New thread to help us get through the next week or so!

Slightly random question but a lot of DC on here seem to be doing igcse - has anyone found any grade boundaries online - I’m struggling to find anything useful and DS2 who did his English Language igcse early is feeding me all sorts of misinformation ( I think) about his course work scores and what grade it’s likely to be . What exams has everyone else got left this week?

DD only has the final maths paper, but is trying to get her college assignments in too (for animal care) which is stressing her as she reckons she hasn't been taught the info for the final one.

History tomorrow. Big black cloud of dread has now descended on the house. DD has been revising for it but nothing seems to be sticking.

It’s not playing the system. They get assessed to see whether they qualify for extra time (it’s very rigorous testing) those that do absolutely need it.

So if you felt like your DD needed extra time (or the school did) they could have had her assessed. I don’t think you get it for being disorganised though. I’m not sure about anxiety. Working memory can be tested and if it falls below a certain percentage then they get extra time. Apparently my DS’s working memory went from bad to ok so he didn’t qualify.

Edited

You can get it for acute anxiety. We had to provide GP letter and CAMHs referral details and DD's previous exam performances/grades were also taken into account.

TeenToTwenties · 04/06/2025 13:40

@ExamStuff

So pleased DD did Functional Skills English last year so has avoided Eng Lang again. She wouldn't cope with Maths & English in same week.

Animal Care is a great course for DD, she has loved animals since young. They have a day of practical each week (favourite rotation is walking the dogs) and then a couple of days equivalent theory. She wants to work in a kennels. She did 2 years at level 1, then had a 'gap year', and is now doing level 2. (Has an EHCP originally for her MH, missed all y11 back in 2021).

Ah that’s good. I’m glad that’s there’s support there.

History tomorrow and geography on Friday here! Fact learning central. I know more than I ever expected to about the Vietnam war..( hopefully DC does too)

History & Geography. That is a lot of facts!

Did you request access arrangements to allow her more time because of her diabetes?

You don’t get extra time for T1D. There are no allowances other than the ability to take a glucose monitor and glucose into the exam.

I had a little look but then I gave up! DS did ok on the coursework (after an awful mock) so I’m just hoping that helps a bit. Sorry not to have more info.

Delatron · 04/06/2025 13:45

History and Geography here too. At the beginning of the week DS said ‘what exam do I have on Friday?’ God help us. He’s in school so I can only hope he is doing enough there…

I think it could depend on the board. My DS did edxcel iGCSE for English and their grade boundaries are online.

Same! Although I do better on the America module. 😂

If anyone has got any hacks for retaining dates we are all ears. DD is okay on the overall picture but can't remember specific dates.

That course sounds great. I am a big animal lover. I’m so pleased your daughter has found a course she enjoys and it’s amazing that she has a career in mind for afterwards, especially as it sounds like she’s has had a difficult time in the last few years. I really hope she does well.

Eccle80 · 04/06/2025 13:48

History, French, English and geography here 😭

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 04/06/2025 13:49

DD2 got RS this afternoon, French tommorow and last English lang Friday.

Then it's not till next week when second maths - which matters then additional maths and textiles.

Still full or cold and not feeling great - but she ploughing on.

DS has awful time last year first lot of exams there was a change in format - the exam board had complaints and shurgged said they told teachers- you can see in results take time two exams to get back on track - this years so far - touch wood - it's gone much better.

I realised it's really him worry is mostly coming from - not that it's his fault - as college have been postive in results and p/t meets then literally before exams here are predicted and then way lower expected - as DH says WTF are we supposed to do with that that late. It's based of exams when he was finishing computer science and welsh bacc coursework off. Though DD2 being tired from cold is a worry and it's impacting revison but this stage it's better she rests.

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 04/06/2025 13:50

We've got English and Geography on Friday.

DD loves English and despises Geography with a passion.

She came downstairs yesterday to say she's found a whole section that she doesn't think they've been taught, so I am now basically writing it off. I have offered to help, she has a tutor (who she doesn't like but who I feel probably finds their sessions akin to walking barefoot over broken glass) and it's like talking to a brick wall.

Are there any exciting video resources out there for Edexcel Geography B?

My DD is doing Animal Care Level 3 instead of A-levels from Sept. In fact, I think we've already discussed it on another thread! Glad to hear your DD is still thriving on it.

Pretty sure they have that course for geography - it was nearest we could get at time for DS few years ago.

Though tend to find Senca not something to rely on - more a well it's something they'll sit and do.

I know, it’s a tough couple of days for him. On the upside, once he’s has got to Friday he is over the worst, and all but one exam left are science and maths which are his best ones.

VivaDixie · 04/06/2025 13:56

I don't want to start this up again but I just want to thank @ExamStuff and @SuperTrooper14 for your support (and others who have contributed the same). I left for an hour and honestly if you both hadn't come on I think I would have left this thread for good. Coming back to the thread and reading through the ablism set my anxiety on edge. This was (is) an extremely supportive thread for everyone of every level - the blatant ablism was upsetting to read.

Another one here who has a DS who gets extra time and a laptop - I swear he (and we) would swap your 'level playing field' arguments for DSs challenges any day. Challenges we have had since Y3. As a pp said - it is not just the exams but it is the exhaustion of revision and all the challenges that come with that.

Anyway - as you were. We have History tomorrow morning - Normans and Health and the People - the cloud of doom has once again descended here too.

I found it really upsetting too but hopefully that's the last of it.

Delatron · 04/06/2025 14:05

It is upsetting. The thread has been so helpful and supportive- a bit like therapy! Hopefully we are back on track now.

Don’t suppose anyone’s child does foundation Edexcel International Maths? I’ll get nothing from DS but he really needs to get the pass in this one so hoping it was ok.

I found it really upsetting too but hopefully that's the last of it.

I also have found it upsetting that when I feel I have failed my child for not getting her the proper support I get piled on.

Anyway I am going to bow out, not I hasten to add because I was ordered to by some nasty characters on here who know nothing about my or my DD's tragic situation, but because I have found their attitude really malicious

Good luck to you all

TeenToTwenties · 04/06/2025 14:07

For those with DC who find academics hard, college has been fab for my DD.
She has gone from being continually asked to do things she can't do, to doing things she can .
