pigtailroad · 10/12/2024 07:33

hi, parents, just received a letter from the school KEHS that our DD put under their waiting list to get into KEHS year 7 in Sept 2025, i am wondering the school will put all failure applicants to waiting list? or only a few border line girls under such waiting list? any replies are welcome, thank you all

Well, she and the others aren’t failures because they got the qualifying score or she wouldn’t be on any list. I would imagine the list would contain all pupils who reached the minimum score in rank order assuming within the KES catchment.

pigtailroad · 10/12/2024 08:03

thank you Gardendiary, my DD applying KEHS King Edward IV High School for Girls, your reply is useful for us and if you know this school general situations, can you tell us usually this girls school will have much girls turning down the offer or just a few girls on waiting list can get into the school year 7 finally? thank you again and others replies are welcome also

IME not many turn down the offer, but a number do choose to leave during y7 which opens up spaces. It’s usually down to not enjoying the school/friendship issues etc

I haven’t worked for a KE school but worked in admissions for other schools nearby.

pigtailroad · 10/12/2024 10:36

thank you LeafHunter of your valuable inputs especially u work in school nearby, in such case, will KEHS call the waiting list girl(s) to fill up the space whose dropped during year 7 after Sept? or if we still want to get into KEHS, we better proactively let KEHS know our DD is ready anytime even after Sept when such space coming up? thx in advance of many of you who can provide us some thoughts 🙏🏻

I think some people may be assuming that @pigtailroad is asking about a King Edwards state grammar school, but KEHS is one of the Foundation's private schools, so the situation is rather different.

@Gardendiary there is not a qualifying score for the private school entrance exams, which are completely separate from the state school 11 plus. The school will have tested all the applicants, interviewed some, made some offers, rejected some and placed others on a waiting list.

@pigtailroad I'm afraid I don't know how many people KEHS put on their waiting list, but I am sure that they will have rejected quite a number of applicants, and would not have a ridiculous number of girls on their waiting list. I do think you will be in with a chance. Well done to your daughter, and fingers crossed to you!

Gardendiary · 10/12/2024 10:57

Ahh yes, I was referring to the KES schools for which you sit the 11+. Would be quite different for private.

pigtailroad · 10/12/2024 12:16

thx anyway to all replied me above, yes, LetitGoToRuin is correct, i m asking about the private school KEHS King Edward IV High School for Girls at Birmingham, will appreciate if there are kind peoples providing us inputs if they know girls on waiting list can finally get into KEHS year 7 🙏🏻, or any advises are welcome with thanks

one more, our DD was invited to interview, KEHS will not tell why the girls are interviewed but anyway KEHS is very kind during the whole application progress to our DD and it is highly appreciated that they will consider all girls from different backgrounds 🙏🏻

My niece goes there, as did I (and my sisters back in the day). Notball candidates will have been put on the waiting list, so well done DD. Not everyone takes up the place, one of my sisters got in from the waiting list. Several people will be holding on to see if they get Camp Hill and may decline their place in March. It's a waiting game.

pigtailroad · 10/12/2024 13:28

@murasaki , thank you telling me about your family members getting into KEHS in the past, we will wait and see how the result of the game 🙏🏻

murasaki · 10/12/2024 13:33

Good luck, it's a great school.

murasaki · 10/12/2024 13:34

And thanks for reminding me to check in with my sister re niece2!

DibbleDooDah · 11/12/2024 10:33

I agree that once the grammar offers come out that there will likely be movement, particularly with the introduction of VAT.

it never hurts to drop admissions a line thanking them for the waitlist offer and stating that you will accept a school place should one be offered at a later date.

Then it’s likely to be a waiting game until 1st March I’m afraid.

pigtailroad · 11/12/2024 13:42

yes, thx @DibbleDooDah

we were drafting such email since Monday Dec 9th, just wondering we should send it out this month in Dec or next year around early March 🤔

OP posts:
murasaki · 11/12/2024 14:31

I'd do it this week as a response to their letter.

