he did great!
Dover should be in the post now, so tomorrow? maybe?

Doobydoo · 19/10/2009 20:26

Well done to your ds Shellingpeas

QOD...1 FECKIN POINT...Your dd has done extremely well...this is partly why I think the system is mad...I mean 1 point!

Hope you get result you and dd want for Dover.

ShellingPeas · 19/10/2009 20:47

Best of luck for you tomorrow QOD, I will have my fingers (and toes) crossed for you.

QOD · 19/10/2009 21:06

thanks ladies - fingers & eyes crossed!

Doobydoo · 19/10/2009 21:47

DEFINITELY!

We are off to look at A superselective tomorrow.
We have looked at the one in catchment and because of ds's score are going to look at this one. They take on rank score order and tbh I hope in some ways we like the local one more as this could be rather a trek.We feel we have to look though[if that makes sense!]
After all this we won't know school till March and ds1 might want to continue home ed...and we are moving the end of this month,dp trying to work from home ,I have started a Return to Nursing course and we have a 2 and ahalf year old...feel tired

QOD · 21/10/2009 07:33

sucks chunks

she got
NVR 136 VR 119 math 116
aggregate 371
If the 116 was a 117 is automatic pass, aggregate has to be 360

4 kids got in on appeal on lower (by 20 to 40 points) aggregates

She ahs passed the Dover test byt we are 16 miles away

sigh
