Here is the new thread for when part 1 is full.

@redrobin75 glad I missed that then! Thanks for the info

Schools that have a big coach network where a lot of their students reply on it tend to make their lives around it, a lot more than the schools without the network, which is more local.

I was also wondering about the sport at DC. For example the rugby or football. When do they do the practices for this if you are on the team? Do they have a morning practice? For example my dd at G&L has netball practice once a week in the morning, lunch and after school. She also does hockey, so this means she needs to get to school early for those two days. I am wondering if at Dulwich they also have sports practice in the mornings sometimes (as I think this would make it a clear deal breaker, since he would not be able to take the coach earlier to get there for morning sport).

Why don't you ask DC to share their clubs timetable? We did so for another school with a wide catchment and a coach network for this exact worry. They were happy to send tge timetable for extras and we quickly
realised that most are packed during the school day (ie very long lunch club) or after school with a late coach option. The life for the most part evolves around the coach timetable.

For my DC's school, similar to Dulwich, the early morning sports club is the swim squad and nothing else.

Sass22 · 01/03/2025 20:36

@SamPoodle123 clubs are usually lunchtime or after school. My son used to take the coach when he was much younger he's now in sixth-form and would take the later coach if he had training. Morning clubs are usually swim squads but also have a lunchtime option, cycling club, or running. My son did a lot of sport swimming, waterpolo, rugby and cricket. All were either at lunch or after school. He now only does rugby and water polo. There are optional late time trips to theatre or exhibition, etc, but more so for GCSEs/Alevels.

MellowStork · 01/03/2025 20:52

Would anyone who went to the offer holders day at Dulwich, and heard from Roberl Milne, the incoming Master, care to share what they thought of him? I have been impressed with him as a Head at Emanuel and would love to know what his vision is for DC.

Cleta · 01/03/2025 21:30

We have accepted the offer from King’s college and declined Hampton, LU, Kgs, Dulwich.
We were in the waiting list for Alleyn’s & Emanuel which we thought we will definitely have an offer, both schools asked my son the list of other schools which we have applied. 🥺 Thankfully, both were not our top choice. It was hard to decide between Kings and Hampton, we ended up with Kings because it is closer to house, and was always our top choice. We decided right after the OH Day.
We will receive Grammar outcomes this Monday, and Wilson’s was our top choice there. What do you think about Wilson’s ?

MumBoyx3 · 01/03/2025 22:06

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is on the LU WL or knew anyone who was for sure? We were told that LU doesn’t have a WL. I am genuinely interested to hear people’s knowledge on this?

Yes, we know someone. But they call it the reserve list. Curious why you are asking and curious why someone would say they dont have a wait list. I assume reserve list means the same thing, just different name?

He didn't talk about vision for DC as he said he doesn't know much about DC yet given he will start in September. He didn't talk much but we like him and accepted offer after the talk.

MumBoyx3 · 01/03/2025 22:53

We were told by the school themselves that they don’t have a wait list/reserve list. So we’re surprised to hear that other parents have been told something different.

Dallasdays · 01/03/2025 22:57

@MumBoyx3 that's odd. The offer letter that we got from LU refers to the reserve list (please let us know asap in fairness to children who have been placed on our reserve list - paraphrasing but that's the gist).

anotherusername2001 · 01/03/2025 22:59

LU do have a wait list / reserve list.
i think someone posted up thread they had a WL place and I know of others this year and in previous years.

That is very odd indeed. I am surprised you were told that. Maybe it is just a mix up.

SamPoodle123 · 01/03/2025 23:04

@MumBoyx3 just checked our offer email and like @Dallasdays mentions children have been placed on reserve list. I assume it must be a misunderstanding.

They must feel very confident on their offer strategy. I didn’t realise there was no waitlist. Are you still keen on a place?

Thanks all for the confirmation. That is the information we were given and we were indeed surprised so asked them what they would do if they had offers declined? They said that based on previous statistics they offered accordingly and specifically told us that there was no reserve list.

Thankfully we have offers at other great schools but was just surprised at their strategy.

seniorschoolchoices · 02/03/2025 01:27

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the lovely parents on here! The advice has been great, Accepted Hampton and have a very happy DS. Feels so much better to have made a choice now!
Wishing everyone luck with their decisions!

Hmm, I find this so strange that they would say this. Esp since the offer emails mention a reserve list. I have not heard of any schools that dont do WL, so odd the person told you this. Ah well, if your dc is not on the reserve list, not much else you can do anyway. But like you say, you have other offers at great schools, so that is good. Which schools are you trying to decide between? What is your first choice?

simona28 · 02/03/2025 11:34

Dear all thank you for your thoughts and advice. We have finally decided on CLGS for DD given her strong preference and after having spoken to a few current parents and girls about the commute. We are now giving up G&L, LU, PHS today. All the best to those on the reserve lists for these schools.

If there are others going to CLGS on this thread, will be great to connect, else see you there in September :-)

CruCru · 03/03/2025 08:42

Congratulations to all of those who have made a decision!

All

I know that I am a bore but today is the state schools offer day. If you have applied to a state school but are going to take the independent place, please let the state school spot go as soon as you are able. Every year there are schools where a few children don’t turn up (because there is no financial penalty in hanging on to the place).

It makes things difficult for children who are offered their first choice months after they have been told they are going to their second / third choice (sometimes after they’ve already started).

For those waiting for grammar school places - good luck! I hope you get what you want.

Well said CruCru. I suspect DD will be allocated Chestnut Grove in Balham which we will release at 5.01pm!

Stuck between Habs boys and CLS… both great and my son loved both..! But both very different with their own pros and cons!
