Same. Dd hates stem - though biology is the “best” of the bad bunch. She found aqa triple paper 1 “shit” so needs to pull her finger out for tomorrow but is focusing on history paper 3.

At least she is revising something. My son is almost through with it all mentally.
This last few exams is going to be a slog.
I wonder if the exam markers know that children are reaching burnout by this stage and give a little slack?

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 07/06/2026 11:23

@AMatterOfInfiniteHope you sound like you were extremely diligent at your job. I hope most examiners approach the task as you did

makemineadecaf · 07/06/2026 11:42

How many do you all have left? 8 to go here…

6 left here, with 2 double days

Haribosweets · 07/06/2026 12:39

For those of you going away after 15th June or whenever your child's exam finish - aren't you supposed to wait until after contingency day 24th June? My DS school is very strict about it and keep sending emails not to go away until 25th onwards

MabelsBeats · 07/06/2026 12:42

I’m only aware that contingency day exists from these threads, otherwise I’d have no idea. Our school hasn’t mentioned it, I’m still not quite clear what it’s for. Independent school.

Littletreefrog · 07/06/2026 12:49

I believe contingency day was introduced following disasters such as the Grenfell Tower fire. It would have to be a very significant issue for it to be used of course not impossible but unlikely.

whereonthestair · 07/06/2026 13:04

I was only aware of contingency day due to these threads. School haven’t mentioned it at all. But we decided if we had to come back we’ll come back. At the time that was because we were expecting DS to have surgery mid July and we need a holiday. I thought contingency day would be used if the King died and there would be an unexpected bank holiday but couldn’t think of any other reason

Bluebelle8261 · 07/06/2026 13:09

History is such a lot of content. Wiermar and Nazi Germany was covered months ago as it took them up to the exam to finish the last paper. Hopefully going over it will trigger her memory.

Bluebelle8261 · 07/06/2026 13:12

When my ds did his we were told not to book anything on these contingency days but they havent mentioned this year. Is it for children who have missed exams or put there for the exam boards just in case there are leaked exams or something and everyone has to re take?

Aqa so in the Tuesday morning.
Think most of the school is finished foe physics on Monday morning
Ds will still have further maths and Spanish at that point

6 and counting every minute!

Tears today due to just being fed up and wanting some freedom from it.

Hot chocolate and snacks on the go to try to calm

Haribosweets · 07/06/2026 13:20

Strange how some schools haven't mentioned it! I think its for something like King dieing and its his funeral / bank holiday. Not long to go now... the end is in site. My son's study leave starts this Wednesday for 3 days 🤣 - he has no exams Tuesday and no lessons relevant to exams he will have. I wouldn't mind if they revised but they seem to let them play games and chat!

It was in an email with other general info about exams that the school sent out. Much as with everything else out school does, it was communicated really late so I wouldn’t be surprised if some families had already booked holidays based on the date of their DCs last exam.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 07/06/2026 13:29

The king better not bloody die as my son on a football tour! I’ll go and check his blood pressure myself every day if I have to

Fizbosshoes · 07/06/2026 13:35

6 left for us, 5 next week, and last one on 15th

HaveYourPetSpeyedOrNeutered · 07/06/2026 13:50

DS has 8 exams left to go.

LattePatty · 07/06/2026 13:57

7 more exams here. Son says he’s feeling tired and I hear him playing his guitar a lot so I feel like the revision might be slipping. He finishes on the 16 June.

We’re going away but back on 23rd. At our school all kids need to be in school on 24th for shirt signing, 6th form intro etc. I guess they’ve done that to ensure no one is away for contingency day.

Same

Funkylights · 07/06/2026 14:43

I think ours mentioned contingency day. One of our other local schools defo did as they’ve been told not to go away til after

FlyingPandas · 07/06/2026 14:53

6 exams to go for DS - two double exam days and two single ones.

Both the school I work in and. DS’s school are very strict about contingency day and not booking to go away until after it’s over. As others have said it’s to be used in case exams all have to be cancelled on one particular day for some reason ie major terrorist attack, natural disaster or significant news event (ie death of the monarch).,I think it was originally introduced as the late queen got older in case she died during an exam period and an exam day got cancelled. It’s never been used in the 10 years I’ve been invigilating.
