Did you have a DD join Tiffin boys at sixth form?

How was it for them? Would they recommend it? What was their experience like? Do the girls feel fully integrated and respected?

Thanks

My daughter joined last year and is very happy there. She feels extremely included and has a lovely group of friends both boys and girls.

Thank you for your reply, that’s really helpful. DD can be quite reserved but hopefully she will find her people wherever she ends up.

My DD is also considering Tiffin Boys for sixth form, she applied online and is waiting for GCSE results. In the meantime, I was wondering, how does it work on the results day? Do they accept the offer from their current school, then wait for Tiffin to confirm their offer and then, if offered, reject the current school?

rainsbows · 12/08/2025 18:47

Very difficult if in a private school. We’re considering this for next year for dd however we’d have to give a term’s notice at her current school but every chance she’s not given a tiffins place or hold current school, get Tiffin then forfeit a terms fees!

eggman007 · 20/08/2025 16:24

Does anyone know if it pays to submit results early? I'm assuming not but also wondering how they allocate if they have more kids with top grades than places.....

Yes, it's been a painful day! My DD got 7 x 9s and 3 x 8s which I don't think is enough. Apparently more offers are being made tomorrow but can't imagine there'll be many rejections as people wouldn't bother submitting grades today if they didn't want the space.

Oh well, we'll find out soon enough!

rainsbows · 22/08/2025 06:37

@eggman007good luck let us know. This will be us this time next year! Have you got a plan B?

eggman007 · 22/08/2025 06:57

@rainbows She has a place at KGS which is fantastic but £60k more expensive! (well £50k if you count the £10k that will be lost in any case 😱)

rainsbows · 22/08/2025 07:38

Yikes! Yep same boat we’re in. It’s eye watering.

Is this the girls school or boys coed sixth form?

dontdarepokethebear · 22/08/2025 10:11

@Slippersandrum Congratulations to your daughter for receiving a place even though she didn’t take it up. Sounds like she’ll be very happy where she is. Out of interest, do you mind me asking what were her GCSE results and how many km from the school do you live?

That’s a fair distance. Saves her a pretty awkward commute getting there but congrats to her for those great grades.

We live in the school’s borough, 3.5 miles from the school so we will apply for next year.

So we got an offer in the end and accepted - seems like she just scraped in with 7 grade 9s, how insane is that.

I agree that the process has been shocking, they’ve really put us through the wringer over the last 2 years, mainly because they kept shifting the goalposts over whether they’d be using predicted grades or final grades. My son is there already (in Year 9) and, whilst it’s a fantastic school in many ways, they really do need to work more on creating supportive, organised processes that don’t pile on extra stress for people. They’re a bit ‘computer says no’.

My poor friend is now still waiting to hear about her daughter who also got 7 x 9s and both emotionally drained by the whole experience.

good luck next year Rainbows - main take home is have a strong plan B in place and don’t put too much pressure on yourselves x

Can I ask what she is studying at A-level - humanities/arts or STEM?

We've noticed that applying for anything maths/science seems to be way harder to get into Tiffin for.

Whereas if you apply for English, French, History etc, there is a higher chance as these courses aren't so oversubscribed by the existing cohort all of which are boys and therefore more like to take STEM subjects.

Thank you and many congrats to your DD!!

rainsbows · 22/08/2025 18:36

Congrats @eggman007! Also interested to hear what subjects she’s gone for

Whatsnextforus · 22/08/2025 19:48

Also interested. My daughter is hoping to apply next year for History, politics and German

eggman007 · 23/08/2025 00:05

So her subjects are Maths, Economics, Spanish & Psychology. Her friend who didn’t get in applied for Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

so yes, I think her subject choices possibly played a role.

it is a really lovely school and pretty laid back for the kids once they’re in. Good luck!
