Does anyone know what today’s AQA poem was, please?

My daughter reeled off a list in order of preference last night, and after the exam has only said it’s not one of the ones she really wanted but she managed to link it to Bayonet Charge (?)

Exposure with a theme of conflict.

That’s all good then. The poem was Exposure, which was the one DD chose when given Bayonet Charge. She got a great mark on the question so good choice by your dd l, good omen @strawlight

Thanks @QueenMabbyOp for always creating our threads so brilliantly. I didn't actually expect you to use my suggested wording!

It was too good not to share with everyone!

My DD did Blood Brothers and it was a question about social class which she had a practice question on earlier in the week so feels she has hit lucky.

Next up Science on Thursday.

Whoooo · 20/05/2025 15:41

Dd said edexcel J&H questions were a gift but the poetry wasn't great - odd choice for L&R

MackenCheese · 20/05/2025 15:44

DD doing sociology this afternoon. She has extra time, and she's still not out yet!! I guess at least it doesn't mean her mind went blank and she left early....

Araminta1003 · 20/05/2025 15:57

DD said English lit was “Good. Nobody cried”

waitingquietly · 20/05/2025 16:04

Worst exam for DS L&R and AIC so far he said he couldn’t compare the poem . Doesn’t want to talk about it so I’m not really any the wiser .

day at home tomorrow at least and I’m making his fav tea

Hollyhedge · 20/05/2025 16:14

DS thinks exam went pretty well ‘better than expected’. Unseen v good, poetry good used War Photographer which he knew v well, AIC decent did Sheila and Gerard (Gerald?)

Seems a bit more upbeat. Says not going to school tomor so will be a whole day of physics…

DD also said everyone was happy with J&H, but poem for Conflict was Catrin, which she was happy with but everyone had assumed they'd get a war one. Unseen was fine and not as weird as AQA's one.

All you can do. My mission is to keep his morale up….

Hollyhedge · 20/05/2025 16:25

Who had the idea of post exam treat? This was not a good idea! I have moved on to fruit platters now as apparently too much sugar 🤣

Whoooo · 20/05/2025 16:31

Dd says the unseen was "weird" and on fireworks (?)

frozendaisy · 20/05/2025 16:33

Eng Lit (Eduqas) sound decent.
CompSci application - could go either side of a 7. (That will do cockle).

Now for the task to get him ready that whatever they throw at them for physics “he’s got this” - this is for him and him alone this is his favourite, degree choice, love of his life. So in theory should be almost enjoyable.

My DDs poem was about a table.

VioletIndigoBlueGreen · 20/05/2025 16:38

DS was also, like many other DC on this thread, positive about Eng Lit this afternoon. He’s got RE tomorrow, Physics on Thurs and Eng Lang on Friday, but is super relieved to have Eng Lit over with now.

Tomorrow sees RE also finished forever, and he’ll be halfway through his total number of exams which is a good milestone. He’s really tired so hoping he gets a good rest over half term as well as doing the necessary work.

'Fireworks' and 'After The Fireworks' apparently. Also got 'weird' as feedback.

DD appears to have used a completely different poem for comparison in Conflict compared with all her friends. She seems firm that she picked the right one for what she wanted, but suspect there will be panic later.

Is there a right one or wrong one to pick? Or can you pick what you like as long as you can make the right analysis/quotes/comments?

Whoooo · 20/05/2025 16:44

I'm not sure it's about right and wrong per se but more about analysis and comparison

BobBobBobbing · 20/05/2025 16:50

Dd said english was ok, although she ran out of time at the end. RE tomorrow- a compulsory subject at their school as it is CofE. Bit miffed about that as it wasn't compulsory when they started school and it does limit their options. It's working ok for DD, but was a terrible option for her brother who ended up with a 3.

Takeaway for tea tonight given it's her little brother's birthday.

stickygotstuck · 20/05/2025 16:51

Araminta1003 · 20/05/2025 15:57

I like your DD's style! 😁

Thanks for the new thread!

Not great for DD. She wrote a lot of good stuff for the first two questions but didn't have time to even start on the unseen poem. As I suspected, she just ran out of energy.

Trying to get her to have a nap this afternoon or she won't last the two exams tomorrow. She's normally unable to sleep during the day, so hoping for a good night's sleep.

clary · 20/05/2025 16:54

No there is no right or wrong one. AQA was about conflict so you could literally pick anything that talked about that. Any of the war ones obvs but equally My Last Duchess (as if you would) or even London if you talked about the conflict within society. I mean that's not the one I would choose but if you argue your points then it's fine.

This was Edexcel, but thank you. Conflict poem, but relationships not war.

I've been dreading it if there is some kind of set rules of what goes with what and the dawning realisation, but sounds like it's very flexible. Phew.

CakeFace1234 · 20/05/2025 17:03

DS mentioned the unseen poetry was about a table. Lots struggled with this.

Hollyhedge · 20/05/2025 17:12

babystarsandmoon · 20/05/2025 16:38

My DDs poem was about a table.

Same. Apparently family was a common theme
