Next thread. 10 days of exams to go. Looks like we’re all heading into a busy week this week - good luck!

DD2 got the longest exam today 2 and half hours.

Then last tommorow.

High school was a bit of a social and academic let down here too.

That been true for all my DC - very keen to see the back of the school. Given the treatment DS got in just before and during his GCSE exams two years ago we've been wanting to be though with the school for a long time.

DD1 friends all went to different colleges but stayed in touch and reguarly met up - suspect DD2 will be similar. I don't know if it's my kids the college type - it's a regional college with multiple campuses and people travel long distances- but while they've had people to talk to in class and are happy to do arranged trips by college they've not really socialised outside of that. They've still much much happier than in school.

We don't like how the sixth form set up - from them having same uniform as rest of the school - to how to offer a range of a-level they bus them to other schools - buses don't always turn up and communication with school isn't great - between schools a lot get missed. To the dire careers advice and hyper focus on the one outstanding oxbridge student they get every three or four years.

I hadn't seen the Y13 threads in futher education - DS only got one left tommorow now and then it's wait and see about next step.

Prom pretty much sorted for DD2 - she had dress a while - amazon buy and so much better than expected - shoes - flats - tights, stick on bra, make-up, hair things all got. It's out of step with the sexy numbers many of her friends have but she loves it and several quiet/ND friends who weren't going now are as she is - so she'll have close friends there.

Ratty is done!

Just having a shower to wash school off then we are going into town, after picking up the other done teen, where I am allowed to treat them to lunch.

House is in uproar but it can wait until we get back have the rest of the summer to sort it out.

Ratty said he thought he would "feel more" now he's finished, I reckon it's going to take a couple of days of legal NoRevision for it to fully sink in!

No prom here but a day out later in the month to a theme park and leaver's assembly to get through. But that's next week, this week is to eat in the shade in the garden, chill and see what happens next.

I am assuming his 6th form is casual dress. God he would hate shoes again, trainers all the way please.
We shall see not important today.

QueenMabby · 17/06/2025 11:16

Spanish is done! Dd will be bringing a chuckle to a Spanish examiner near you with her rant on how mental health is important and doing lots of exams is bad for mental health and it’s important to take breaks from revision to get outdoors! 🤣 Apparently she had 45 mins of checking time so kept adding to her answers! 🙄

Just FM tomorrow now.

DS did that question. He said he wrote 210 words instead of 150! They don't penalise you for more but you can lose marks for errors 😬. It is his best subject so fingers crossed. He is happy he managed to use a past imperfect subjunctive reflexive verb 🤣.

DS1's school had to wear a dark suit and the school tie 🙁, definitely no trainers. Twins' sixth form seems a bit more casual but still smartish trousers, no jeans. I think trainers are OK, maybe smart trainers. Not checked, though DD is already excited for purchasing her clothes.

BellaI · 17/06/2025 11:33

We are finished!! DD very happy with AQA Spanish higher paper, but it’s one of her favourite subjects. It’s not sunk in yet that she’s now free! Leavers assembly shirt signing and prom on Thurs. I have spent more than I would have liked on a dress and alterations but as she’s had a fairly tough time the past few years I wanted her to feel happy and confident in her dress. Luckily the shoes were from Asda and she will do own hair and make up! We are going to a friend’s house beforehand for pictures.
I hope that after a good rest on holiday she will be motivated to look for a PT job!

Timetochangeagaint · 17/06/2025 11:33

Spanish was apparently better than expected 🤞- but he’s already forgotten what he wrote about … just Further Maths tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for hay fever help yesterday - he tried the nasal spray in the end and I think it has helped

Poisoningpigeons · 17/06/2025 12:08

DC have chosen two very different, both not-prom-like, dresses. Both wearing trainers, only make-up will be lip gloss. This is very 'them.' The only real special-occasion concession is that they are going to the hairdresser to have wash, trim and proper blow-dry.

They haven't messaged about Spanish yet and are staying in school this PM to work on Further Maths with their friends. Apparently.

SuperTrooper14 · 17/06/2025 12:31

DD is still asleep! Went in a while ago to wake her and got a muffled "I need to keep sleeping" while she rolled over. Screw it - if she's that tired, I'm letting her be.

ThisPerkySloth2 · 17/06/2025 12:34

@QueenMabby will you be doing a Year 12 25/26 thread? the existing Year 12 is 24/25. different cohort? i'm not sure how these things work!!!!!

VivaDixie · 17/06/2025 13:01

DS finished at 10:05am this morning and I still havent seen him! 😂 He is off into town with his friend which warms my soul so we may not see him for a while!

He is finished - thats it - all done. I am so excited for his future.

Screw school! 😂

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 17/06/2025 13:15

DS2 said addition maths was fine - very few lasted to actually take the exam -- it's been after school lessons - including a very acadmic friend scupper by a science retake and art GCSE.

So however she does it's an achievement to get to the exam.

She got one left - they've had maternity cover all year - and doing past papers a long question every year not been covered this year at all. Unfortunately there aren't revison books for this subject let alone for this exam board. Teachers gone already - one on maternity leave not back properly yet - and several of them have issue DS had two years ago where their work taken in for inspections and not returned ( school not long out of special measures).

So they've had to work together - there was one afternoon on it last year - when some were sitting a Y10 GCSE exam and a work sheet amoungst a lot of others. From this and on-line resouces and past papers they've cobble togther a quick summary and shared it with rest of the small class. It's another group that's lost a lot before the exam season started.

Yes. I will keep these threads going. Once we get to results day I’ll change year 11 to year 12 to ready us for the next steps!

So, first day of the rest of his life!!!!! Whoo- Hoo!!!
No lie- in, but no complaints ( got a McD 🍟!).

We went to his Epilepsy Appt. New Consultant, his favourite one he’d had since he was 3 left while ago. He was introducing himself to DS, who mentioned he’d just finished his GCSEs. Dr asks “ So, you are expecting to do very well in them?”, in what sounded like ( and obviously was!!) a kind doctorly question, but also sounded like he was expecting a “ Yes, Doctor, 9 GCSES at 8s and 9s and I want to do Medicine”, or something. My heart skipped for a sec, but I was so bloody proud when DS replied “ Yes! I think so! Well, I hope so, because if I pass FOUR with Grade 4 I'm allowed to go skydiving, and, if I get a Grade 6 in Maths, Mum is doing it too”! To his credit, Dr was fab! Wished him luck and said “ are you sure you are game for that, as Mum does not look like she is game for that”…,.
No Shit, Sherlock!! I could have kissed him!!

So, I’m really enjoying watching as more of you finish! This is so exciting! I love watching the happiness and relief spread……..🌟🌟🌟😻😻😻😻!!

It does feel like we've lost the plot completely but while there's an outside chance of saying something that sinks in & helps them it's worth a go.

AQA Spanish Higher was okay for least favourite subject.