DibbleDooDah · 11/12/2024 14:44

Yes, send it now in response to their waitlist offer letter. Then just wait

pigtailroad · 12/12/2024 09:54

thank you again of advises above, email sent to KEHS admission office this morning saying thank you and also our willingness to accept an offer when the place is available. we welcome any further comments from now to March 2025 🙏🏻

such a long waiting period of months 🥺

So niece 2 has an offer, but also one for EHS which was her favorite, although apparently she's now dithering. They have until the end of Feb to decide, so that could be a place freed up, just to give you a real life example of how it works. And of course Camp Hill is in the mix there possibly.

@murasaki , happy for your niece2 having her several favourite schools offers in the meantime, may i know why she likes EHS more than KEHS?

because EHS has it s own preparatory school, originally i think EHS senior school year 7 spaces will be not much left for the “outsiders” 🤔, it seems that in reality, there are quite some outsiders will join EHS year 7 finally

OP posts:
murasaki · 13/12/2024 10:20

I was surprised about her preference. She likes both but thought EHS was a better fit, she's quite a bouncy girl! Saying that, she's also has a taster lesson there so maybe can see herself in class, whereas KEHS's isn't until February.

WhineyVaginey · 13/12/2024 14:10

@pigtailroad My daughter got a place off the waiting list 5 years ago. If memory serves me, it was after the acceptance date for state offers, early March I think.
So there is movement, even with over offering (which is quite normal for all independent schools from what I've been led to understand). Also an extra class was added last year - perhaps in advance of VAT hike?.

Anyway, best of luck to your daughter.

Notsoeasy24 · 22/12/2024 09:31

Jumping on this thread. My daughter has a place at kehs and ehs. I am hearing not so good comments about kehs which is a bit of a dilemma. Any views?

DibbleDooDah · 22/12/2024 10:22

What are you hearing about KEHS? It’s very common for those who weren’t successful in gaining a place to “talk it down”. Listen only to people with girls actually there right now.

WhineyVaginey · 22/12/2024 15:55

@Notsoeasy24 what was it you wanted to know? My dd is in lower 6th, just finished her gcse's this summer. Really happy there, has made lovely friends in the girls & the boys. Teaching is great, loads of opportunity to find your 'thing' academic or extra curricula wise.
The girls do hold themselves to high standards - but the school were very adamant for parents to 'lay off' during exam season.
Usual falling outs in lower years until they find their "people". Girls seem to mature if a little 'naive' I find in some respects.
My dd is in the very privileged position to be on 100% bursary, it's never been a thing, flaunting wealth is a big no, no. None of her friends have ever been bothered about coming & staying in my scruffy little house in a not so nice part of the city.
Teachers are really approachable- the first parents evening I ever went to, her two language teachers told me she was a natural linguist. She took 4 languages at GCSE, passed them all with 9's (not so humble brag😊) - so they just 'get' the girls.
I've heard great things about EHS & I know of a few swaps from EHS to us & the other way round.
Horses for courses I suppose. I entered my DD for KEHS & the 11+, didn't do EHS as I couldn't afford the exam fee at the time. I'm so hugely grateful that she's had a chance to go there. If there's anything in particular you like to know, please feel free to ask me or DM.
And best of luck to your dd whatever she decides, what a fantastic dilemma to be in!

Notsoeasy24 · 22/12/2024 16:39

Hi thanks for replies. @DibbleDooDah @WhineyVaginey
I have been told it is very pushy and that there can be a lot of bullying that isn't dealt with

I sort of can't believe it. But I have been warned off it by a lot of people.
My daughter got it without any tutoring, but is not a loud / overly confident character, and I don't want her to get pushed aside.
People say she will be nurtured more at EHS.
At the same time it is like no12 best ranked school so don't want to just turn down the opportunity
