Thinking waaaaay ahead, what are people thinking of doing on results day? DH and I have booked the day off work so we can go with DS to pick up his results and I've booked lunch at Pizza Express. I missed my own results day so have no idea what's normal but parents going is definitely the done thing at this school.

Saisong · 15/05/2026 14:57

My kids won't let me within a million miles of school, and especially not on results day. They'll walk in with their friends and we get to hear at some point later!

XelaM · 15/05/2026 15:03

My daughter wants to on a beach 🏖️ as far away from school on results day as possible 🤣

NotDarkGothicMama · 15/05/2026 15:12

Haha excellent. I would be that parent sitting outside at 0600 Zulu waiting for the carpark to open while DS was still in bed.

waitingquietly · 15/05/2026 15:14

@NotDarkGothicMama i have to go with DS2 to sign him up at sixth form . We will hopefully have accessed the results on his school email at 8 - otherwise we will be opening an envelope at school which I think is pretty grim - we are in the position where not everything will definitely be passed . My kids tend to be quite low key about these sorts of celebrations . So probably his choice of takeaway that evening . That’s what happened last year with DS1 . The main event I think is heading off to Reading with his friends .

Fifiellz · 15/05/2026 15:17

Kids aren’t allowed in our school on results day. Grades are available on an app from 8am and certificates are sent by post or can be picked up from the office on a specific date the week after. We will be on holiday anyway but will need to be up early to check results so we can input in college website as her course is oversubscribed and first come first served 🤦‍♀️ If she does really well she will stay on for A Levels but already has her offer from school.

My youngest will be in nursery and my middle will be at a holiday club, so i’m taking DD to school for her results (Strict instructions to wait in the car) And then a celebratory breakfast somewhere nice with a Mimosa. Please God let there be plenty to celebrate 🙈

After that, we’re signing her up for 6th form.

Following day me, DD, my cousin and her DD are going for brunch (Drinks for me and my cousin) To celebrate the start of a new chapter for the girls (Who don’t usually want to be seen dead with us but happy to indulge us for this brunch)

Ursulla42 · 15/05/2026 15:23

Mine is already planning taking advantage of some sort of free Nando’s offer with her mates.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 15/05/2026 15:30

I’m going with my son to his school

Beachforever · 15/05/2026 15:30

DD will be going to school with her friends. I’ll see them via email at home. Then I imagine that we’ll want to do something with DD (to hopefully celebrate) but she’ll blow us off to party with her friends! Then Reading the following week.

3GoldenLamps · 15/05/2026 15:40

DH and I will be with DS on results day. DS and i are coming back from our holiday to see his grandparents 3 days early so we are ready and able.

Other than thatt I don't know what we will do. I expect a lunch of some sort.

DH is quite old fashioned and always dresses up when we go to the school so I have already imagined him in his chinos and tweed jacket. He's booked the day off work already.

Anjelika · 15/05/2026 15:51

Mine will definitely go in with friends. Have never heard of parents going into school. Definitely not the done thing at our school!

DS very pleased with AQA History today although it sounds like they have done very different topics to others on here. His were Germany and Asia. The Korean War came up for the latter's 16 mark question which is his favourite topic.

Onto a weekend of English Lit and Chemistry in our house.

I’m going with dd 100% at 8am and I’ve booked a special brunch for the family.

Hope that post of mine about DD’s Eng lit did not seem boasty – was trying to show that “disaster” for a strong candidate in a specific exam can be anything but. To redress the balance, she struggled to a 6 in her maths GCSE. Just Eng lit is her baby, so she wanted it to be perfect. (which it kind of was, but she didn’t think so with her high standards for that exam; I suspect maths was “fine” :)

Re parents going in – from experience as a teacher, some did, some didn’t. I didn’t (as I was always in the school where I taught haha) but I did loiter outside for A levels. And for DS1 whose results were likely to be precarious wrt getting in to college, I think I went into college with him in the pm to advocate. Not that it was needed, all was fine. DD rang me in tears (of joy – she was very fearful of her results) and DS2 just messaged me "smashed it" haha (DD and DS2 had results which almost exactly mirrored each other, albeit in different subjects).

XelaM · 15/05/2026 16:14

Isn't it awful opening results in front of all your friends if yours didn't go as planned and they are all celebrating? Can't imagine it being pleasant for many kids. Everyone I know wants to get theirs by email.

I think they just all want to celebrate or support each other. In my case my DD shares everything with her friends. They’re more like family. They know that some grades they’ll probably be disappointed and some they’ll be ecstatic and they want to experience it all together. Making memories and all that jazz.

JustOneMoreMargarita · 15/05/2026 16:22

Can’t imagine DD will want me anywhere near school. If she’s anything like her big brother it’ll be a long wait for me to find out while she’s busy catching up with her mates and signing up for 6th form (she has an unconditional offer so that should all be fine). Likely to be take away of her choice in the evening,

Still not back from today’s double header but she’s messaged to say they were both “so good” and to express her happiness at never having to do Sociology ever again.

Fair enough. In my daughter's case it could really go any way - from complete disaster to 8/9s. The only mark she already knows is Art and that's an 8 if grade boundaries stay like last year (she was aiming for a 9 so is already not happy 😬).

Wincher · 15/05/2026 16:56

I’ve been away with work so haven’t really had a chance to catch up with DS. He had the crime and punishment paper this morning which I think he says went fine. Who knows! Glad this week is done - he’s now finished three subjects altogether and has done more than 40% of the exams - his are very front loaded.

DS is another aiming for all 9s and I keep trying to temper his expectations on this. He’s at a comp which doesn’t usually have the best results and he’s had to teach himself the science curriculum off YouTube. So frankly I think if he gets 7s and 8s with the odd 9 that will be amazing and I hope he won’t be disappointed with that.

ExamExamExam · 15/05/2026 16:56

We’ve got plans on results day, so DS will get his by email. I don’t think he’d be that bothered to go in person anyway.

bananaapplepears · 15/05/2026 17:01

Can I join you all please? DS is taking GCSEs and predicted mostly 9s (except maths!). He had the crime and punishment paper today and said it was beautiful and way better than expected.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 15/05/2026 17:38

I love the fact we are 1/4 in and jumping to results day discussion 🤣

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 15/05/2026 17:39

My son off playing golf now. 9 holes in the sunshine. Then cracking on tomorrow morning…..eurgh

I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with the suspense TBH. It feels like the run-up to Christmas, my birthday, a trip to Alton Towers and an amazing holiday combined, balanced with the wait for my biopsy results when I had a tumour removed. DS could really go either way: all 7-9s or failing key subjects, depending on whether he bothered to try on exam day.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 15/05/2026 18:15

Yes I remember my A levels results day well when I thought I’d have a line of Ds and wouldn’t open my envelope. So my best friend grabbed it, ripped it open and said ‘you got an A and 3 Bs you twat’. Forever grateful to her
