Dd has to go in tomorrow. She has double Art and Art is finished so has to do other revision. There arent any revision sessions but school are giving out papers for the holidays. They are threatening so prom if they dont go in..

This makes no sense to me from schools. Revision at school is often less productive than revision at home, as classrooms are louder, teachers can't taylor revision to individual students so often revise topics some students don't need revising at the expense of other topics they do need to revise etc etc. It's really mean at this stage to threaten with prom attendance. At least at our school prom is organised by the parents, so no one is excluded.

DD was a bit sad about English Lang, she said she went blank. It’s been such a tough week, she crashed out on the sofa for 3 hours this afternoon with the dog. Everyone is running on fumes, including me - today is the most Friday Thursday ever. I can’t wait for the long weekend, thankfully DD is done until 1 June

Walkingbkwrm · Yesterday 19:17

I got “it was ok”. All the others have been “fine” or “not fine at all”. Not sure whether ok is better or worse than fine. Sadly he has physics tomorrow morning as he looks done in. He did about an hours revision in which he mostly stared blankly at the revision guide and has now been enticed to watch a movie with his dad. Physics not his strong point but little we/he can do about it now.

Glad other people’s seem to have gone ok.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · Yesterday 17:24

@Garble it won’t hinder him unless he plans to be the next Philip Pullman.
my son’s prepared story also worked.

I meant more his attitude for all the other exams! It’s only adding to the nonchalance and extremely casual attitude he has

Shame about the physics tomorrow as agree they desperately need a break. Which board is that as I thought physics wasn’t until after Half term?

Walkingbkwrm · Yesterday 19:46

WJEC (we are in Wales and they don’t seem to quite align in all cases) @happylittlebirdy

applecrumblespider · Yesterday 20:27

I've had "good" to cover English and Latin today.

WydeStrype · Yesterday 20:46

Just 'could have been worse' here.

Now trying on outfits for Boardmasters so not too worried for PE tomorrow....

Funkylights · Yesterday 23:28

Looking at insta / snap most of our Yr11 have been having a blast today celebrating last full day with as finish early tomorrow or after morning exams. Lots of celebrating tomorrow and then I guess the last 3.5 weeks push

Beachforever · Yesterday 23:55

DD had a shocker of an iGCSE Eng language exam today. Her mind went blank in the creative writing question and she hardly wrote a thing apparently. There were a few tears. I think she’s just exhausted.

She then had a 20 minute break but they were not allowed to leave the exam hall and then had Latin. That went well thankfully.

She has economics tomorrow and has only just put her books away and gone to bed. She is extremely nervous about tomorrow and so was refusing to stop revising.

I cannot wait until tomorrow lunchtime when she gets home and we can just breathe for a day or 2.

UncomfortableSilence · Today 05:51

Good luck to any DC that have papers today. DD is done and just has a double Maths revision this morning then they’ve been told they can leave so they are all off to the park.

It was so lovely when I put my head round her door last night to say goodnight she was wrapped in a blanket watching a film rather than revising.

We’ve got a busy weekend of celebrations for DD1s 21st so she is having the weekend off, a bit of a break is so needed and very much looking forward to the beautiful weather forecast where we are.

Just a staff inset day for me and finally feel like I can breathe for the first time in 2 weeks!

PE this morning for my DS - be is totally unfazed . Can’t wait for the half term break

Tebheag · Today 06:49

Good luck all doing PE today or any other subjects.
DD has her last two classes today then leavers assembly before going on study leave. Going out with friends to join the rest of her year tonight then having weekend off before starting revision on Monday or Tuesday.

Littletreefrog · Today 07:01

Leavers assembly, leavers hoodies handed out, shirt signing, photos, apparently then 1 lesson (in which no one will be concentrating) then home early for DS.

First week back after half term is in school all day again but the week after they have study leave. I wish they would have chosen one method or the other or just swapped after half term when there was a natural break. The change in way of working just for one week is going to really disrupt DS and I feel like that last week is going too be a wash out revision wise.

whereonthestair · Today 07:42

DS managed to get excluded from his leavers assembly because he hadn’t finished his English language exam after extra time had been added. The school had promised me this would not happen. There is nothing I can do about it now, but it is just a sad end to what had generally been a good school for DS.

fortunately DS now on study leave, and no more exams until 2 June.

whereonthestair · Today 07:42

Good luck to those with PE exams, or exams in Wales

MabelsBeats · Today 07:43

@whereonthestairthat is appalling I’m so sorry. What is wrong with these schools.

Avie29 · Today 07:47

Littletreefrog · Yesterday 17:08

It's very much down to the school. Some kids are on study leave and have been for a while. Some are still meant to be in full time, some are in full time but they won't object if for some reason they would be better off at home. I believe it does go down as unauthorized absence if it's just add hoc time off when they are officially still mean to be in full time.

Yea i get that, i just don’t understand why the school are ringing to ask parents permission and then sending them home when they aren’t supposed to?

Bluebelle8261 · Today 08:03

Beautiful sunny day and off to school she goes. No revision sessions, no special events planned....

LattePatty · Today 08:04

@whereonthestair- that’s awful I’m sorry.

Finally spoke to my son late last night (he was out with friends when I got home from work) and he said English language and Latin went well. I believe him for the Latin as it’s his strongest subject, and time will tell for English language because it was his weakest at mocks.

No exams until after half term for him now. Which is why he was out with friends last night.

Good luck to all who have exams today.

I don't understand? So someone came to check that he had answered all the questions? That is so sad :-( i am so sorryx

makemineadecaf · Today 08:06

I’m amazed so many kids are still at school. We’ve been on study leave since 1st May which is been fantastic. Kids can go in if they want and study in the library and access teachers during what would have been their usual lesson time if they want to, but otherwise only in for exams. Give the kids a break!!

I think it will be because some kids are going home and some kids aren't and ultimately the decision lies with the parents. They should have explained to you it would go down as unauthorized absence though so you could make an informed decision.

That's so disappointing. Are they allowed to look at his exam paper? I imagined they all got collected in and sent away without the teachers seeing them.

NotDarkGothicMama · Today 08:43

DS has sauntered off to school for his PE exam this morning, completely unbothered and more invested in the 20p in his pocket for a Refresher.

I'm so glad it's half-term term after today. I randomly broke down in tears on Tuesday evening, for no immediate reason. If I'm this stressed as just a parent, no wonder some of the kids are a mess.
